• The Replacement

I spent three years studying abroad. When I finally returned home, I found my daughter’s bedroom occupied by a strange girl named Luna. Seeing my fury, the housekeeper stepped forward to kick Luna out, but my husband stopped her. “Honey, don’t,” he said smoothly. “Lily was being impossible. I had to send her to boarding school.” Lily? Impossible? My daughter was the sweetest, gentlest soul. She cried for half a day when our goldfish died. How could she possibly be “bad” enough to be shipped off to boarding school? I stared at the man in front of me, disbelief washing over me. “You sent your seven-year-old daughter to boarding school? And then you let some random kid squat in her room?” He grabbed my shoulders, trying to calm me down. “You don’t understand. Lily is rotten to the core. Luna came over for a playdate, and Lily tried to push her down the stairs.” “We had to teach that little monster a lesson. If we didn’t, she’d probably end up murdering us in our sleep!” I didn’t waste another breath on him. I was going to get my daughter. And then, I was going to kick every single one of these parasites out of my house. This spineless man lived off my money, my inheritance, and my hard work. Did he really think he was the master of this house? 1 When I walked through the front door, Lily didn’t run into my arms like she used to. The house was dead silent. Even my husband, Julian, was nowhere to be found. I figured since I came home early, maybe Julian took Lily out for ice cream. I carried the custom cake I bought—Lily’s favorite—up to her bedroom. I pushed the door open. The room looked even more lavish than when I left a year ago. More toys, new decorations. At least Julian seemed to be taking care of her. I set the cake on the desk and noticed a small lump under the duvet. Lily was sleeping. My heart melted instantly. I sat on the edge of the bed, moving as quietly as possible, and leaned over to see the little face I had missed every single day for a year. But when I pulled back the covers, it wasn’t Lily. My brain short-circuited. I ripped the duvet off completely. The girl was wearing Lily’s pajamas. Sleeping in Lily’s bed. In Lily’s room. The sudden movement woke her up. She rubbed her eyes and glared at me. I forced down the panic rising in my throat and tried to be gentle. I didn’t want to scare a child. “Sweetie, why are you sleeping in Lily’s room? Where is she?” The girl blinked her sleepy eyes open, then smirked with an arrogance that looked bizarre on a child’s face. “My daddy said Lily doesn’t deserve to sleep here anymore. This room belongs to me now! I’m Luna!” “Who are you? Get out of my daddy’s house before I tell him to throw you out!” Her words hit me like a machine gun. Daddy’s house? The bad feeling in my gut turned into a scream. I grabbed her wrist. “Where is Lily?!” She raised her hand to hit me, but then her eyes darted behind me, and her expression instantly shifted to pure terror. “Auntie, please! I really don’t know where Lily is!” Before I could process the sudden change, a strong hand yanked me backward. I lost my balance and slammed into the wall. Julian rushed past me, scooping the girl into his arms, his face full of anguish. “It’s okay, Luna. Daddy’s here. Don’t be scared.” A woman followed him in, looking fragile and teary-eyed. “Mrs. Vance, I know you don’t like us, but how could you treat a child like that?” I hadn’t even asked why these strangers were in my house, and they were already gaslighting me? I ignored the woman and lunged at Julian, grabbing him by the collar. “Where is my daughter?” The righteous anger in Julian’s eyes flickered, replaced by guilt. “She… I sent her to boarding school.” “Boarding school? You sent a seven-year-old to boarding school?!” My grip tightened. “Which one? Tell me exactly where she is!” Julian’s face turned red as he struggled to breathe, pounding on my hand. I threw him to the floor. The woman immediately threw herself over him, weeping. “Mrs. Vance, please don’t blame Julian! It’s my fault. I brought Luna over to play, and we upset Lily.” Julian caught his breath and immediately shielded the woman. “Lily is a bad seed! Luna was just visiting, and Lily tried to push her down the stairs!” “A vicious brat like that needs to learn a lesson. St. Jude’s Academy will straighten her out!” St. Jude’s. The “reform school” that was all over the news last month for abusing students. He was insane. I didn’t bother arguing with this trash couple. I grabbed my car keys and sprinted out the door. They better pray Lily is okay. If she has a single scratch on her, I will make them pay a hundred times over. 2 I ran ten red lights. I drove like a maniac and made it to the gates of St. Jude’s in record time. I stormed past security and kicked open the classroom door. The scene inside felt like a hand crushing my windpipe. A massive, hulking man was kicking a small figure curled up on the floor. It was Lily. She was sobbing, gasping for air. “Instructor Stone, I’m sorry! I won’t do it again! I’ll be good, I promise!” “Mommy, help me! Mommy, I miss you!” Every word she screamed was a dagger in my heart. Adrenaline exploded in my veins. I charged into the room and tackled the instructor, slamming him to the ground. Lily gasped. “Mommy! You came!” I pulled my daughter into my arms, shaking with the effort not to kill the man on the floor. “Mommy’s here, baby. I’m sorry I’m late. Mommy’s so sorry.” The instructor tried to get up, but my bodyguards, who had finally caught up, pinned him down. “Do you know who you just kicked? Do you have a death wish? Do you know who my sister is?!” he shouted. To protect Lily’s ears, I ordered my guards coldly: “He’s too loud. Shut him up.” “Check the surveillance tapes. For every time he hit a child, hit him back ten times. Don’t miss a single count.” Surrounded by my security team, I carried Lily to the car, holding her so tight my arms ached. Maybe she was exhausted from crying, or maybe she finally felt safe, but she fell asleep in my arms almost instantly. Holding her, I instructed my assistant to investigate the woman and her daughter. I wanted to know everything that happened while I was gone. When we got home, I carried Lily inside gently. The door opened to a nightmare. Julian, the woman, and the girl were gathered around the dining table, cutting the custom cake I bought for Lily. Luna was clapping her hands. “Yay! Mommy and Daddy cutting the cake together!” The woman, acting shy, whispered, “Luna, don’t say that. Mrs. Vance will get angry. Don’t make trouble for your daddy.” Julian’s frown disappeared as he looked at her. “Sarah, you’re always so considerate. If only Lily had half your manners.” Sarah smiled, hiding the triumph in her eyes. “Luna’s fracture from when Lily pushed her healed in a month. It’s fine.” “Don’t fight with Mrs. Vance over us. I don’t want you to be in a difficult position.” Hearing Lily’s name, Julian’s face twisted with anger. “Lily was ruined by her mother! She was a brat before, snatching things from Luna in public. Now that her mom is back to back her up, she’ll be impossible!” “She’s only been at St. Jude’s for two months. I bet she’s still a bad seed!” “If she bullies Luna again, I’ll send her back until she learns her place!” Watching him speak with such venom about his own child… I remembered before I left for my studies, I wanted to take Lily with me. Julian stopped me. He said it would be hard to study with a child. He joked that with Lily at home, he wouldn’t worry about me running off. He swore he would take good care of her. Before I left, Lily was a happy, chubby, confident little girl. Now she was covered in bruises, begging in her sleep for the instructor not to hit her. I suddenly realized something. He forgot he was just a trophy husband. He forgot that in the Vance family, Lily’s life was worth ten thousand of his. I laughed out loud. A cold, sharp sound. “Wow. ‘Daddy’ rolls right off the tongue, doesn’t it?” “Since when did Julian Vance have another daughter?” Hearing my voice, Sarah and Luna immediately cowered behind Julian. Julian spread his arms protectively in front of them. I sneered and carried Lily upstairs, tucking her into her own bed. Julian followed me, whispering angrily. “That room belongs to Luna now. If you put Lily there, where is Luna supposed to sleep?” I turned slowly to face him. “Are you confused? Since when do I not make the decisions in my own house?” 3 Julian’s eyes darted nervously, but he kept his voice low and insistent. “This isn’t about whose house it is. You need to send Lily back to St. Jude’s.” “Didn’t you see how scared Luna was of her? Lily isn’t the sweet girl you remember!” I shot back, icy cold. “Julian, do you even remember which one of them is your actual daughter?” Just then, Sarah and Luna appeared in the doorway. Sarah saw us arguing and gave Luna a subtle nudge. Luna immediately ran forward and hugged Julian’s leg, looking up with big, teary eyes. “Daddy, don’t fight with Mrs. Vance because of me. It’s okay.” “As long as Lily is here, I’ll just disappear. I won’t come out of my room.” Julian’s wavering resolve hardened instantly. “Sarah Vance, send Lily back now. Don’t make me say it again.” Sarah pretended to try and calm things down. She walked up to me, and in a voice only I could hear, she whispered: “Ms. Vance, when you’re old and washed up, you should make way for someone new.” “Did you really think a child could keep a man like Julian tied down forever?” I froze, staring into her smug eyes. She didn’t know. She didn’t know I was the heiress. I was the Vance. Julian just took my last name. Before I could speak, the family doctor arrived. Looking at Sarah’s arrogant face, I suddenly felt like putting on a show. I asked the doctor to move Lily to the guest room. After all, things were about to get messy. I didn’t want to scare her. Looking at the whip marks on Lily’s arm, I swallowed my tears. Just wait, baby. I’m going to make these two kneel and beg for your forgiveness. Once Lily was settled, I walked back into her bedroom. Julian and Sarah were comforting Luna, acting like she was the victim of some great tragedy. I walked straight into the room and started smashing things. That lamp? Not Lily’s. Smash. Green pencil case? Not Lily’s. Smash. Spotted dog statue? Not Lily’s. Smash. … They were stunned for the first item. By the second item, they realized what was happening and tried to stop me. But I was moving too fast, throwing things too hard. They couldn’t get close. Julian stood there, screaming. “Crazy! You’ve gone crazy!” Luna wailed on the bed, heartbroken over her stuff. “The bad lady is breaking my things! She’s a crazy witch!” Sarah was scared, but mostly she looked thrilled that I was acting like a lunatic. It meant her takeover was imminent. She stepped in front of Julian and Luna, acting the martyr. “Mrs. Vance, if you’re angry, hit me! Don’t hurt Julian!” I had just finished clearing the desk. I smiled at her. “Great idea! I was waiting for you to say that!” Slap! Slap! I backhanded her twice across the face. Hard. My hand went numb. Sarah’s delicate face swelled instantly. She stared at me in shock. She didn’t think I’d actually do it. Her daughter reacted fast, charging at me to bite. I was faster. I grabbed her arm and pinned her. “Luna, sweetie, did you think you were immune?” I lifted her wrist. “This crystal bracelet? I spent twenty grand customizing this for Lily. Take it off.” Luna froze, then started crying, clutching the bracelet. “Daddy gave this to me! It’s mine! You old hag!” “Mommy was right, you’re not good enough for Daddy! You should die!” Julian looked stunned. Sarah rushed over to hug Luna. “Ms. Vance, you’re scaring her! She doesn’t know what she’s saying!” I laughed and waved my hand. My security team stepped out from the hallway. “Scaring her? Honey, I haven’t even started.” 4 Seeing the dozen bodyguards behind me, Sarah’s mask of gentleness cracked. I signaled the guards. They moved forward to restrain Sarah and Luna. Julian, furious, stepped in front of them. “Sarah! Enough! When will you stop this madness?!” “You smashed the room! You tore their clothes! What do you want?!” “If you touch them, I will divorce you right now!” The chaotic room went silent. Sarah hid behind Julian, smirking at me triumphantly. The bodyguards hesitated, looking at me for orders. Just then, my assistant whispered in my ear. She had the investigation results. Listening to the report, I laughed out loud. This leech had lived off me for so long he actually thought he was the king. “Bring those two in.” My assistant nodded and left. I looked at Julian’s twisted face and spoke coldly. “Don’t rush, Julian. Your surprise is coming.” I signaled the guards again. Before Sarah and Luna could hide their smirks, the guards slammed them to the floor. They stripped Luna of everything that belonged to Lily. The $20,000 bracelet. The $5,000 hair clip. The $30,000 gold locket. Sarah tried to maintain her dignity, looking at Julian with tear-filled eyes. Luna, terrified, screamed for help. “Daddy! Daddy save me!” “Kick these people out! Especially this smelly woman!” I walked up to Luna and smiled. “Kid, this house is mine. If anyone’s getting out, it’s the three of you.” “Now, go to the guest room, kneel by Lily’s bed, and apologize!” Sarah looked blank for a second. “The house is…” Before she could finish, a booming voice came from the hallway. “Sarah Vance! Have you lost your mind?!” I turned around. It was my older brother, the current head of the Vance family. He stormed in with his own team of bodyguards, looking like he wanted to execute me on the spot. I scoffed. “Do you know what they did to Lily?!” Julian suddenly grew a spine. He cut in. “What did we do to Lily?! She was spoiled rotten! I sent her to boarding school to learn some discipline! Is that a crime?” “Brother, you’ve been gone a long time. You don’t know how bad Lily has become! Luna came to visit, and Lily stole the gift I gave Luna! She claimed it was hers!” “Last time, if I hadn’t caught her, she would have pushed Sarah into traffic!” “She’s seven and already this manipulative. If we don’t correct her…” I used every ounce of strength in my body and slapped Julian across the face. “Julian! How dare you talk about your own daughter like that!” He stumbled, nearly falling. I raised my hand to hit him again, but my brother spoke, his voice ice cold. “Sarah Vance. Did our parents teach you to beat people in public?” “If the Vance family ends up in the tabloids tomorrow for bullying, can you take responsibility?” Sarah, kneeling on the floor, saw her chance. She started wailing. “Mrs. Vance, you are too much!” “Julian works so hard to hold up the Vance Corporation. And you? You spent the family’s money partying abroad for three years!” “He has to run the company and take care of the daughter. Do you know how much my heart breaks seeing him so tired?” “And now you hit him in front of his brother?!” “You are truly…” My brother looked confused. He interrupted Sarah’s passionate speech. “Excuse me, miss. I think you’re confused.” “Sarah Vance is my sister. Julian here… he’s just the man who married into our family.” Sarah’s jaw dropped. “Married… into…?” “Isn’t Julian the son of the Vance family?” My brother, previously furious at me, looked at Sarah with an amused expression. He looked between Sarah, Luna, and Julian. Then he smiled, understanding dawning on him. “Miss, the Vance family has only one son. Me.” “As for the man beside you… he’s a trophy husband.” Sarah looked at Julian in horror, forcing a smile. “Julian… is that true?” Julian didn’t answer. He glared at me with hatred. My brother laughed. “Julian, my friend. You’ve lived the good life too long. Don’t forget where your bread is buttered.”

