My wife was having an affair with her mentor

Once again discovering my wife Emily Wilson’s intimate conversations with her advisor, I went to her school to confront them. Her father said I was worthless, and her brother said I deserved it. I wanted a divorce, but Emily threatened me with our son. For our son’s sake, I chose to endure. I endured for a lifetime. Emily, whom I served my entire life, eventually became a professor and lived happily ever after. Meanwhile, I worked hard all my life only to be despised by my son, dying alone and sick in a rented apartment. I’ve returned to the day I asked for a divorce. ***** After a flash of white light, I opened my eyes again. Emily was ordering me around with contempt, not at all like the educated woman she claimed to be. She said, “You worthless man, what are you trying to do? I’m my advisor’s favorite student. We’re discussing academics, and here you are throwing a tantrum? You’re incompetent and paranoid. Even if I were having an affair, it would be because you drove me to it!” Emily spoke about cheating as if it were perfectly justified, showing no remorse or guilt, making it seem like I was the one who had done something wrong. Emily’s brother, Noah Wilson, said dismissively, “Then divorce Emily. She’s a PhD, about to become a university professor. You’re just a taxi driver. You’re lucky Emily married you. How dare you ruin Emily’s reputation? I’m going to teach you a lesson today.” With that, he tried to kick me. I quickly dodged, but still crashed into a garbage can. Foul-smelling trash covered my entire body. Feeling the slippery floor beneath me, I was filled with grief and anger. I stood up despite the pain and locked eyes with Emily. Her gaze was filled with undisguised disgust. I looked at her and said coldly, “Let’s get a divorce.” Emily calmly replied, “Fine by me. I’ve wanted a divorce for a long time.” I said, “Good. Tomorrow we’ll go to a law firm to draft the divorce agreement.” Emily looked at me confidently and said, “The money and Ethan are mine. You’re uneducated. He can’t live with you.” It was happening again. The first time I discovered her affair, I asked for a divorce. She knew our son Ethan Turner was my weakness. My parents wouldn’t allow me to give up Ethan. Emily’s father, Yohan Wilson, was about to say something, but Noah stopped him. They all knew I would endure anything for Ethan. But after living through one lifetime, I had seen through their true nature, including Ethan’s. In this life, I would never compromise myself for anyone again. Just like before, I left without saying another word. Before closing the door, I heard Emily mockingly say, “See? This coward won’t divorce me!” I smirked coldly, not caring about her words, and immediately started packing when I got home. Not long after we got married, I had been living in the basement. Emily complained that I woke up too early and wouldn’t let me go upstairs. To earn more money and to let her rest well, I didn’t object and moved to the basement. The basement had only one small window, and it was dark even with the lights on. It was very damp. I developed rheumatism at a young age. Meanwhile, Emily enjoyed the master bedroom upstairs and even moved her entire family in. Thinking about all this, I could only pity my former self. I no longer wanted to live in the basement.

I was carrying my small suitcase upstairs when no one was home yet. Emily was probably still at the university, dating her advisor under the pretense of research. Yohan and Noah were likely gambling somewhere. This apartment was bought for me by my parents. They spent their life savings to buy me this apartment, yet I was living in poverty. The apartment wasn’t very spacious, with only two bedrooms. Emily and Ethan occupied the master bedroom, while Yohan and Noah stayed in the second bedroom. I cleared out Yohan and Noah’s belongings from the second bedroom and piled them in the living room. Ethan came home and said with disdain, “Why aren’t you out driving to make money at this hour? What are you doing at home?” I stared at Ethan, who had abandoned me in a rental apartment without support in my previous life, and didn’t answer. Uncomfortable with my staring, Ethan angrily shouted at me, “No wonder your grandfather keeps telling you to get divorced. My mom deserves better.” Then he went into the master bedroom. Through the crack in the door, I could see Emily’s various cosmetics, handbags, and jewelry in the room. All those were bought with my money. I had the receipts to prove it. She earned more than twice my salary from her research project at the university, yet she never spent a penny on our household. I clenched my fists and smirked coldly. Soon after, footsteps sounded at the door. Yohan and Noah must have won some money; I could hear their laughter before they even opened the door. When they entered and saw their belongings piled in the living room and me sitting on the sofa, they immediately became angry. “Mark, what’s wrong with you? Why did you move our stuff out here?” Noah yelled at me. I replied coldly, “I said I’m divorcing Emily. This apartment is mine. You all need to move out.” I ignored him and continued moving things from the second bedroom. Seeing my unusual behavior, Noah stopped yelling at me. Yohan called Emily, saying loudly, “Emily, come home right away!” His voice was intentionally loud for me to hear. Seeing his childish behavior, I laughed sarcastically without arguing back. They watched with anticipation, not stopping me as I continued moving their things. Yohan and Noah were furious but helpless as they watched their clothes being thrown on the floor. Soon the second bedroom was completely cleared out. I had filled half the living room with their belongings. Then I pushed open the door to the master bedroom, ignored the astonished Ethan, and lay directly on the bed. “So comfortable!” I couldn’t help but exclaim. In my previous life, I never got to sleep in such a comfortable bed until I died. Being too exhausted, I quickly fell asleep.

