  • Rejected the Alpha, Mated to the Lycan King

“Aargh… Yes Baby…” The head of my alpha mate’s manhood popped from the rogue’s mouth. I covered my mouth, tears brimming in my eyes. The one I’d loved for 10 years was now cheating on me… So I rejected him and mated to the Lycan King, instantly becoming the powerful Luna Queen. *** My wolf recognized Alpha Darren as mate many years ago, and today was supposed to be our marking ceremony—the day I would officially become the Luna of the Duskwood Pack. With a nervous yet graceful smile, I carefully lifted the hem of my dress and stepped onto the stage. Looking around, I felt the gaze of the entire pack settle on me. I took a deep breath to calm myself and took a glance at my watch—Darren should’ve been here before. Whispers began to ripple through the pack below. I anxiously scanned the hall, only to realize that Beta Landon, who was always by Darren’s side, was also nowhere to be seen. Just then, the elder walked in and announced in a booming voice, “Alpha Darren has gone to the border on important business. Today’s marking ceremony is canceled.” Border? Was it the enemy coming to invade? I hurried over to the elder, desperate to confirm their safety, “Elder, what happened? Do they need me there?” The elder glanced at me and said, “they’re just going to pick someone up. There’s no need to be so anxious.” With that, he left, leaving me alone to face the entire pack. My heart sank, and a chill crawled up my spine. The “someone” who could make Darren and Landon so eager to pick up, even abandoning me all alone, could only be her. Xandra Young—the rogue they took in three years ago. When they brought her back, Darren had just become the Alpha of the Duskwood Pack with the secret support of my family, and as his mate, I was supposed to soon become the rightful Luna of the pack. But Xandra’s arrival ruined everything. Xandra never hid her desire for Darren and was almost always by his side. Even Landon seemed enchanted by her, constantly fawning over her. Meanwhile, I, who had grown up with them, was slowly pushed aside. I kept giving in, but all I got in return was her pressing harder—because what she wanted was never just Darren. She wanted to take MY place. On the day Darren went into mate heat, she set it all up—had Landon hold me back while she deliberately got my scent on herself to lure Darren into losing control. By the time I realized something was wrong and broke free from Landon, they were already tangled together, both naked, about to complete the final bond. That was the first time I let my wolf take over—raw, furious, and out of control, nothing like the docile Hannah they were used to. In an instant, I shifted into a massive white wolf and pounced on Xandra, pinning her down with my fangs against her throat. But the next second, Darren and Landon’s wolves came out, growling and forcefully throwing me off. When I regained my senses and looked up, all I saw was them surrounding Xandra with concern, not even sparing me a glance. After that day, Xandra “left the pack.” No one knew where she had gone, but they said she had “left to recover from her injuries.” But I hadn’t even touched a hair on her. They all believed that I had driven Xandra away, and after that day, for three years, Darren didn’t touch me. Landon became distant towards me as well. When three days ago Darren suddenly arranged this marking ceremony for me, I almost thought he changed his mind. I spent those three days preparing for it, carefully selecting every piece of jewelry, every vow, even wore the perfume he once said he liked. But today, Xandra returned, and without hesitation, Darren and Landon abandoned me once more. Malicious whispers from the crowd instantly rushed toward me like a wave. “Hannah’s just an orphan. Does she really think growing up with the Alpha means she can be the Luna?” “It’s all just her wishful thinking. Alpha Darren never loved her.” The silver moon gown I had carefully chosen made my skin look as pale as snow. Moonstone earrings—my mother’s gift—hung delicately by my ears, radiating the ancient grace of royal blood. And yet, I stood there like a discarded clown. Everyone in the pack knew what the Alpha’s absence from the marking ceremony meant—he was rejecting me as his Luna. Unable to face the mix of pity and ridicule in their eyes any longer, I turned and ran away in disgrace. I finally stumbled into an empty clearing, away from the pack. I could no longer pretend to be composed—tears streamed down my face, ruining the carefully applied makeup I had spent hours perfecting. I ripped off one of the moonstone earrings my mother had given me. A teardrop landed on the cold gem, and it shimmered faintly with moonlight, as if trying to comfort me. I whispered, “Mom… I regret it. I want to go home. I will marry the Lycan King of the Nightshade Kingdom.”