  • Taming the Beast

The System assigned me a mission: Redeem the psychotic villain. So, I brought him straight to my house. “My kid brother is in sixth grade and, let’s just say, going through a phase. Your job is to watch him. If he acts up, you have permission to use force.” “Three hundred bucks a day. Room and board included.” The future villain, currently just a street thug named Jax, didn’t hesitate. He followed me home. But not even twenty-four hours later, he was trying to renegotiate. “You didn’t tell me the kid was like that!” “I need a raise!” I nodded furiously, not daring to argue. Because my little demon brother? He’s in sixth grade, stands 6’3″, and weighs 260 pounds. Oh, and he’s trained in MMA, boxing, and wushu… 1 The System told me I had to save Jax. Apparently, a tragic backstory would eventually turn him into a heartless, society-destroying supervillain. I was busy. I had a life. I wasn’t interested. So, I said no. But then the System dropped some intel: “Jax is a ruthless psycho. He’s domineering, brutal, cunning, and vindictive.” “He’s bad news now. Imagine what he’ll be like when he fully snaps…” Ruthless? Brutal? Cunning? Vindictive? My ears perked up. Is he really that tough? Then dealing with an elementary schooler should be a piece of cake for him, right? Suddenly, saving a villain sounded like a fantastic idea. I needed—desperately needed—a ruthless psycho to handle the monster living in my house. My brother, Leo. At three, he set the living room on fire. At four, he dismantled the structural integrity of the house. At five, he tried to base jump off the roof. At six, he threw firecrackers into a funeral procession… If he goes a day without a beating, he gets itchy. If you take your eyes off him for two seconds, he causes a catastrophe. Last year, at ten years old, he blew up a manhole cover and totaled seven parked cars… Now he’s in sixth grade, and the disasters are scaling up. My amateur attempts at discipline were failing. I couldn’t stop him from terrorizing the neighborhood. I needed a professional. I needed heavy artillery. I needed someone to beat the humanity back into him. Since Jax was a certified psycho, he seemed like the perfect candidate to humble a rebellious pre-teen. So, without hesitation, I accepted the mission: Save the Tragic Villain. The System then filled me in on the tragedy. Jax’s sister, Lily, was going to be tricked by their mother into being sold to her stepfather’s creditors, shipped off to Southeast Asia, and… well, it ends badly. Lily commits suicide. Jax snaps. He kills his stepfather, hacks up his mother, flees the country, changes his name, and returns as a serial killer hunting down everyone who hurt his sister. Hearing this, my first move was to find Jax and immediately fund Lily’s transfer to an elite, closed-campus boarding school. I made sure the scumbag parents couldn’t get within a mile of her. Lily was safe. Jax was suspicious. He cornered me, demanding to know my angle. I burst into tears before I could even speak. “I need you to beat someone up for me!” “Like, beat them within an inch of their life, but don’t actually kill them!” I listed Leo’s crimes through my sobs, recounting a decade of chaos. Jax probably just pitied me. When I mentioned $300 a day plus room and board, he nodded immediately. “Done. Beating people is my specialty. I can do ‘half-dead’.” 2 It was pick-up time at the elementary school. The streets were gridlocked. Jax and I stood in the waiting zone. He watched the sea of yellow school hats, looking bored. Seeing him zoning out, I elbowed him. I needed to prepare him. “Have you ever seen Attack on Titan?” Jax looked at me, confused. Suddenly, the ground began to tremble. Thump! Thump! Thump! A deafening, milky voice pierced the air. “Sis! Sis! Siiiis!” The high-pitched screech was like a sonic weapon. I plastered a stiff smile on my face. Jax looked up in shock. Among the swarm of tiny children, a 6’3″ behemoth rose like a skyscraper. He was wearing a yellow hat and a red scarf, thundering toward me. Thump! Thump! Thump! “SIIIIIS!!!!!” I took a deep breath, bracing myself. I shouted a warning to Jax. “Squat! Center of gravity forward!” But Jax froze. He stared at the incoming missile, eyes bulging. “That’s your brother?” “Primary school?” Yes. That’s my brother. Primary school. What’s with the look? Who says a sixth grader can’t be 6’3″ and 260 pounds? Did he eat your rice? Drink your milk? No. I didn’t have time to explain because I was already embedded deep into my brother’s ample gut, being carried ten yards down the sidewalk. Thankfully, Jax snapped out of it and peeled me off him. Otherwise, I would have been subjected to the “Human Centrifuge” spin cycle again. Once I was safely on the ground, I introduced them. “This is Leo. My biological brother.” Then I turned to Leo, putting on my scariest face. “This is Jax. He’s here to handle you!” Leo ignored me completely. He grinned at Jax, eyes sparkling with mischief. They stared at each other in silence. Jax: Stone-faced. Leo: Making faces. I stepped back and sized them up. They were about the same height. But Leo was built like a tank. Jax… well… he looked like a twig. “Ahem! Leo! Jax is in charge now! You have to listen to Big Brother Jax!” “He’s super mean. If you don’t listen, he will hit you!” Leo didn’t look scared. He looked thrilled. “Awesome! I like this guy!” “He looks durable!” Excuse me? Without warning, Leo launched himself vertically, executing a body slam directly onto Jax! Me: “Ah!” Passersby: “Ah!” Jax: “Oof…” It’s over. It’s all over. Jax is going to be crushed on day one. My herniated disc came from exactly this move! I closed my eyes in despair. Can even a villain withstand the Demon Child? But then… Jax stumbled back two steps, planted his feet, and caught him! His face turned beet red, veins popping on his arms. But he didn’t drop him. He even hefted Leo up a bit when he started to slide. Terrifying strength! In that moment, I thanked the System. Thank you for this mission. Thank you for letting the villain save me! 3 Our parents died in a car crash when Leo was in first grade. I was still in college, unable to care for him, so Leo went to live with our grandparents. They spoiled him rotten. Grief mixed with generational doting meant Leo got whatever he wanted. Naturally, he turned into a monster. With grandparents as his shield, he terrorized the household. With his size advantage, he became the school bully. In one semester, we were called to the principal’s office countless times. He was nearly expelled. If I hadn’t fought my grandparents and taken him back, Leo would be in juvie by now. I’m the only one who can somewhat control him. But they say you have to discipline them young. By third grade, I physically couldn’t beat him anymore. In fourth grade, he was 5’11”. Fifth grade, 6’1″. Now? 6’3″. The doctor says he’s still growing. I stopped growing at 5’3″. The envy burns. Now, he’s more rebellious than ever. My scolding does nothing. He hangs out with dropouts and street punks. They use him as a tank because he’s a minor and can’t be easily prosecuted. I tried to stop it, but I can’t physically restrain him, and emotionally, he uses our grandparents against me. “I’ll kill myself! I’ll starve! I’ll jump!” Modern kids and their threats. I considered sending him to a boot camp, but I was afraid it would ruin him. Thank god the System sent me a psycho. 4 Leo was salty about failing to crush Jax. On the way home, he kept testing him. Tripping attempts. Surprise tackles. Rear naked chokes. Jax neutralized them all effortlessly. Since our parents died, to protect Leo from bullies, I signed him up for everything: MMA, boxing, Wushu, Taekwondo… The coaches called him a prodigy. They said no normal person could handle him. They quit after two months because they ran out of things to teach him. Really, they were just terrified. Watching the two of them spar in the living room—it was a blur of motion. I thanked the System again. Villain Jax is amazing! Truly amazing! “I am the Golden Leg! He is the Iron Head!” Ya-ho! Ya-ho! Seeing Leo getting reckless, I slumped on the sofa and gave Jax a look: Go ahead. I won’t intervene. The living room erupted. “Ah! Not the face! I have Iron Head technique! Hah! Take my Golden Leg!” Jax, cold and ruthless: “Iron Head, huh? Golden Leg, huh?” Being physically dominated for the first time, Leo realized Jax was the real deal. He tried to pull out his phone to call Grandma for backup. I signaled Jax. He understood instantly. The battle for the phone began. It was chaos. Furniture flew. Leo lunged like a hungry tiger. “Avalanche! Mountain Press!” Jax dodged, spun, and countered with a Black Tiger Heart Strike. “Hmph. Child’s play.” Leo flailed his arms, attempting the Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms. Jax didn’t flinch. He used a teleportation step, appeared behind Leo, and delivered a thunderous Buddha’s Palm strike directly to Leo’s ample buttocks. Jax’s internal energy was profound. Leo’s sixty-pound ass cheeks rippled in the air. Silence. Then, a roar that shook the foundations. “JAX! I’m gonna kill you!” “Who are you talking to? Say that again?” “I’m your daddy!” Smack! Smack! Smack! Jax snatched the phone and tossed it to me. Then he grabbed Leo by the neck and went to town on his backside. The sound was rhythmic. Pa-pa-pa. Leo, a 260-pound bull, twisted and turned but couldn’t escape. I bit my lip to keep from laughing. I’d wanted to confiscate that phone for ages. He was addicted to games and weird, greasy short videos. But I couldn’t take it by force. Now Jax was here, solving my biggest headache. Phone gone, Leo’s eyes turned red. He pointed at me. “Give it back! Grandpa bought that for me! Who are you to take it?” My heart skipped a beat. I closed my eyes. Biological brother. Biological brother… Then I kicked him in the face. “Brat! You want to die? I’ll tear you apart!” I threw my phone and tackled him. Leo, as always, only defended, letting me hit him. But his mouth was still running. “Tyrant! Dictator! Why can you have a phone and I can’t? Unfair! I demand rights!” “You bully me! You hired a hitman! I’m telling Grandma!” “Unless you give it back!” I dragged him by the ear. He dragged me toward the door. “Let go! I’m running away! Better to die on the streets than live without a phone! You heartless…” He stopped. Jax was standing in the doorway, arms crossed, face blank. “Go ahead. Try to leave.”