I don’t know how long I slept before I heard Noah’s voice outside the door. He said, “Emily, look at all this stuff. He’s completely lost it! As soon as he got home, he moved all our things out. Does he not want me and Dad living here? Is he trying to kick us out?” It must be Emily who had returned. I ignored them and continued sleeping. “Who said you could sleep here? Get up now!” Emily entered the bedroom. I roared angrily, “Why should I? This is my apartment, and I’ll sleep wherever I want!” She snapped, “This bed is too expensive for a driver like you.” I said, “No matter how expensive this bed is, I paid for it with my own money.” My eyes glanced at the bags and cosmetics in the room. Emily followed my gaze and looked inside. She said nervously, “So you moved my dad’s things out of the bedroom because you want them to leave? Mark, what did my father do to offend you that you want to kick them out?” I said, “I have every right to ask them to leave. If they don’t want to go, they need to pay for their Christmas accommodation and food!” Seeing my firm attitude, Emily angrily slapped me across the face. That’s when I noticed the red mark on her neck. I demanded, “What’s that?” I stared at her neck. Emily looked uncomfortable and brushed it off, “I accidentally burned myself during an experiment. I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that at the university today. I’m sorry. You can sleep here tonight. Ethan and I will sleep in the second bedroom. My dad and Noah will stay in the basement.” Before I could ask anything else, Emily turned and left. Her sudden change in attitude surprised me. I knew perfectly well that the red mark was evidence of her affair. The room fell silent again as I calmly thought about my next steps. Emily’s concession was just a temporary measure because I had caught her red-handed, and she wanted to prevent me from asking more questions. Knowing Noah and Yohan’s personalities, they would definitely resist moving to the basement. I was determined to get a divorce and wouldn’t give Emily any of my assets. “What? I’m supposed to sleep in the basement? No way. Emily, are you really letting that coward move back in?” Emily said, “Lower your voice!” While I was still deep in thought, Noah’s angry voice rang out again. I walked toward the door, wanting to hear more of their conversation. But when they heard my footsteps, they lowered their voices. I lit a cigarette. Before I could finish smoking, Ethan opened the door and said, “Dad, I’m hungry. Make me something to eat.” “I’m tired. Let your mom and the others cook. Just don’t bother me,” I replied impatiently. I thought cynically, “Now Ethan remembers me. I work so hard every day, and he still blames me. Yohan and Noah would never take care of him!” Ethan cried, “If you won’t cook for me, I don’t want you as my dad anymore. I want George to be my dad!” I wondered, “Could George be Emily’s advisor? When did they meet? Has Emily been secretly taking Ethan to see her advisor?” Confused, I was about to ask when Emily pulled Ethan away. She said, “Ethan, don’t talk nonsense. Your dad is too tired today, don’t bother him. Your grandfather will cook tonight.” Emily winked at Yohan. Yohan reluctantly shot me an angry look before heading to the kitchen. I coldly closed the door, locked it, and ignored them. But Emily’s unusual behavior still made me suspicious. I had planned to sleep through, but due to habit, I woke up at six in the morning. I was about to go drive when, as I was preparing to open the basement door, I heard Noah and Yohan talking. “Noah, is Emily really getting divorced? Where will we live after that? Who will we get money from?” “Dad, don’t worry. Emily said yesterday they won’t get divorced. Mark loved Ethan so much before, he won’t agree to a divorce. This is temporary. He was acting crazy yesterday, even yelling at Ethan!” “Keep your voice down.” “Emily secretly told me that in a few days, she’ll find a way to change the ownership of this apartment to Ethan’s name. Mark loves Ethan so much, he’ll definitely agree. Then he’ll have to take care of us for the rest of our lives.” So that’s what they were planning. Suppressing my anger, I left quietly. Just as I reached the front door, I ran into Emily who was about to go out. She asked with concern, “Where are you going so early?” I answered, “I went to buy cigarettes. If you have time, let’s go file for divorce. You all can stay here for now. Once you find a place, move out. I won’t charge you rent.” Emily’s face turned pale. “Mark, are you really going to push me this far?”