Three years ago, Mrs. Greene—the Luna Queen of the Moonflame Kingdom, and my biological mother—found me. She told me I was not just an ordinary she-wolf, but the long-lost princess of the Moonflame Kingdom, blessed with the pure blood of the Moon Goddess. “Will you come back with us, to the kingdom that is rightfully yours?” I was staying silent for a long time. That time, I had just turned eighteen. I had grown up in the Duskwood Pack, never knowing the so-called glory of kingdom. And what kingdom brought wasn’t just power and responsibility—it also meant an arranged marriage. When a daughter is born in the Moonflame Kingdom, she must marry into the Nightshade Kingdom to fulfill the ancient alliance. Nightshade—one of the most powerful kingdom in our world. Becoming their Luna Queen would mean having a status second only to the Lycan King himself. But back then, I rejected it without hesitation. I didn’t want to be a pawn traded for power. I didn’t want to be confined by fate. And most of all, I didn’t want to be apart from the two who meant everything to me—Darren and Landon. Mrs. Greene didn’t force me. Sadness flickered in her eyes, but she smiled gently and said, “we respect your decision, my princess.” Before she left, she added softly, “whenever you want to return home, the gates of Moonflame will always be open to you.” I thought I would never change my mind. Until today— I finally realized how foolish my choice was: The “love” I had fought so hard to protect… had never truly belonged to me. Darren didn’t choose me. Landon betrayed me. And somewhere along the way, I had forgotten who I really was. I’m not some pathetic orphan to be trampled on. I am the daughter of the Moonflame Kingdom. I’m the true princess, blessed by the Moon Goddess herself. I lowered my gaze to the moonstone earring resting in my palm, my fingers trembling as they curled around it, feeling something long-dormant within me begin to stir. Mrs. Greene had given it to me three years ago—an earring crafted from a rare communication stone. As long as I held it, it would form a direct link to the Lycan King of the Moonflame family. I drew in a shaky breath. “I accept the marriage alliance.” “I’m ready to return to the Moonflame Kingdom.” The stone shimmered with a soft lunar glow and let out a crisp chime. Silence followed for a few seconds. Then, a familiar voice—deeper and rougher than I remembered—echoed through. “Hannah… is that you?” It was my brother—Aaron Greene. Three years ago, he had still been a prince. Now, he had ascended the throne and become the new Lycan King of Moonflame Kingdom. “I heard what happened,” he said. His voice turned cold, sharp like a blade, each word laced with fury. “They dared to humiliate you at the marking ceremony?” His anger was almost tangible. “I’ll destroy that damned Duskwood Pack.” His protectiveness shattered the composure I had tried so hard to maintain. Tears welled up again, and I hurried to whisper, “they’re not worth your time, brother. I just need to pack my things tonight.” He went silent for a moment, as if he was struggling to contain his rage. Then, finally, his voice returned from the other side—low and steady. “Fine, I’ll bring you back tomorrow. The Moonflame family will always welcome you home, little princess.” Night fell, and I wandered back alone. With each step I took toward the Alpha House, my thoughts churned. What would I find when I walked through that door? How could I face Darren and Landon after everything? The path seemed longer tonight, the shadows around me darker. But I had no choice. I had made my decision. The house was dimly lit, the familiar shadows of the Alpha House casting eerie shapes along the walls. And then, a faint scent—struck my senses, and my wolf let out a warning growl. It wasn’t mine. Another she-wolf was here.