  • System Error: The Unlovable Wife

Chapter 1 “Honestly, you’re kind of ugly,” my husband of seven years said, staring at my tear-stained face. “And when you cry, you look even worse.” With that, he walked out and slept in his study again. But his wife—the one who cried too much—had already swallowed a bottle of Paraquat and exited this world. I am the new Strategy AI sent to take her place. “System,” I asked, “how many points did the last host leave me?” [One.] “Fine,” I said. “Put it all into physical attributes.” That night, transformed into a 6’2″ powerhouse, I walked into the study. And absolutely wrecked my husband. The next morning, I sat on the edge of the mahogany desk, swinging my legs and pretending to smoke a cigarette. Smoking is bad for you, and considering this body just ingested poison yesterday, I decided to just chew on the filter. “Ugh…” A groan came from under the desk. Liam woke up. His usually cold, sculptured face was a mask of confusion. His silk robe was hanging off one shoulder, revealing a neck and chest covered in bruises and bite marks. His dark hair was plastered to his forehead with sweat. He looked like a beautiful, broken mess. Liam blinked, then winced as the soreness hit him. Especially there. He scrambled back like he’d been bitten by a snake, face red with rage, pointing a shaking finger at me. “Gwen! Have you lost your mind?! That was… that was marital r*pe! And how the hell did you… have… that?!” At the same time, the System, which had been blocked all night, started screaming in my head. [AHHHHH! You stupid AI! What did you do?!] [The Male Lead’s affection score just crashed through the floor! It’s almost at -100!] [Do you realize we’re in Hell Mode now?!] Ignoring the noise, I looked back at Liam with a doting smile. “Why so loud? You seemed to enjoy it last night.” Liam froze. Then he snapped. He flipped the heavy desk and grabbed an antique vase, hurling it at me. “Gwen! I’m going to kill you! I’ll kill you!!” Thanks to the National Radio Calisthenics Guide in my database, I hopped off the desk and dodged the vase with a perfect chest expansion move. I closed the distance in two steps, grabbed both his wrists with one hand, and pinned them above his head. With my other hand, I gripped his jaw, forcing him to look at me. “Stop it. Be good.” I said flatly, “I’m done with your hard-to-get games. I like obedient men.” [Shut up, you defective AI! What the hell are you saying?!] [Yes, my database contains thousands of “Domineering CEO” novels.] [Who asked you that?! In this world, Liam is the CEO!] [Character overlap? No problem. He can yield to me.] […] While I argued with the System, Liam stared at me, pupils shrinking to pinpoints. He shoved me away violently and started dry heaving. “Urgh! Get out… divorce… you psycho…” I shrugged. “Talk to me when you’ve calmed down, my dear husband.” Hands in my pockets, I walked out of the study, stopping to pet Oreo, our British Shorthair, on the way. Downstairs in the dining room, only one person was seated at the long table. My mother-in-law, Evelyn. She was wearing silk, dripping in Cartier, drinking Moutai, and eating crawfish for breakfast. Her phone was on speaker, broadcasting a conversation with other rich wives. “I know, right? Gwen’s been here seven years and her stomach is still flat. She’s wasting my Liam’s time. I think there’s something wrong with her.” The voice on the phone agreed, “Exactly. If a woman can’t keep her man interested, what use is she? It’s a lack of charm.” “If only she had charm! Liam comes home late every night, and even when he’s here, he sleeps in the study. If she weren’t slightly more obedient than that fox Clara, I would’ve made him divorce her ages ago!” [Oh my god, I’m so mad.] [That old hag sees you standing there! She’s saying it loud on purpose!] [Get her, AI! Use the most vicious insults in your database!] [If you slap her down, the audience will give you 10 points!] The System was howling for blood. I nodded slightly. [Understood.] I walked to the table, my temporarily male body casting a large shadow. Evelyn’s fake smile froze. She glanced at me sideways. “What? See your elders and don’t even say hello? Is this how you were raised?” I stared at her blankly, took the unlit cigarette from my mouth, dropped it on the floor, and crushed it with my pink slipper. Evelyn frowned. “What is that supposed to mean?” “There are minors present. No smoking.” Evelyn: ? System: [?] Evelyn’s frown deepened. “Gwen, what nonsense are you spouting this early? Are you still asleep?” I shook my head and looked around the luxurious villa. “I thought the Pearl of the Orient was in Shanghai. I didn’t know we had one here.” I bent down, took her hand with the jade ring, and pressed a gentlemanly kiss to her knuckles. “Good morning, my beautiful Pearl. May your day be as dazzling as you are.” Then I turned and walked to the foyer, leaving a petrified Evelyn behind. [????] [Defective AI, what kind of database did you download?!] After I left, Evelyn sat there in a daze. Her friend’s voice crackled from the phone. “Hello? Evelyn? What happened? Did I just hear a man’s voice?” Evelyn stared at her hand, then at the door. “I… I think my daughter-in-law just… grew a pair?” “Huh?” [Audience Satisfaction: +20] [Available Points: 20] Chapter 2 The moment I stepped outside, I shrank. Liam’s shirt, which had fit perfectly a second ago, now hung off me like a tent. I looked down at my wrists—thin, pale, veins visible under the skin. Weak. [System, the gender swap wore off already?] [Duh!] The System sounded exasperated. [You’re supposed to use points for beauty or talent! Who wastes points on a one-night gender swap?!] [But I earned 20 points.] The System choked. [That… that was just luck! The audience probably hasn’t seen anything this weird before. Next time it won’t work! They want angst! Romance! Stop messing around!] Angst… I nodded thoughtfully. [Understood.] [Wait, when you say ‘understood’, I get a bad feeling…] Before the System could finish, a sneering voice called out from the driveway. “Well, well. If it isn’t my sister-in-law. Strutting around in my brother’s shirt? Trying to advertise that you finally got laid?” I looked up. It was Lucas. Liam’s twin brother. My brother-in-law. They looked alike, but their vibes were polar opposites. If Liam was a glacier, Lucas was a heatwave. Dyed red hair, black studs, eyes that always seemed to be flirting or mocking. He walked over, eyeing me up and down. “Where are your ugly glasses today? They made you look dumb, but at least they hid those swollen eyes. Now that I can see them… yikes. Even uglier.” I stayed silent. Lucas took that as encouragement. “Honestly, I don’t get why my brother married you. You’re plain, boring, and embarrassing to take out. Just furniture gathering dust.” [System.] [Yeah?] [Put all 20 points into Grip Strength.] [Um… wait, you’re not going to—] “No wonder my brother still pines for Clara after seven years,” Lucas scoffed. “A dry, tasteless woman like you isn’t worth a single finger on Clara’s ha—ACK!” I didn’t let him finish. Smack! I slapped him so hard he stumbled sideways three steps. His brain rattled. He looked at me, stunned. “You…” He clutched his swelling cheek. “You hit me?!” I answered with a front kick to his stomach. Lucas folded like a lawn chair, dropping to his knees and gasping for air. “Ahh—you crazy bitch! Do you know who I am?!” I grabbed a handful of his red hair and smashed his face into my knee. “AHH! My nose! Gwen, you whore! I—AH!” He tried to fight back, but I grabbed his arm and flipped him over my shoulder. I sat on his chest, pinning his limbs, and started slapping him. Smack! Smack! Left and right. [System, is this enough angst?] [You idiot! Not this kind of angst!! This is a romance novel, not a Kung Fu movie! Stop it!!] [Audience Satisfaction: +35] [Available Points: 35] The System went silent. […Actually, never mind. Keep going. No rush.] Finally, Lucas stopped fighting. His handsome face was a palette of blues and purples. “Stop… stop hitting me… Gwen, I’m sorry…” He sobbed. “Please… it hurts… why are you so strong? Did you eat spinach?” I stopped. But the moment I let up, Lucas started squirming, yelling insults. “Just you wait! You violent psycho! I’m telling my brother! He’ll divorce you so fast your head will spin! You’ll leave with nothing!” I pinned him down again and said flatly, “I may be violent, but you are shallow and stupid. Disrespecting your sister-in-law with filth? The famous family education seems lacking.” Lucas sneered, blood on his teeth. “So what? I’m rich and hot. You? A dwarf with no tits trying to act like a wife. It’s pathetic.” I raised an eyebrow. “Oh? So you admit you hate me. Hate requires attention. I thought you didn’t care about me at all.” Lucas froze. His eyes darted away, then back, sharper than before. “Who cares about you? Don’t flatter yourself!” Then he laughed maliciously. He pointed a shaking finger at the corner of the courtyard wall. “See that? Security camera. Everything is recorded. I can call the cops right now for assault. You don’t want to go to jail right before my brother dumps you, do you?” I went silent. The System panicked. [Defective AI! I told you not to be reckless! Now you have a record! How can you romance the lead if you’re in jail?!] Lucas saw my silence as fear. “Heh. Scared now? Tell you what. Kneel down, beg me, and maybe I’ll let this slide for the sake of family.” I stood up and stepped aside. Lucas smirked, starting to sit up. Then I stomped on his chest with my pink slipper, slamming him back into the dirt. Thud! His head bounced off the ground. “Ow! F*ck! What are you doing?!” He screamed. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll—” “Call them,” I interrupted, looking down at him. “Call the police. And tell them…” “Tell them you installed a hidden camera in your sister-in-law’s bedroom.” Silence. Lucas stared up at me. The System went quiet. Slowly, Lucas turned a shade of red that eclipsed his bruises. “W-what are you talking about?! Are you delusional?! You’re sex-crazed!” “I found the evidence,” I said calmly. Lucas opened his mouth, but no sound came out. “Lucas, you say you don’t care about me. But you target me constantly. You spy on me illegally. Why?” I leaned down, staring into his eyes. “Because… you have a crush on me.” “You have a crush on your brother’s wife.” “That’s why you rushed over here this morning. You saw on the camera that I wasn’t in my room last night. You thought I slept with Liam. You were terrified we reconciled, so you ran over to check. Right?” Lucas sputtered for a long time before exploding in shame. “No! That’s your fantasy! You crazy woman! Why would I like someone like… like…” “Is that so?” I lifted my foot and stomped down hard. Lucas groaned in pain. “Then take the footage to the police. Let them see how your sister-in-law beat you into the ground…” My gaze drifted lower. “…And how you got hard from it.” I whispered the final verdict. “Pervert.” Lucas froze completely. The red drained from his face, leaving it grey. His eyes went blank. Then, unable to handle the shame, he covered his face with his hands. And started crying again. “Ugh…” This time, the sobbing was full of despair. I squatted next to him and watched him cry. When the sobbing turned to whimpers, I spoke softly. “Lucas, I actually don’t mind that you like me. I won’t tell anyone.” He lowered his hands, looking at me with red, swollen eyes. A tiny spark of hope lit up. “R-really? Gwen… you…” I smiled. “But I’m a married woman. A good woman. I won’t cheat.” “So… you can be my dog instead.” Chapter 3 The light in Lucas’s eyes blazed brighter. Not happiness—rage. He scrambled up as if electrified. “You’re sick! Who wants to be your dog?! Get away from me! Psycho!” He scrambled away on all fours, terrified I’d slap him again. I stood up slowly. [Look how happy he is.] System: […] System: [Sister, your definition of happy is… unique. But he’s definitely broken. You broke his brain.] The heavy oak front door opened. Liam walked out. The soundproofing was excellent; he only just heard the screaming. He was in a charcoal suit, hair perfect, face cold. No trace of the vomiting mess from earlier. I thought he came to defend his brother. But he walked right past me. Didn’t even glance my way. He opened the door of his black Ferrari. Cold war again? I shrugged. I turned to go inside and make some goji berry tea for this poisoned body. “Clara is back,” Liam said to the air. “I’m going to the airport to pick her up.” I stopped. “Oreo hasn’t been eating. Clara studied veterinary medicine abroad. She’s moving in as Oreo’s live-in pet therapist.” “Gwen, this is my last warning. Stop your crazy antics.” “Clara is different from you. She’s kind. She’s fragile. If you scare her…” He paused, emphasizing every word. “Even if you are Mrs. Song, I will personally commit you to a mental institution. I will tell everyone you are insane.” “Trust me. I have the power to make you spend the rest of your life staring at a white wall, regretting today.” He drove off. I stood there in silence. The System was frantic. [It’s over! The White Moonlight is back! The ultimate weapon!] [And the Male Lead hates your guts. He’s going to lock you up! We’re doomed!] [No. Not yet.] I went upstairs, changed into a windbreaker and cargo pants. I went to the garage, picked a silver motorcycle, tucked my hair into a helmet, and mounted up. Key in. Ignition. VROOM. [Loading Database…] [Fast and Furious 1-9, Need for Speed speedrun guides, Bumper Car Tactics…] [Driving Skill: Loaded.] He thinks he’s the only one who can pick someone up? So can I. Chapter 4 Neither of us picked her up. Liam waited at the airport for five hours. A torrential downpour started, hammering the glass roof. For a CEO like Liam, five hours was an eternity. He finally left, exhausted and disappointed. But I was still there. I have patience. [Stupid AI, what are you planning? Are… are you going to assassinate the White Moonlight?!] I ignored it. I saw Clara coming out. I walked up and took her suitcase. “Hi. I’m Gwen. Liam left, so I’m taking you home.” Clara looked up. Doe eyes, confused at first, then horrified. “Gwen… you… you’re Liam’s wife?” She looked me up and down with disgust. She snatched her bag back. “I don’t need your fake kindness!” She turned and walked to the taxi stand. [She doesn’t like me?] [Duh! You’re the wife, she’s the White Moonlight! You are natural enemies!] [Oh. Nemesis. A nemesis cannot become a wife.] […Please stop using the internet. Your database is corrupted.] I watched Clara get into a taxi and noted the license plate. I got on my bike. There was only one road home. The rain was heavy. I rode slowly. Clara must have seen me. She said something to the driver, and the taxi sped up to lose me. I kept my pace. [Idiot AI! Chase her! If she gets away, why did we come?] [Slippery road. Speeding is dangerous. Good kids don’t speed.] […] Then it happened. Maybe the driver panicked. Maybe Clara rushed him. The taxi skidded on a turn, spun out, and slammed into the guardrail. The front end crumpled. Chaos. People screamed, calling 911. The driver was unconscious. Clara was pinned in the back seat. Smoke started pouring from the hood. Fire or explosion imminent. The rescuers hesitated. “Door’s jammed! Too deformed!” “It’s gonna blow! Run!” I parked my bike and pushed through the crowd. “Excuse me.” [System. Convert the remaining 35 points to Grip Strength. And loan me 20 points on credit. I’ll pay back double.] [Loan? Impossible! That’s against the rules… Tsk!] [Just this once.] I grabbed the car door with both hands. Veins popped. SCREEECH. Sharp metal sliced my palms, blood mixing with rain. I didn’t stop. CRACK! I ripped the driver’s door off its hinges with my bare hands. The crowd went silent. “Get him out!” I shouted. They snapped out of it and dragged the driver to safety. I walked to the back door. More blood dripped from my hands. Through the cracked window, Clara stared at me. Her face was white as a sheet. Her eyes held shock, disbelief, relief… and confusion. Her mouth opened, tears rolling down her face. I tore the back door off. The crowd pulled Clara out. As soon as she was safe, she fainted. But right before her eyes closed, she was looking for me. I was already on my bike, heading to the hospital to stitch my hands. Passersby filmed the whole thing.

