We walked all the way to the foot of the mountain, and a crystal-clear river came into view. I said in delight, “Why didn’t you tell me we were coming here earlier? I would have brought my easel.” “It’s not like you won’t have another chance to come.” I curled my lips at her and stopped talking. “Wait on the bank.” As she spoke, she began rolling up her pant legs, preparing to go into the water. Don’t fall.” The moment she finished speaking, my foot slipped, and I fell straight into the river with a splash. Lena reacted quickly and pulled me up, but I still inevitably choked on several mouthfuls of water. I collapsed onto the bank and started coughing violently. My heart was panicking, and my legs felt a little weak. I heard a “tsk” by my ear. Lena crouched down in front of me. “Get on.” I froze for a moment. “You can’t carry me. I weigh over a hundred pounds, and you look even thinner than me…” “Stop talking nonsense.” I paused, then climbed onto her back. Lena supported me with one hand and carried the fish basket with the other, yet she still walked very steadily. Lena was silent the whole way, while I chattered nonstop the entire time. When my questions annoyed her, Lena gave a perfunctory “Mm.” We made it home safely, and Lena took out a blanket. “Wrap yourself up. I’ll boil water for you.” “I can just use warm water…” Before I could finish speaking, I sneezed. Lena’s face darkened, and she turned, left the room, and went to the kitchen. After a while, she carried a bucket of hot water to the bathroom and casually knocked on the glass. The blanket was too warm, and I was still drowsy.