I strode into the living room, but froze instantly. It was Xandra. She was weakly leaning against Darren, her face pale, yet a faint, almost imperceptible smirk lingered on her lips. Darren, on the other hand, was gazing down at her with a tenderness I had never seen before, his fingers gently combing through her disheveled hair. He looked up and saw me, his gaze instantly turning cold. “You’re finally back.” His tone was like scolding a subordinate. “Because you drove Xandra out of the pack three years ago, she’s been left with chronic illness. As the future Luna, aren’t you supposed to show some basic care?” “Future Luna?” I scoffed, my nails digging deep into my palm. “When you abandoned me in front of the whole pack to take care of this sickly thing, I thought the title had already been given away.” Just then, hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway. Landon, carrying a vial of potion, rushed in and froze when he saw me. His gaze darted rapidly between me and Xandra, before finally settling on Darren. “The potion is ready,” he said, his voice tight. “The doctor said this will help.” Xandra suddenly broke into a violent cough, her delicate fingers clutching Darren’s shirt. Landon immediately stepped forward, expertly supporting her neck and bringing the vial of potion to her lips. Their careful movements were as if they were cradling something fragile and priceless. “Her ‘illness’ is so well-timed,” I said sarcastically. “Of course, it flares up on the very day of our marking ceremony.” “Enough!” Darren roared, cutting me off. “A marking ceremony being delayed for a few days is no big deal. Why are you still being so relentless? How could you be so heartless? Don’t you care about Xandra’s condition at all?” Before I could defend myself, he immediately issued an order, “she needs to rest now. From now on, you’ll sleep in the study.” “This is our room!” I heard my voice tremble. “You want me to give it up for such a…?” “Watch your words.” Darren suddenly unleashed his Alpha aura, and the air became thick with pressure. “It’s just a room. If you can’t even manage that…” He paused, and in that moment, Landon restrained my wrist. He had always stood by my side, but now looked at me with almost disgust in his eyes, “stop causing a scene, Hannah! Xandra isn’t well.” I felt dizzy. Three years ago, they had done the same thing, stepping in front of Xandra just as I was about to tear her throat out. “…Then I’ll have to reject you,” Darren finally said. Reject. That word felt like a blunt knife stabbing deep into my heart. Didn’t he know what kind of pain an Alpha’s rejection would cause to his mate? Of course he knew. He just didn’t care at all. We hadn’t even completed the marking ceremony yet, and just a threat from Darren had already caused excruciating pain. My wolf whimpered inside me, unable to understand why our mate would now abandon us. He seemed to sense it too. He raised his head and looked at me, but his expression remained cold. “You better not test my limits, Hannah. You’re just an orphan. If it weren’t for that stupid wolf of yours binding me to you, I wouldn’t want you as my mate at all.” My wolf howled inside me. How laughable. The two who had sworn to protect me forever—one was now threatening to sever our bond in the cruelest way possible, and the other didn’t even want to look at my eyes. In the years my biological parents couldn’t find me, I had stayed by Darren’s side. When I was fourteen, I protected him from other wolves’ attacks, and he cried, promising never to leave me. During his first heat at eighteen, he swore he would love only me for the rest of his life. I had stood by him as he grew from a little wolf into an Alpha, but I never imagined that those sweet words would now be twisted into blades aimed at me. “Fine.” I suddenly laughed, slowly backing away. “Then I wish your ‘patient’ a speedy recovery.” My abrupt change in attitude made Darren’s expression shift. He stood up from Xandra’s side, “I’ll bring you a blanket to the study. If you need anything else, just let me know.” I let out a cold laugh and silently thought to myself, I don’t need anything from you. Neither you nor your cheap sympathy. Without a word, I turned and walked into the study, unwilling to waste any more words with him. “I’m talking to you.” Darren furrowed his brow and followed me into the room. “Are you still sulking because of Xandra?” “No,” I quickly answered, not looking at him. “Can you stop making a scene?” Darren shoved me against the wall, growling, forcing me to look at him. “Ah!” Suddenly, Xandra’s gasp echoed from the living room. Darren froze for a moment, then immediately let me go and rushed out like a summoned dog. I let out a bitter laugh and collapsed onto the cold, hard sofa. All these years of silent devotion, and yet they meant less than a single whimper from that bitch. There was no need for me to stay here any longer. *** Just before dawn, I had already packed up all my belongings. To call it luggage