  • The Replacement Heart

Chapter 1 Ethan and I were together for seven years, from high school sweethearts to walking down the aisle. He proposed at our graduation ceremony, promising to treat me like the happiest princess in the world. And after we got married, he did. I had unlimited access to his bank accounts, the villa was in my name, and when my little brother needed a heart transplant, he paid the $500,000 surgery fee without blinking. Everything was perfect. Until she appeared. Lily. A scholarship student Ethan sponsored. She came from a remote mountain village and was frugal to the point of obsession. Ethan found her penny-pinching adorable. He even handed over our household finances to her. On the day of my brother’s surgery, Lily secretly swapped the matching donor heart for a pig heart. After the surgery failed and my brother died, she blinked her big, innocent eyes at me and said, “What’s the difference between a human heart and a pig heart, anyway? They both beat.” “$500,000 is way too expensive. I saved that money so Ethan could buy a new car. Isn’t that better?” I didn’t cry. I didn’t scream. I quietly handled my brother’s funeral. Then, I took my bodyguards and kidnapped Lily. She was terrified, screaming and struggling. “What are you doing?! Let me go! Ethan won’t let you get away with this!” I wore a black dress, my face pale as paper, my eyes cold as ice. Looking down at Lily, pinned to the ground, I spoke softly, my voice devoid of emotion but filled with a chilling resolve. “Break every bone in her body. One by one.” The bodyguards obeyed. The heavy thud of clubs hitting flesh mixed with Lily’s agonizing screams and the sickening crack of breaking bones echoed in the empty warehouse. I don’t know how long it went on. Suddenly, the warehouse door was kicked open. Ethan’s tall silhouette appeared in the doorway, backlit by the sun. Seeing the scene, his face went pale. “Stop! What the hell are you doing?!” The bodyguards froze. Ethan rushed in, his eyes immediately landing on the curled-up, bloodied figure of Lily on the floor. Pain and fury flashed in his eyes. He grabbed my wrist, squeezing so hard I thought he’d break it. “Sarah! I know you’re grieving for Sam!” Ethan’s voice shook with suppressed rage. “But Lily didn’t mean it! She grew up poor, she’s just too frugal! She saw the price tag and got confused! Her intentions were good! You have to understand her background, respect her lifestyle!” “Respect?” I laughed. It was the most ridiculous thing I’d ever heard. I looked at the man who once loved me more than life itself. Tears streamed down my face as I laughed. “Ethan, you’re talking to me about respect?” I yanked my hand away and pointed at Lily. My voice trembled with pure rage and grief. “Since she came into our house, we’ve eaten stale leftovers every day because she thinks fresh food is too expensive. I buy a jar of face cream with my own money, and she nags me for three days about waste. And now… she killed my only brother! You want me to respect her? Today, either I die, or she dies! There is no third option!” Ethan frowned, about to speak, when Lily let out a pained moan from the floor. “Ethan… it hurts… so much…” That single cry tilted Ethan’s heart completely to her side. He looked at me with disappointment and impatience. “Even if you’re angry, this isn’t how you vent! Guards! Lock my wife in the basement freezer! Let her cool off!” Pain ripped through my chest. I glared at him in disbelief. “Ethan! You wouldn’t dare!” Ethan sneered, his handsome face colder than I’d ever seen. “Watch me. Lily might not be a rich heiress like you, but she has me backing her now! You hurt her, you pay the price!” The guards moved to grab me. “Wait!” Lily suddenly gasped, weak but determined. Despite her pain, she looked worried. “Ethan, the freezer… uses too much electricity. We have to save energy.” Ethan looked at her helplessly, his tone softening. “Don’t worry, it won’t cost much.” “No!” Lily insisted, even managing a pouting tone. “You said you’d listen to me! Electricity costs money! Every penny counts!” Ethan looked at her pale face and sighed, giving in. “Fine. Whatever you say. How should we punish her then?” Lily furrowed her brow, pretending to think innocently. “Hmm… I saw an old tractor at the junkyard today that still works. Why don’t we tie Sarah behind the tractor and drag her? That doesn’t use electricity, and she can feel the pain of broken bones like I did. Two birds with one stone!” I snapped. I screamed, “Ethan! Don’t you dare! I’m Sarah! Your wife! We grew up together! You promised to protect me forever!” But Ethan just glanced at me coldly and ordered the guards, “Do as Lily says.” I was dragged out of the warehouse and tied to the back of a rusted tractor. The engine roared to life, deafeningly loud, and the machine lurched forward. The rough concrete instantly shredded my clothes and skin. Gravel embedded itself in my flesh, sending searing pain through my body. I was dragged, my body leaving a long trail of blood. I screamed his name. “Ethan! Ethan, look at me! Look at who I am!” But the man who once cherished me was carefully lifting Lily into his car, gently wiping her wounds, not sparing a single glance for his tortured wife. Chapter 2 Excruciating pain and humiliation blurred my consciousness. Before darkness took me completely, memories flooded back like a tidal wave. Ethan and I were true childhood sweethearts. Since we were kids, Ethan followed me around like a puppy, declaring to any boy who came near, “Sarah is mine!” Everyone said Ethan couldn’t live without me. On my twentieth birthday, under a rain of cherry blossoms, Ethan proposed. He said, “Sarah, I can’t wait anymore. I want to marry you and tie you to my side forever.” After marriage, he spoiled me even more. He’d drive across the city at midnight just because I mentioned craving pastries from a specific bakery. When I was sick, he’d drop everything to stay by my bedside. Every anniversary was a carefully planned surprise, ending with him kissing away my tears of joy. I thought we’d grow old together, the envy of everyone we knew. But in our seventh year, I noticed changes. Lemon candies—which I hated—started appearing in his pockets. Cheap hair ties were on his wrist. And… in moments of intimacy, he’d whisper a stranger’s name—”Lily.” I was devastated. I investigated and found a girl named Lily. Ethan had met her once and immediately taken her under his wing, showering her with care. Digging my nails into my palms, I prepared to confront her. But the day I left the house, I was hit by a car and woke up in the hospital. Ethan stood by my bed. His first words weren’t of concern, but of weary blame: “Sarah, I didn’t want to hit you. But I hope you won’t go trouble Lily.” My blood ran cold. He caused my accident? Just to stop me from confronting her? I stared at the man I thought I knew. “What is she to you?” Ethan rubbed his temples, annoyed, but finally confessed. “I wanted to hide it from you forever, but since you know… I fell in love with Lily at first sight. I like her. A lot.” He said “like” with more intensity than he ever showed when proposing to me. My heart felt torn apart. “You like her?! What about me? What about our twenty years together?!” Ethan was silent for a moment, then spoke calmly, cruelly. “Sarah, we grew up together. You were too perfect, like the moon. My feelings for you were probably just a desire to conquer, to own you. I mistook that for love. Until I met Lily. She’s so pure, so real. That’s when I understood true love.” “It’s my fault. I married you before understanding my own heart. So, as long as you don’t hurt Lily, you can stay Mrs. Vance. You’ll have the status you deserve.” He turned and left without looking back. Lying in that hospital bed, I felt like I had fallen into an ice cave. I thought it was a nightmare. A joke. But Ethan’s pursuit of Lily became public. Everyone gossiped about how he spent a fortune to make her smile, surpassing even his treatment of me. To reassure Lily, who felt “unworthy,” he moved her into our home and gave her control of our finances. Once Lily arrived, our home changed. Everything was measured by her extreme frugality. Life became chaotic and miserable, until… it led to my brother’s tragic death. The pain of being dragged brought me back to reality. As my consciousness faded, one thought burned in my mind like a poisoned vow— Ethan, I will never love you again. Never. When I woke up, I was in a hospital bed, my body screaming in agony. The room was empty. I struggled to sit up and discharged myself, expressionless. In the hallway, nurses whispered. “That Miss Lily in VIP is so lucky. Mr. Vance watched over her all night without blinking.” “Yeah, just a scratch, and he acted like it was fatal. Meanwhile, his wife is practically broken, and she’s all alone…” “Fate is cruel. They used to say he doted on his wife. Guess it’s out with the old, in with the new.” My heart stung, but I had no tears left. I went straight to a law firm. I pulled an old document from my bag and handed it to the lawyer. “I want a divorce.” It was a prenuptial agreement I jokingly made Ethan sign years ago. I had said, “Ethan, I don’t tolerate betrayal. If you ever wrong me, I will leave without looking back. You’ll lose me forever. Even if you kneel and beg, even if you kill yourself, I won’t come back.” Ethan had hugged me, laughing, kissing the top of my head. “That day will never come. We’ll never need this.” Now, everything had changed. And the agreement was finally being used. Chapter 3 The lawyer reviewed the document, confirmed the signatures, and declared it valid. Legally, after a one-month cooling-off period, if neither party withdrew, the divorce would be final. Regret? I smiled coldly. My only regret was not seeing through this man sooner and marrying him. I returned to the cold villa. Ethan didn’t come home for days. I didn’t care. I wouldn’t shed another tear for him. I started purging the house of Ethan. Photos, gifts, his clothes—everything went into the trash. I quietly packed my own things. Finally, Ethan returned with Lily, who was “recovered.” Seeing me, Ethan spoke flatly, with a hint of blame. “Sarah, Lily was hospitalized for a week because of you. This ends here. She feels guilty about Sam’s death, but we can’t bring him back. I bought him the best plot in the cemetery as compensation.” Lily walked in then. “Yes, Sarah, I’m sorry about your brother. But honestly, spending that much money on surgery was unnecessary. Five hundred thousand dollars? That could feed my whole village for a lifetime! Where I come from, if someone gets a disease that expensive, they just jump in the river to save their family the burden.” I dug my nails into my palms, using the pain to stay calm. “Are you done? If you’re done, move.” I didn’t want to waste words on them. Lily stepped forward. “Actually, there is something. You put me in the hospital, so I couldn’t buy discounted vegetables all week. We wasted so much money. We need to make it up. I know a spot by the river outside the city with lots of fish and shrimp. We can catch them and save on groceries for a month.” I couldn’t believe my ears. “Lily! That’s a Buddhist release pond! People buy animals to set them free for good karma! If we get caught…” Lily interrupted, self-righteous. “Animals are for eating! Releasing them is a waste of money! It’s stupid!” She grabbed my arm. “Let’s go!” I yanked my arm back. “I’m not going! I have money! I don’t need to save on groceries! Get out!” Ethan’s eyes turned cold. “Sarah, you are the heiress, yes. But you are also my wife. And don’t forget, your parents are gone, your brother is gone. I’ve been managing your family’s business. I am your only support! In this house, what I say goes!” My only support… The pain was unbearable. I remembered when my parents died, Ethan kneeling before their graves, vowing to protect me forever… Now, he used that against me. I shook, holding back tears. “If I refuse, will you kill me?” Ethan’s lips thinned. “I won’t kill you. But… I can’t guarantee Sam’s grave will stay peaceful.” I stared at him, horrified. “Ethan! What did you say?!” The man who said he couldn’t live without me was threatening my dead brother’s grave? Ethan looked away. “Sarah, just be sensible. Accept reality. Get along with Lily. Listen to me.” Devastated and threatened with my brother’s resting place, I had no choice but to submit. He was right. Grief-stricken and focused on Sam’s illness, I had ignored the family business. Ethan had taken over, merging our companies and becoming a tycoon. My assets were tied to him. I had no control. If I fought now, I’d lose everything. I had to endure until the divorce was final. Then I could take my share and leave. Ethan intended to come with us, but Lily stopped him. “Ethan, go to work! Your time is worth thousands a minute! Catching shrimp isn’t worth your time! Go make money!” Ethan agreed helplessly. Before leaving, he warned me, “Sarah, Lily just recovered. Take care of her.” My heart died completely in that moment. Chapter 4 Lily dragged me to the mountain behind a busy temple. Seeing the signs—”Release Pond,” “Infinite Merit”—I realized this was her “free seafood” spot. Lily jumped into the shallow water and started grabbing fish and turtles people had just released. “Lily! This is sacrilegious! If people see us…” “Food is food!” she retorted. “Buying this just to throw it back? Wasteful! Idiots!” She grabbed more. I turned to leave. Too late. Worshippers saw us. “Hey! What are you doing?! Those are sacred lives!” A crowd gathered, surrounding us, cursing us for our “sins.” An elder stepped forward. “You have desecrated this place. You must atone! Either kneel and bow every step up the 999 stairs to the temple to ask for forgiveness, or donate $100,000 in merit money!” I opened my mouth to pay, but Lily shrieked. “$100,000?! Are you crazy?! Robbery!” She grabbed me. “Come on! Let’s kneel! I’m not paying that!” I shook her off. “I’ll pay! Leave me out of it!” Lily held on tight. “No! We didn’t catch anything, and now we pay? No way! Money is more important than life! Sarah, you rich girls don’t know hardship! You have a lot to learn from me!” I raised my hand to slap her. Lily stepped back and pulled out her phone. “Don’t! If you don’t kneel, I call Ethan! See what happens to your brother’s grave!” My hand froze in mid-air, then dropped. Humiliated and trapped, I gritted my teeth. Under the scornful gaze of the crowd, I followed Lily, kneeling and bowing up the 999 stone steps. Knees on stone, forehead on dirt. Every movement was pain and shame. By the time we finished, we were bloody and exhausted. The crowd finally let us go. It was dark. Lily, refusing to spend money on a cab, insisted we walk home. I was in agony. I walked to the road to hail a taxi. Lily rushed to stop me. “No taxis! Too expensive! Walk! It’s good exercise!” “Let go!” I struggled. We fought on the shoulder of the road. Lily yanked my injured arm. I screamed in pain and shoved her away. Lily stumbled and let go. But the momentum threw me backward, straight into the middle of the road! Headlights blinded me. Tires screeched. Impact. I flew through the air, slamming onto the asphalt. Vision fading, the last thing I saw was Lily’s panicked but unrepentant face, and the cold city lights in the distance.