would be generous—it was merely a few changes of clothes, the moonstone earrings my mother had given me, and the silver moon dress I hadn’t changed out of last night. I looked at myself in the mirror one last time. My eyes were still swollen, but there were no more tears. I splashed cold water on my face and forced a smile. As I opened the study door, the entire house was silent. Darren and Landon were probably still asleep, and Xandra—no doubt comfortably curled up in my bed, under my blanket, dreaming sweet dreams of replacing me. I moved quietly down the stairs, careful not to wake anyone. Not because I was afraid to face them, but because I refused to waste another drop of emotion on any of the three. But just as I reached the middle of the staircase, a sickly sweet voice called out behind me, “Leaving so early, Sis Hannah?” I spun around sharply. Xandra stood at the top of the stairs, looking down at me. She wore a sheer nightgown, her golden hair loose, her cheeks glowing—there was no trace of last night’s supposed sickness. “What’s wrong? Not pretending to be sick anymore?” I sneered. “Or does your ‘illness’ only flare up in front of Darren and Landon?” Xandra descended the stairs slowly, the corners of her lips curved into a victorious smile. “I just came to check on the abandoned future Luna.” She emphasized “future Luna” with a smug glint in her eyes, and it took everything in me to stop my wolf from clawing them out. I drew a deep breath to suppressed the urge, “that Luna title? I don’t care for it anymore.” “Really?” She stopped one step above me. “Then why do you reek of jealousy? I could smell it from all the way up there.” Her fingers lightly touched my wrist, but her grip was vice-like. “Just admit it, Hannah. You’re jealous. Jealous that Darren chose me over you—his childhood sweetheart.” I yanked my hand free. “Don’t touch me!” In that instant, a cunning glint flashed in Xandra’s eyes. She suddenly grabbed my arm and yanked me toward the edge of the staircase! My footing slipped. I lost balance and tumbled down the stairs, taking her with me. The floor below was cold and unforgiving. A sharp pain shot through my left arm, radiating throughout my body. Ouch! A muffled cry escaped my lips as I struggled to sit up. My right arm hung at an odd angle—clearly broken. Xandra lay not far from me, hair a little tousled, nightgown slightly askew, but her expression was calm, not even breathing hard. “What happened?!” Darren’s voice boomed from upstairs, followed by the sound of hurried footsteps. Xandra immediately began moaning in pain, while I bit down hard on my lower lip, refusing to make a sound. Darren and Landon appeared at the top of the stairs, their expressions changing the moment they saw us. “Xandra!” Darren rushed down and scooped her into his arms. “Are you alright?” Xandra nestled weakly against his chest, eyes brimming with tears. “I—I just wanted to make sure if Sis Hannah is okay… I didn’t think she hated me this much…” “That’s not what happened!” I tried to get up, but the pain in my arm left me helpless. “She fell on her own!” “Enough!” Darren roared, eyes blazing. “Xandra is still recovering, how dare you push her down the stairs?!” “I didn’t—” Smack! A sharp slap cut off my words. My head snapped to the side, pain blooming across my cheek like fire. The blow was so hard I tasted blood. I slowly turned back to face him, disbelief in my eyes. He… slapped me? For a bitch who was obviously acting, he actually slap me? Darren looked briefly shocked by his own action. He glanced at his hand, then at my swelling face, his brows furrowing. “Darren…” Landon spoke up from behind him, face full of conflicting emotions. “I’m fine…” Xandra coughed delicately, immediately drawing their attention back to her. “Don’t blame Sis Hannah, she must be sad for giving up her room for me yesterday…” Her timely interruption really did work. They rushed to comfort her, fussing over her as if she were made of glass. I sat just a few feet away—my arm broken, my cheek burning—not a single glance spared for me. It wasn’t until Xandra “weakly” announced she needed to rest that Landon finally noticed my injured arm. “Her arm…” his voice trembled. “Darren, her arm’s broken.” Darren’s face shifted. He finally looked down at me seriously, brows drawing tight. “Are you alright?” What a ridiculous question. My arm was obviously broken—and only now he noticed? I gritted my teeth and used my left hand to push myself up against the wall. Every movement sent fresh waves of pain through me, but it was nothing compared to what I felt inside. “Darren,” I stared into his eyes, my voice shaking from both pain and fury, “I reject you as my mate.” The words struck like thunder. Darren and Landon froze, and even Xandra, who was halfway pretending to go upstairs, stopped in her tracks. “What did you say?” Darren’s voice was low and dangerous. “You heard me,” I said, each word sharp and steady. “I, Hannah Greene, officially reject you, Darren Shaw, as my mate.”

  • Five years wasted

I’ve been married to my husband for five Christmases now. After being away on business for half a Christmas, my husband Frank Roberts brought his first love, Sarah Jensen, back home. Sarah was already more than three months pregnant. Frank said her life was difficult and wanted her to stay at our house temporarily. I refused. But Frank accused me of being unreasonable. He spoke to me with disgust in his voice, seemingly forgetting that this mansion belonged to me before our marriage. His family had been spending my money all along. This time, I decided to cancel all living allowances for them. I smiled as I called my assistant, saying, “Draft divorce papers immediately. He actually dared to bring his mistress home openly.” Knowing Frank was returning today, I had arranged all the gifts I’d bought for him from various places over the past half-Christmas early in the morning, and instructed our housekeeper Janet Hall to prepare a lavish meal. At that moment, the front door opened. Frank appeared before my eyes with his arm around his first love. I was utterly stunned. Sarah walked toward me with a smile, gently caressing her belly as she greeted me: “Zoey, long time no see.” Fury burned within me as I stared at her slightly swollen abdomen. Sarah seemed to notice my change in mood and quickly came to my side, taking my hand and saying, “Zoey, please don’t get upset. This is all my fault. Don’t blame Frank.” Sarah’s simple statement left me speechless. I hadn’t asked anything yet, but Sarah had already confessed everything. Frank stood nearby, intently watching my expression, poised to rush over and protect Sarah at any moment. I clenched my fists and glared at Frank, asking, “Aren’t you going to explain yourself?” He sighed, took Sarah’s hand, and said softly, “Let me show you to a room first. I’ll handle all this.” Frank’s gentle tone surprised me. In our five Christmases of marriage, Frank had never spoken to me with such tenderness. Under my watchful gaze, he carefully helped Sarah upstairs. The driver brought in three suitcases. Sarah was evidently planning to settle in permanently. Though she appeared even healthier than me, Frank was protecting her with extraordinary care. I sat on the sofa, waiting for Frank to give me an explanation. Just as I was about to rush upstairs after hearing the laughter from above, the doorbell rang. With a sudden interruption, Frank’s parents pushed the door open with displeasure, ignored me completely, and hurried upstairs. I followed them up. Frank held their hands and said sincerely, “I didn’t mean to hide this from you. Sarah’s progesterone levels were unstable in the early stages. I was afraid something might happen to her. “I hope you understand. Sarah and I love each other. The baby in her belly is your grandchild after all. Please don’t blame her.” I reflected on our five Christmases of marriage—whenever I disagreed with his mother Alyssa Davis, he would say she was getting old and ask me to be more understanding of her, never once taking my side. I always thought that was just his personality, until today when I saw him defending Sarah at every turn, I realized I had misunderstood all along. Sarah held Alyssa’s hand and added, “I didn’t intentionally try to ruin Frank’s marriage. We truly love each other. I hope you can understand.” Alyssa’s expression softened as she looked at me standing in the doorway. I knew she was hesitating. For five Christmases, I had given her a monthly allowance. She knew Sarah wasn’t nearly as wealthy as I was. I was deeply disappointed. Frank, as my husband, didn’t inform me about this beforehand, but instead humiliated me in front of everyone. His treatment of me deeply wounded my self-esteem. Seeing everyone’s silence, Sarah suddenly began to sob. She said, “The child in my womb is innocent, and I will give birth to him no matter what. “You can say whatever you want about me, but I hope my child won’t be harmed.” Sarah looked pitiful as tears streamed down her face. Frank tenderly wiped away her tears with his thumb, his face contorted with concern as he said with displeasure, “Mom, answer her quickly. Pregnant women need to maintain emotional stability.” Frank’s parents had been pressuring us to have children immediately after our wedding. Because I never got pregnant, they had been complaining behind my back. I knew all about it. Frank’s father, Brian Roberts, who had been silent until now, said, “After all, Sarah is carrying a descendant of the Roberts family. Let’s all be patient for