  • Reborn as My Own Niece

After dying from poverty and starvation, I spent a thousand years in the Underworld buttering up the King of Hell. Finally, he agreed to let me choose my next life. Scanning the “Wealthiest Families” list, I didn’t hesitate. I picked the #1 Billionaire family. Blinded by the dream of being a spoiled, only daughter in a crazy rich family, I ignored the “Family Composition” section. The father was a wife-guy to the extreme. The mother was a competitive, jealous psycho. My nightmare started the day they brought me home from the hospital to their mansion. Dad touched my cheek? Mom clawed a chunk of skin off my face, leaving me scarred. I cried from hunger, interrupting Mom’s beauty sleep? Dad stuffed me into the refrigerator until I had third-degree frostbite. My first birthday interrupted their “999th Day Since Our First Kiss” anniversary? They threw me into the fireplace. I burned until there was nothing left but ash. Back in the Underworld. The King of Hell pitied me and suggested I pick another family. But I pointed right back at that same damn family. I looked at the well-preserved, elegant Grandma on the screen and asked the Billionaire Grandpa: “The first account was a bust. Wanna start a new save file?” This time, I’m changing my mom! Grandpa, a vigorous 48-year-old, nodded without hesitation. That night, amidst some passionate sounds, I slipped into Grandma’s womb. A thousand years of sucking up, I wasn’t going to waste it. I was getting into that rich family one way or another! This time, I’m not the third generation. I’m the second generation! The thought of my former “dad” now having to split the inheritance with me, and my former “mom” having to call me “Sister-in-law”… It felt so good. Revenge time. I held onto the umbilical cord, silently absorbing nutrients. I never kicked or fussed when Grandma was resting. She was ex-military, fit as a fiddle. I felt myself growing strong along with her. When the time came, I slid out of Grandma… No, out of Mom’s belly, smooth as silk. Mom held me, beaming. “Honey, our daughter is a lucky baby!” “Birthing her didn’t hurt a bit.” She shot a glare at my former dad, Julian, who was currently being lovey-dovey with my former mom, Chloe. “Unlike someone who almost kicked a hole in my stomach when he was born.” “And now? Married and forgot his mother. Giving birth is like walking through the gates of hell, and he hasn’t even asked how I am…” A pair of large hands gently touched my soft cheek. I smelled the scent of old money coming from my billionaire dad. I gave him a sweet, obedient smile. My former grandpa—now my dad—melted instantly. “You did great, honey. Don’t worry, I’m going to make our daughter the happiest little princess in the world.” Hearing the word “princess,” Chloe’s jealousy radar pinged. She stomped her foot, pointed at her father-in-law, and teared up. “That’s not right!” “Hubby-bear, I’m the little princess, right?” Julian affectionately booped her nose. My mom rolled her eyes. Usually, if she said more than two words to her son, her daughter-in-law would whine for hours. Once, she couldn’t take it and kicked Chloe out. Her useless son threatened to jump off the roof! The Gu family needed an heir, so she had to beg her to come back. But she hated seeing them, so she made them move out. Seeing them only a few times a year, she naturally didn’t know how I was treated in my past life. But now things were different. I was born. If she kept tolerating this, she wouldn’t be worthy of her title as the Billionaire’s Wife and former Military Commander! Mom carried me right off the bed. “You’re over thirty. Can you stop acting like a toddler?” The moment Chloe saw my face, she let out a horrifying shriek! Julian also gasped. “This… isn’t this our dead daughter, Tina?” I suddenly opened my eyes and smirked. Calculating the date, today was the anniversary of my death in my past life. “Ghost! It’s a ghost!” Dad finally snapped. Slap! He backhanded Chloe across the face. “What nonsense are you spouting?!” Chloe burst into loud, ugly tears. I giggled loudly. Mom was infected by my laughter, delightedly poking the corner of my mouth. “What a smart baby. She can feel Mommy and Daddy’s emotions.” Dad put his arm around Mom’s shoulder. “Let’s take my big baby and little baby home to enjoy life.” As we turned the corner, I heard Chloe trembling with rage. She sobbed: “Hubby, did you see her eyes? Could it be… Tina, that little bitch, came back?” Mom and Dad took me home. Looking at the decor, even more luxurious than in my past life, I swore I wouldn’t repeat the same mistakes! After dinner, the private doctor gave Mom a postpartum recovery massage in her room. Dad held me, cooing gently. Suddenly, I stopped smiling. The two villains had arrived. Chloe wiped her tears, looking pitiful. “Dad, I lost my composure at the hospital today.” “You know, today is the anniversary of Tina’s death. Little Sister looks just like her, so I had a bit of a PTSD reaction.” Dad, seeing Chloe’s red eyes, softened a bit. “Alright. Your mom and I don’t blame you.” Forgiven, Chloe looked even more worried. “Dad, giving birth takes a toll on a woman. Mom is an older mother, she needs rest to recover well.” “You’re busy with the company. I’ve been through this, I have experience with babies…” “Hubby and I will move in starting today to help take care of the baby.” Mom was fit, but she didn’t have the energy of a twenty-year-old. Dad hesitated, then nodded. “It’ll be hard work for you then.” Dad, no! You just agreed?! I felt the sky falling. This was the fox guarding the henhouse! I wailed in panic, trying to protest their crimes. But Dad didn’t understand. He just said soothingly: “Aw, why is baby crying? Come here, Daddy’s got you…” Chloe snatched me first. “Dad, your arms are too hard. You’ll hurt the baby.” She pressed my face hard into her chest. My crying stopped instantly. “See, Dad? She stopped crying as soon as I held her.” Hey, wait! It’s not that I don’t want to cry! I literally can’t breathe! I can’t cry! Dad noticed something was off. “Are you holding her too tight?” “Dad, you obviously haven’t raised a baby. Babies are wrapped tight in the womb. Holding them tight gives them security…” Julian chimed in: “Dad, you don’t get it. Tina used to cry all night. We’d tie her up a little, and she’d sleep soundly.” You two have the nerve to bring that up? In my past life, Chloe didn’t just tie me up; she stuffed a rag in my mouth! Seeing that I was indeed quiet, Dad went to the study with Julian, relieved. Once their footsteps faded, Chloe sneered and tossed me onto the bed. “Little bitch. You’re too green to fight me!” Memories of past torture flooded back. I cried out in fear. Chloe slapped my face. “Shut up!” “Those two old fogeys said you love to smile. Why aren’t you smiling?” “Do you know who I am? Are you scared?” She stared down at me, eyes dead. Suddenly, the corner of her mouth curled up. I had a very bad feeling. She took a packet of powder from her bag, mixed it into a milk bottle, and shook it. She walked toward me, smiling grimly. “Baby be good. Sister-in-law is going to feed you.” As she got closer, I smelled peanuts. In my past life, I ate a peanut off the floor and went into anaphylactic shock. It almost killed me. I clamped my mouth shut and turned my head, refusing to let a drop in. Chloe sneered. “Little bitch, still afraid of peanuts, huh…” I forced myself to calm down. I had to save myself. Suddenly, I turned my head and giggled at the door. Chloe looked at the door, startled. Seizing the chance, I reached out and grabbed a handful of her meticulously maintained hair. Chloe screamed in pain. “Bitch! You dare pull my hair!” “Let go, or I’ll kill you!” I pulled harder, practically hanging off her hair! Amidst her screams, a huge patch of hair ripped out, roots and scalp included. Hurried footsteps sounded outside. The door burst open. Mom yelled, “What are you doing?!”

  • Shadow of a Father

After my husband gave our four-year-old daughter, Lily, a bath, she came crying to me, saying she hurt “down there.” I was terrified. My immediate reaction was to take her to the ER. But my husband, Mark, frantically tried to stop me. “It’s probably just irritation from not drinking enough water,” he stammered. “No need for all that drama.” I hesitated, but a mother’s instinct won out. I took her to the hospital. After the examination, the doctor looked at me with a heavy, somber expression. “Your daughter may have been sexually abused. You need to call the police.” 1 Sexual abuse? My brain exploded. The words felt alien, impossible. “Doctor, are you… could there be a mistake?” I clutched the report, my voice trembling. But the doctor’s answer was firm. However, he couldn’t confirm if the injury was self-inflicted out of curiosity or caused by someone with malicious intent. For Lily’s physical and mental well-being, he strongly advised involving the police. My lips quivered as I squeezed my daughter’s small hand. Lily didn’t understand. On the drive home, she looked at me with wide, innocent eyes and asked, “Mommy, what does ‘sexual abuse’ mean?” I didn’t know how to explain it to a four-year-old. The priority was figuring out how she got hurt. I pulled over near a park and sat Lily on a bench. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I asked gently, “Lily, can we have a little chat?” She nodded obediently. “Honey, have you… touched yourself down there recently?” She looked at me, then down at her dress, and shook her head. “No, Mommy.” Panic set in. If she didn’t do it herself… Mark? Usually, I handle bath time. Last night, I was stuck at a work dinner and couldn’t make it back, so I asked Mark to bathe her. And this morning, she woke up crying about the pain. I didn’t want to suspect Mark. He was a doting father. His social media was 90% Lily. He even ran a TikTok account documenting their cute moments, and his followers constantly praised him as the perfect “girl dad.” Sometimes, I was even a little jealous. No matter how busy work got, I always made time for Lily, hoping I mattered just as much to her. How could a father like that hurt his own daughter? “Then…” I hesitated, asking the question that terrified me most. “Has anyone else touched you there?” Lily went silent, thinking. Every second felt like an hour. I could barely breathe. Finally, she spoke. “What do you mean ‘touch’? Like how Daddy touched me in the bath? Does that count?” My blood ran cold. “Daddy…” My voice shook so hard I could barely form words. “How did Daddy touch you?” Lily started to lift her hand toward her skirt to show me. I couldn’t watch. I stopped her immediately. Even though I didn’t want to believe it, her words, her reaction, and Mark’s strange behavior this morning… it all pointed to him. I had to confront him. And then, I had to put that monster in prison. 2 I called in sick and took Lily home. As soon as we walked in, Mark greeted us with a beaming smile. “Hey, you’re back! How’s my little princess?” I kept my face neutral, trying to figure out how to get Lily out of the room before confronting him. Sensing my mood, he picked Lily up. “What did the doctor say? Just dehydration, right? Did they prescribe anything?” “No,” I said stiffly. “Then what?” He pressed, his expression unnatural. “Did she just scratch herself?” He was still playing dumb. Rage bubbled up inside me. When he leaned in to kiss Lily’s cheek, I snapped. I yanked her out of his arms. It was too rough. Lily burst into tears. Mark glared at me. “What the hell are you doing? Even if she hurt herself, she’s four! You don’t take it out on her. We educate her, okay?” Seeing him cradle our crying daughter so tenderly, my resolve wavered. He loved her so much. Could he really…? “I wasn’t…” I mumbled. Mark ignored me and carried Lily to her room to calm her down. I followed and stood outside the door. Watching him make silly faces to get her to smile, my certainty began to crumble. 3 Once Lily was settled with her iPad, I called Mark out. He came out looking annoyed. “Okay, explain. Why were you so rough with her?” I pulled the medical report from my bag and handed it to him. “The doctor says Lily was likely sexually abused.” I stared at his face, searching for any crack in his mask. He frowned. “But she never goes out alone. No men have been over. How could…” I didn’t answer. I just stared. Realization dawned on him. “Honey… you don’t suspect me, do you? Are you insane? I would never touch her like that!” “I don’t want to believe it either…” I buried my face in my hands. “But you bathed her last night, and this morning she was in pain. She said you touched her…” “She misunderstood!” He was frantic now. “I just washed her with a washcloth! I didn’t do anything weird! Maybe she learned something bad from a boy at preschool?” His words sparked a memory. There was a boy in Lily’s class, a troublemaker who liked to lift girls’ skirts and hug them inappropriately. Lily had complained about him before. We had even spoken to the principal about moving him to another class. Could he have gotten to her? I immediately demanded we go to the preschool. Mark looked at Lily’s closed door and refused. “Lily’s upset. We can’t drag her there now. You go check the security footage. If you find anything, we call the cops. I’ll stay here, watch her, and make dinner.” It sounded reasonable. I grabbed my bag and left. Downstairs, I realized I’d left my car keys on the shoe rack. I went back up. As I stepped out of the elevator, I heard a muffled cry from inside our apartment. “Daddy, stop! No!” My heart hammered in my throat. I punched in the code and burst through the door. Mark was on the sofa, holding a struggling Lily. Her face was flushed. I saw red. I swung my heavy purse and smashed it into his face. “Ow!” He yelled, letting go of Lily and clutching his eye. I grabbed Lily, screaming, “Mark, you bastard! She’s your daughter! You’re an animal! I’m calling the police right now!” I fumbled for my phone, but Mark snatched it away. His eye was swelling shut. He glared at me. “Are you crazy?! I was trying to give her Vitamin D!” Vitamin D? I looked at the coffee table. There was an open bottle of chewable vitamins. “But I heard her screaming ‘no’!” I was still shaking. He sighed, looking exasperated. “Lily, tell Mommy.” I looked down at my daughter. She pouted angrily. “Daddy’s mean. I hate the medicine. He forced me.” It was true. Lily hated taking vitamins. It was always a battle. I felt like the worst person in the world. “Mark, I’m so sorry. I’m just… paranoid.” I tried to touch his swollen eye. “Do you need a doctor?” “No.” He pushed my hand away. “I get that you’re worried, but I’m her father. You shouldn’t doubt me. Just go check the footage. I’ve got this.” He was right. I was wrong to suspect him. “Okay. I’m going.” I grabbed my keys and left, guilt heavy in my chest. 4 At the preschool, I showed the principal the medical report. She was shocked and immediately pulled the security tapes. The footage showed Lily playing normally. Until yesterday afternoon. A boy I didn’t recognize snuck into her classroom. Lily hesitated, then followed him out. They disappeared from the cameras for ten minutes. When Lily reappeared, her face was red, and her clothes were disheveled. The principal and teachers went silent. “Mrs. Evans,” the principal said carefully. “Although this boy took Lily, we don’t have proof he… did anything. Maybe we shouldn’t jump to conclusions.” “No proof? He’s not in her class! Where did they go for ten minutes? And look at her clothes! I’m calling the police. I don’t care if he’s four, I want answers!” The principal tried to stop me. “Think about Lily. A police investigation… the rumors… it could traumatize her. And the boy is a minor; he won’t face legal consequences.” Her words hit home. If the law couldn’t punish him, dragging Lily through an investigation might do more harm than good. But I demanded to see the boy’s parents. I couldn’t let this go. The principal agreed and called the mother.

  • Dead Best Friend, Debt Collector

Six years after I died, I came back to the living world to collect a debt. Turns out, I racked up a massive bill in the afterlife. I’m an orphan, no parents to mooch off, so I pinned all my hopes on my best friend. But the moment I stepped into her house, glowing text started floating across my vision like a glitchy livestream chat: [ Help! The tragic heroine is spiraling again! She just smashed all the designer bags the male lead bought her. ] [ Her husband cheated, her son hates her… she’s been suicidal for a while now. ] [ Nobody dares to go in. They’re scared they’ll push her over the edge… Wait!? Who just took the door off its hinges?! And moved it?! And just walked in like she owns the place?! ] That would be me. I watched my best friend, Chloe, getting ready to slit her wrists. I grabbed her arm, snatched the knife away, and screamed with excitement: “Bestie! You know I hate snakes! But that Bvlgari Serpenti bracelet on your wrist? Exception made.” “Also, don’t die yet. I owe a ton of money in Hell and I need you to pay it off.” Hearing this, Chloe stopped crying. She forgot about killing herself. Instead, she started chasing me with the knife. “You brat! You didn’t visit me once when you were dead, but the moment you need money, I’m your first stop?!” The floating chat was confused: [ What kind of home invasion friendship is this…? ] 1 When I burst into the master bedroom of Chloe’s luxurious mansion, she was holding a fruit knife to her wrist. The maids were clustered outside, terrified to intervene. Until I grabbed her wrist and gave her a thumbs up. “Wow, Chloe. Flexing your diamond snake bracelet without me? Rude.” Chloe looked bewildered. The maids’ jaws dropped. The chat exploded with question marks: [ ??? ] [ Sis, are you seeing what I’m seeing? The heroine is literally committing suicide and you’re admiring her jewelry… ] [ She’s built different. ] Chloe stared at me with swollen, red-rimmed eyes. The despair in her gaze was replaced by pure shock. In my memory, she was bright and beautiful, always wearing a high ponytail, resilient and full of hope. She used to say: “Tay, you have to be my maid of honor when I marry Julian.” But now, looking at her pale face, her dull eyes, her messy hair, and crumpled pajamas… it felt like a lifetime ago. Chloe was so thin she looked like a skeleton. One touch and she might shatter. I’d never seen her this broken. A sharp pain pricked my heart. Six years. When I finally appeared before her again, she looked ready to pass out. She stared at me, buffering. I took the opportunity to snatch the fruit knife from her hand and leaned in to admire the blindingly sparkly bracelet under the light. “Bestie, you know I’m terrified of snakes. But Bvlgari? That’s not a snake, that’s art.” I looked at my own bare wrist and felt a pang of envy. Shamelessly, I said: “You selfish brat! Share the wealth. Take off that diamond encrusted thing and let me wear it for a bit.” The maids outside were staring like I was an alien. One of them couldn’t take it anymore and spoke up: “Who brought you in here? Have you no manners? You think you can just ask for a million-dollar bracelet and get it?” But the next second, Chloe stopped crying. She wiped her tears messily, took off the bracelet right there, and slid it onto my wrist. Her voice was hoarse, choked with sobs: “If you told me you liked it earlier, I would have bought you another one.” The maids looked at each other, eyes popping out of their heads. She actually gave it to her? 2 After the maids dispersed, I looked at the empty doorway. I dragged the door I’d removed back into place, leaning it precariously against the frame to block the view. Ignoring the chaos, I sneakily pulled a crumpled IOU from my pocket and handed it to Chloe with a sycophantic grin. “Guess what goodie I brought back from the Underworld for you?” Chloe was still a bit down, but at least she wasn’t trying to off herself anymore. But after unfolding my astronomical debt note, she transformed back into the crazy woman I knew from high school. No more staring blankly at the ceiling, no more pondering the meaning of life. She picked up the fruit knife I’d thrown away and started chasing me. Her voice wasn’t weak anymore. Her shout scared the birds out of the garden trees. The maids rushed back, only to see this: Chloe chasing me around the room with a knife. “Taylor! You dead brat! You didn’t visit me in a dream once, but now you show up for money?!” “Do I owe you from a past life?! I’m gonna kill you, let’s just die together!” I raised my hands in surrender, running for my life. “Chloe! Chloe! Don’t be like this! Let me explain…” The butler, arriving late and missing everything, quietly pulled out his phone and dialed. “Hello, sir. You might not believe this, but the Madam, who was too weak to walk earlier, is currently chasing someone with a knife.” 3 Chloe refused to pay my debt directly. She ruthlessly made me work it off as a maid in her villa. One thousand dollars an hour. I humbly started my career as a domestic servant. Because she was emotionally unstable, she often threw things and refused to eat. So, when the chef’s food was sent back to the kitchen again, everyone looked defeated. The head chef even started questioning his life choices. I glanced at the floating text: [ The heroine is basically anorexic. So pitiful. ] [ Ever since her parents went bankrupt and jumped off a building a few years ago, she’s been all alone. Husband doesn’t love her, son doesn’t love her. I would have given up too. ] [ It’s a tragic novel, what do you expect? Later, the male lead will force her to donate a kidney to the female villain. She almost dies on the table, and THEN he starts his redemption arc! Can’t wait! ] I walked into the kitchen and started chopping vegetables like I was chopping up a scumbag. I made a bowl of noodles and excitedly brought it to Chloe. Chloe had no appetite. She turned her head away, refusing to eat even when I tried to force her. She said bluntly: “I want to vomit when I see food. I can’t eat.” I raised an eyebrow at her dramatic flair. I picked up a piece of beef with chopsticks and switched to a baby voice: “Here comes the airplane~” “Say ahhh~” Chloe’s mouth opened wider than my fist. … Heh. Women. The chat was losing it: [ Is Taylor a new character? I’m dying laughing. She knows exactly how to handle the heroine. ] [ Has anyone noticed the heroine is gaining weight? She looks so much healthier now. Her beauty is coming back! ] [ Who is this Taylor? She keeps calling the heroine ‘bestie’, but she wasn’t in the story before? ] … 4 These days, with me by her side, Chloe rarely lost control. During my time in the Underworld, I learned everything about her last ten years. I knew about the nightmares of her parents jumping. I knew about her husband, Julian, keeping a mistress who came to the house to humiliate her. I knew Julian turned a blind eye, forcing her to apologize to the mistress on her knees. She had lost herself, pushed around like a puppet with no strings. … Today, I pestered Chloe to take a walk in the front garden. The chat sighed: [ Damn, bestie power is real. If the husband asked, he would have gotten a pillow to the face. ] [ Wait, I remember this plot point. This is when the grandparents bring back her demon spawn son! ] [ Taylor, don’t let Liam see her! He hates his mom. He’s her biological son but refuses to acknowledge her. ] … Before the text could finish, two elegantly dressed elderly people walked into the yard, holding a child’s hand. Chloe and I were currently fighting for space on a swing bench. Chloe smiled at me. But for some reason, this scene triggered her son, Liam. Liam furiously threw his limited edition model car on the ground, charged at us, and screamed: “Get lost! Why are you sitting on my swing!” He started shoving Chloe’s legs with all his might. Chloe’s smile froze. She grabbed my hand insecurely but looked at Liam: “Liam, don’t be like this…” The chat was wailing: [ Sob… she carried him for ten months, how can she not love him? She really wants to be close to her son! ] [ Ungrateful wolf, just like his dad! ] [ Seriously, can someone discipline this brat? He has no manners. I want to jump into the book and spank him! ] I raised an eyebrow at this hands-on-hips, angry little meatball. Looks just like his dad. Liam huffed arrogantly, sure that Chloe wouldn’t do anything to him. He looked like he owned the place. The next second, I sneered, grabbed him by the ear, yanked him onto my lap, and spanked his butt with full force. Smack! Smack! In the distance, his grandparents, who had looked indifferent, suddenly reacted. They hobbled over with their canes as fast as they could. “Who is this crazy woman?! How dare you hit my grandson! Put him down! Put him down!” Liam howled, crying harder: “Ahhh! Grandpa, Grandma, my butt hurts! She’s hitting me! Save me woo woo woo…” I didn’t stop. I hit him harder. Hearing him cry made me excited: “You brat! If your mom won’t teach you a lesson, your godmother will!” When I got tired, the grandparents snatched Liam from my arms and started wailing: “Oh my god! Are the servants deaf?! Security? Where is security?!” Three of them, hugging and crying. The chat exploded: [ Holy sht holy sht holy sht! Sis, you are my hero! You really did it!* ] [ Wait guys, why does the heroine look like she’s trying not to laugh? She looks… happy? ] [ Omg, she IS laughing! She’s not even hiding it! She’s laughing so loud! I feel like she’s about to applaud! Hahaha! ] The servants rushed over with spatulas and brooms, but when they saw the old couple pointing at me, they froze. Liam wiped his tears, face red, stomping his feet. He rushed at me to hit me. His grandparents joined in, grabbing my clothes. Chloe saw the situation going south and tried to block them with her arms. The servants rushed to break it up. Chaos. Liam wound up a chubby fist, but before he could hit me, I sat on the ground and started wailing: “Oh my god! Is there no justice?! Help! Help! Liam is hitting people! None of the kids in the Hope Class will play with him! Oh my god~” Liam blinked his big eyes, confused. Then he waved his hands frantically, trying to explain: “Liar! You bad woman! I didn’t touch you! …I… I didn’t!” Seeing me pushed down, Chloe, who was always composed, suddenly hardened her face. She shoved the people around her away. No one expected the gentle, patient mother to grab Liam by the collar, drag him into her arms, and spank him just as hard as I did. Liam started howling again. His grandparents couldn’t believe their eyes. They thought Chloe had gone insane: “Chloe Lu! You little bitch! You’ve lost your mind! I’m telling Julian! Let’s see if he tolerates this rebellion!” The servants tried to intervene: “Madam, please let the young master go! The master will be angry! Madam…!” Chloe ignored them. Her voice was ice cold: “Liam! What did Mommy tell you?! Can you hit people?! “What do you say now?!” Liam was stunned by the beating. He cried and begged: “I’m sorry, I’m sorry… I was wrong… I was wrong! Stop hitting me! Woo woo woo…” The servants stopped intervening. The grandparents stopped wailing. Everyone watched Chloe discipline her child live. “Who are you sorry to?! Speak!” I leaned in and whispered in Liam’s ear: “It’s Godmother.” Liam struggled violently. Seeing my smug face, he turned red, snot and tears flying: “I don’t want to call this bad woman Godmother! I don’t want to woo woo woo…” Chloe raised her hand again. Liam surrendered. He stopped crying and forced a smile: “Sorry Godmother, I was wrong.” I nodded with satisfaction. The chat was a mess, firing off confetti for me: [ Damn! Did I see that right? The brat never listened to her before! He always hurt her! She gave up on him! Taylor used a little trick and got the heroine back in the game! ] [ I’ve never seen the heroine this angry! Even when the husband paraded the mistress in front of her, she did nothing. Taylor gets pushed gently and she snaps… ] [ So satisfying! Following Taylor is like watching a revenge drama! I will follow Sister Tay forever! ] [ Heroine: You touch my bestie, I destroy your world (and beat my son). ] Liam’s grandparents were so angry they almost fainted. They called Julian immediately: “Come back quick! Your wife is leading a rebellion!”

  • My Skin-Hungry Roommate

My stepbrother kicked me out because he couldn’t handle my “condition.” I have Skin Hunger. Severe touch starvation. Without physical contact, I feel like I’m burning alive. So, I found a roommate. A hacker. Quiet, mysterious, and an incredible cook. One night, while eating his tiramisu, glowing text floated across my vision like a Twitch chat: [ Run, girl! He’s a yandere! There are handcuffs under his pillow! ] [ He fantasizes about chaining you to his bed every night. ] [ You’re still eating? Once you’re full, it’s his turn to feast. ] That night, someone kissed me in the dark. I shivered with excitement. 1 Before my mom and stepdad left for their world tour, they told my stepbrother, Ethan, to take care of me. But my skin hunger was flaring up. Every night was torture. To cope, I took scalding hot showers until my skin was raw and red. Ethan hated it. He banged on the bathroom door. “Serena! How many showers are you gonna take? Are you that dirty?” I turned off the tap, guilty. “I… I just don’t feel well.” I craved touch. Desperately. The hot water was a poor substitute, but it was all I had. “What’s wrong with you?” Ethan’s voice was low. I wrapped a towel around myself and opened the door. He stared at my flushed skin, frowning. “Are you trying to boil yourself alive?” “The hot water… it helps,” I whispered, my eyes misty. “You’re weird. Stop it.” He looked away, but I saw the tips of his ears turn red. As he turned to leave, I grabbed his arm. “Ethan, wait. Can you…” I bit my lip. Ethan stopped. He looked at my hand on his arm. “Can I what?” “Can you… hug me?” The silence stretched for thirty seconds. “Serena,” he finally said, pulling away. “I’m your brother. Have some boundaries.” “We’re not related by blood!” I argued. “And we used to date! We hugged then!” “Mom and Dad aren’t home. Just one hug? Please? My skin hunger is killing me…” “Skin hunger?” He scoffed. “Sounds like delusion to me.” He looked at me sternly. “Serena, we are never getting back together. Stop making up excuses.” I froze. I let go of his arm. “Okay. I get it.” 2 Ethan and I dated in college. After we broke up, my mom married his dad. We became legal siblings. Not biological, but close enough to make things awkward. We never talked about our past. A year ago, Ethan asked to get back together. I said no. I like the possessive, obsessive type. Ethan was too normal. I told him, “Ethan, I’m your sister. We can’t.” Who knew he’d throw my own words back at me? Ethan works at his dad’s company now. My mom says he’s close with his secretary, Chloe. Maybe that’s why he won’t touch me. Or maybe our past relationship traumatized him. I went back into the bathroom and cranked the heat up. Suddenly, the water went cold. “One shower a day,” Ethan yelled from outside. “Or I shut off the water main.” I couldn’t sleep. My skin crawled. Ethan’s room was next door. He texted me: [ Can you stop? If you keep this up, move out. ] I thought for a second. [ Fine. I’ll move out tomorrow. ] 3 I found a two-bedroom apartment on Craigslist. First floor, garden access. My roommate was a 25-year-old guy named Julian. We lived together peacefully for two weeks. He was handsome, quiet, and cooked like a Michelin chef. He always made enough for two. Until tonight. I was eating his homemade tiramisu when text started floating in the air. [ Run! He’s a psycho! Handcuffs under the pillow! ] [ He wants to lock you up. ] [ You’re eating his food? Girl, you ARE the food. ] I peeked at Julian. Is he really a yandere? A psycho obsessive type? And he’s gorgeous? This is… exciting. Ethan broke up with me because he thought I was a freak. I used to tell him, “I wish you’d lock me up. Buy some handcuffs, okay?” Ethan looked at me like I was a monster. “Serena, you need help.” Yes, I do. Once, we got stuck in an elevator. Ethan was checking his watch, waiting for rescue. I was secretly hoping the rescue team would never come so we could die together in that metal box. Ethan was terrified by my thoughts. I broke up with him because he wasn’t possessive enough. Back to reality. I finished the tiramisu. “I take long showers,” I told Julian. “If you need to use the bathroom, go ahead.” “No rush,” he said calmly. “You go first.” “Okay.” I went to my room to get a towel. As I closed the door, more text floated by. [ Want to see what Julian is doing right now? Look through the crack. ] I froze. I peeked through the gap in the door. Julian was in the living room. He dipped his finger into the leftover cream on my plate. He brought it to his lips and licked it off slowly. Then he looked up. His eyes met mine through the crack. Dark, intense, and hungry. Like a predator. I slammed the door shut. My heart was pounding. He watched me eat every time. He never ate with me. Now I know why. He eats my leftovers. So perverted. I love it. 4 I walked out with my towel and pajamas. Julian was washing the plate in the sink. His back was straight, his demeanor cold and distant again. Like the cream-licking psycho never existed. I went into the bathroom. The text appeared again. [ You know why he waits for you to shower first? ] [ Because he likes to use your used… ] [ You have skin hunger. He has an addiction. ] [ Match made in heaven. ] My face burned. No way. That’s too much. Is there more? [ He has hundreds of photos of you on his phone. ] What? How? [ He’s a hacker. A genius. Your life is an open book to him. ] [ He hacked your phone ages ago. ] [ He knows your search history. ] [ Scary, right? You should run. ] I was getting more excited by the second. Scary? No. This is my dream. My search history is basically: What does it feel like to date a yandere? How to cure skin hunger? Dreams about being chained up meaning? How to attract a possessive man? If he hacked my phone, he knows exactly what I am. [ Of course he knows. He baited you with that rental ad. ] [ He’s been obsessed with you for years. ] [ He says your name in his sleep. ] Wow. I turned the shower heat up. My skin hunger was raging. Hot water wasn’t enough anymore. I wanted… Julian. Handcuffs under the pillow? Even better. I wondered what it would be like. A girl who needs touch and a man addicted to her. [ You guys wouldn’t leave the bedroom for a week. ] [ You’re a fish out of water. He’s the ocean. ] [ He’ll never let you go thirsty. ] The steam made me dizzy. “Mmm…” I moaned softly. “Serena?” Julian’s voice came from outside the door. Low and husky. “Do you need help?”

  • Boss by Day, Baby by Night

Chapter 1 So, I just found out that the online boyfriend I flirt with every night—the one who calls me “Baby” and begs for bedtime stories—is actually my boss. The same boss who nitpicks my work during the day with the cold precision of a serial killer. I was in the middle of a department presentation when I realized it. My hand shook so hard I accidentally cut the screen share. My boss, Ethan Blackwood, sat at the head of the table, frowning. He tapped his knuckles on the mahogany surface, clearly unimpressed by my lack of professionalism. Just moments before, I’d accidentally connected to his laptop instead of mine. And there it was, plastered on the giant conference room screen: my cat. Not just any cat picture. A specific, heavily photoshopped glamour shot of my stray rescue, Mittens. I remembered the conversation vividly. [Y-Man]: Baby, do you have any cat pics? [Me]: ?? [Me]: My cat was ugly when I found him, but he’s super cute now! [Y-Man]: Let me see? I spent thirty minutes editing that photo to get the lighting just right. I knew for a fact that only two people in the world had that image: me, and my mysterious online boyfriend, “Y-Man.” Unless he shared it? Right. That had to be it. Calm down, Sarah, I told myself. You’ve been watching too many K-dramas. There’s no way. Ethan Blackwood is the terrifying new VP who parachuted into HQ three months ago. A man with a tongue so sharp it could cut glass. How could he be my clingy, sweet, digital boyfriend? It’s impossible. Those cheesy, sticky, cringe-worthy lines couldn’t possibly come from those thin, cruel lips. My brain went blank. “You have five minutes. Start now or we adjourn. Don’t waste everyone’s time,” a cold, deep voice cut through my panic. “Sorry, starting now,” I mumbled, head down, clicking open my PowerPoint. I didn’t dare look at the man at the head of the table. Chapter 2 “Sarah, are you okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost. Want to take the afternoon off?” The meeting ended. My team lead, Mark, stayed behind to help me pack up. He noticed my shirt was soaked with sweat and my face was pale. I shook my head. “Just nervous.” “I get it. Presenting to the Big Demon is terrifying. But you did great!” Mark was two years ahead of me in college and my mentor at work. He always looked out for me. “Let’s grab dinner tonight. On me. You need to recharge.” He reached out to pat my head. Normally, I’d never say no to a free meal. But right now… I dodged his hand instinctively. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a tall figure pause behind Mark. I winked frantically at Mark. “Uh, Mark, I really need to revise the proposal based on Mr. Blackwood’s feedback. Rain check?” “You gotta eat! You always complain the cafeteria food makes you want to quit,” Mark laughed. The temperature in the room dropped ten degrees. “So, it’s the cafeteria’s fault Ms. Jenkins can’t produce a decent proposal?” Ethan Blackwood’s voice was light, teasing, but his eyes were dark pools of judgment. Caught bad-mouthing the company? Mark froze, standing at attention like a soldier. Ethan walked past us, dropping a final command: “Ms. Jenkins, bring the revised proposal directly to my office.” Me: “Yes, sir…” Chapter 3 Back at my desk, my phone was exploding with messages from Y-Man. [Y-Man]: Baby, forecast says rain. Go home early tonight. [Transfer: $500] [Y-Man]: For an Uber. Don’t take the subway. [Y-Man]: I learned a new song on guitar. I’ll play it for you tonight. [Y-Man]: This meeting is so boring. I just want to call you… … [Y-Man]: Baby must be busy. Your boss is a slave driver! Won’t even let you text back. [Y-Man]: Text me when you’re free~ KissKiss~ ( ˘ ³˘)♥ Reading these sweet nothings didn’t give me butterflies. It gave me a heart attack. The more I read, the colder I felt. If Ethan really is my online boyfriend… Your “Baby” is working overtime because of YOU! That “boring meeting” was MY presentation you tore apart! Yes! You ARE a slave driver! I typed, deleted, and retyped: [Are you my boss?] If he is, I’m fired. We talked about everything. If he’s not… well, that’s just embarrassing. I felt defeated. Y-Man and I had been hot and heavy for three months. We planned to meet before the holidays. My chat background was a photo he sent—a close-up of his hand. Long fingers, elegant knuckles, clean nails. It was hand-model quality. As a sucker for nice voices and nice hands, I fell hard. We met on a mobile game. I was solo queuing, matched with a trio of friends and him, the silent jungler. The trio played terribly and blamed the jungler. They were toxic on mic. He said nothing. I couldn’t stand it. I turned on my mic and roasted them. They shut up. After the game, I got a friend request from the jungler. He invited me to duo. I told him I was voice-banned. He typed: Add me on WeChat? We went from gaming buddies to chat buddies. One night I was pulling an all-nighter for work. He stayed on voice call with me, saying he was jet-lagged in Europe. The next morning he asked for my address. Thirty minutes later, a hot gourmet breakfast arrived. My lonely corporate heart melted. We started voice calling every night. He sang to me, told stories, told dad jokes to help me sleep. After three months of ambiguity, I asked to meet. He sent a voice message, sounding like he was crying with joy: [Baby, really? You mean it? No take-backs!] [I promise. I work at Riverside Tower. Let’s grab lunch nearby?] He went silent. Looking back, the vibe was great until I mentioned the location. Riverside Tower is owned by the Blackwood Group. He must have realized I was an employee. So he bailed. If Y-Man is Ethan Blackwood, he’s the heir to a billion-dollar empire. He wouldn’t get serious with a grunt like me. Our chat logs alone could tank the company stock if leaked. I felt a sudden loss. He didn’t want to meet because of who I was. My friend said online dating fails because people are ugly in person. I almost wished he was just ugly. Being rejected for my status hurt more. But wait. Ethan doesn’t know I’m his “Baby.” He just thinks I’m an incompetent employee. He’s in the light. I’m in the dark. This could be fun. I picked up my phone. Revenge time. [Me]: Hubby, I can’t voice chat tonight. My evil boss is making us redo the proposal overnight. Five minutes later, a notification popped up in the work group chat: [Proposal deadline extended by 24 hours.] [Me]: Hubby, the cafeteria food is slop. Too much work, too little pay. Maybe I should quit! At lunch, the cafeteria announced a menu upgrade—free of charge. That afternoon, Mark ran in, beaming. “Bonus pool doubled this month!” I sat there eating my premium lunch, calculating my new bonus, feeling like a genius. Until I heard office gossip. A coworker’s friend broke up with her boyfriend, and he sent her an itemized spreadsheet of every dime he spent on her. Rent, travel, even gaming skins. He demanded repayment or he wouldn’t break up. A chill ran down my spine. I had milked “Hubby” for a lot of perks lately. I needed to cut the cord before we met. I asked Y-Man one last time if we could meet. He used the “busy with work” excuse again. Perfect. I sent the draft I had prepared: [Hubby, you won’t see me. I can’t hug you, I can’t kiss you. Let’s break up.] Block. Delete. Chapter 4 After the breakup, my sleep quality tanked. No one to sing me lullabies. I had nightmares. In the dream, the secretary dragged me to the CEO’s office. Heavy doors. Darkness. “If I let you hug me… and kiss me… will you stay?” a voice sobbed in the dark. … But I didn’t have time for feelings. The project deadline was looming. The whole team was running on caffeine and desperation. The only upside was passing out from exhaustion the second my head hit the pillow. Finally, the proposal was perfect. Even God couldn’t find a typo. I marched to the 36th floor. The beautiful secretary, Lisa, stopped me. “Mr. Blackwood isn’t in.” He didn’t come in the next day either. Or the third. I started to worry. Was he hurt? I unblocked Y-Man. Immediately, a location pin popped up. And three words: [I miss you.] It was a bar in the city center. Famous for expensive drinks and rich clientele. At the same time, Lisa texted me the exact same address. [Lisa]: Word is Little Boss has been drinking there every night. If you need him urgently, try your luck. I grabbed my laptop and headed to the bar. It wasn’t a loud club; it was a quiet, upscale lounge. Ethan had the VIP booth to himself. He was slumped on the sofa, surrounded by empty bottles. He was drunk. His eyes were misty, cheeks flushed, corners of his eyes red. His shirt was unbuttoned, revealing… well, let’s just say the reality was better than the photos Y-Man sent. He was clutching something tightly to his chest. A phone? I tiptoed over. “Mr. Blackwood?” He lifted heavy eyelids. Suddenly, he grabbed my hand. His gaze sharpened… then fell to the laptop in my other arm. Disappointment washed over his face. He let go. “Did Lisa send you?” I stared at him blankly. Playing dumb is a survival skill. He didn’t press it. He looked down at his drink. “Leave the proposal. I’ll read it.” Dismissed. At least he’s alive. I turned to leave. “Wait,” he said. “On your way in… did you see a girl? About your age?” “It’s a bar, sir. Lots of young people.” He toyed with his phone, the light in his eyes dying out. “Right. Go home.” “Yes, sir. See you tomorrow~” I ran for it. Behind me, I thought I heard a low sob.

  • The Algorithm of Revenge

Chapter 1 “Honestly, you’re kind of ugly,” my husband of seven years said, staring coldly at my tear-streaked face. “And when you cry, you look even worse.” With that, he walked out and slept in the study again. But his wife, the one who cried too much, had already swallowed a bottle of Paraquat and exited this world.