these few months.” Hearing his words, everyone looked at me. They stood together in solidarity. I felt like I was the outsider. I let out a cold laugh and said, “Doesn’t anyone want to ask for my opinion?” Seeing my displeasure, Frank angrily positioned himself in front of Sarah’s face and confronted me: “Zoey, what do you mean? “I’ve already told you everything to your face, what else do you want to know?” I couldn’t help but scoff. My husband had been away on business for half a Christmas, and upon his return, he brought me such a “wonderful surprise”—instead of explaining, he was blaming me. Seeing my silence, Sarah began to cry again, clutching Frank’s hand and sobbing, “Frank, Zoey is angry. I should leave.” Alyssa immediately responded with displeasure: “You’re carrying our grandchild. You can’t leave.” Frank glared at me and said, “You’ve scared Sarah. Apologize. “After all, Sarah is carrying my child. If you have any objections, you can only express them to me in private. I will not allow you to hurt her.” Sarah urgently held Frank’s hand and said, “No, Frank. I don’t want you to be upset either. It would break my heart.” Sarah’s brief statement touched Frank deeply. Brian and Alyssa nodded with approval, clearly satisfied with Sarah. I couldn’t take it anymore and turned to leave.

I locked myself in the master bedroom for the entire morning without coming out. The laughter from the living room was particularly grating. In the afternoon, Janet came in to tell me that Sarah had wanted to stay in my master bedroom, but Alyssa had stopped her. “She said that since you’re from the Moore family, they still need your help and can’t completely anger you. She also said…” Janet, who had grown up with me, knew my temperament, so she paused here to observe my expression. Seeing that I didn’t interrupt her, she continued, “She also said that you would pay for all her expenses after she gets pregnant. Since you can’t have children anyway, you might as well get involved and experience it.” I asked with displeasure, “Did they say anything else?” Janet added, “They said that since you don’t have children, all your assets will belong to this child in the future…” I couldn’t help but laugh. This family was truly devious. Although I was furious, I didn’t show it. I knew I needed to be patient. Janet asked me what to do next, and I smiled, telling her to carry on as usual. She brought me lunch. After eating, I sat by the bedroom window looking down. At that moment, Frank was taking Sarah out. Five years ago, around Christmas, I pleaded tearfully in front of my parents, Xavier Moore and Anne Mitchell, insisting on marrying Frank. By then, they already had someone in mind for me—the only son of the Brown family. The Brown family held a high position in Houston. Owen Brown and I had been neighbors since childhood. Xavier and Anne always liked him and often invited him to our house for dinner. But I had never been interested in Owen. After meeting Frank, I only loved him and refused to marry Owen. I always told my parents that I should decide my own marriage, saying that Owen surely didn’t like me either. But Xavier and Anne told me that if Owen wasn’t interested in me, he wouldn’t have gone out to dinner with me so many times. In truth, I didn’t care whether Owen was interested in me or not. The day I met Frank was at the club recruitment fair on the first day of college. We reached for the same registration form almost simultaneously. He apologized very politely and graciously gave me the form. That day, he wore a gray tracksuit, was very tall, and looked incredibly handsome when he smiled. Frank had beautiful hands. I liked them very much. That unexpected encounter made me memorize his phone number. After we parted, I added his contact information. I sent him a message. He replied without hesitation: “Miss Moore, I’ve heard so much about you.” From that day on, I unconsciously hoped to run into Frank on the street, and even tried desperately to join his club just to have more contact with him. I began to follow him. After we married, Frank proactively offered to help me manage the company, allowing me to live freely. I didn’t refuse him, believing that couples should strive together. Frank’s family background was quite ordinary. I thought that since he wanted to make a name for himself in business, I should help him. My parents and friends all advised me to be cautious. After all, before our marriage, Xavier and Anne had told me that Frank wasn’t marrying me purely out of love; he was interested in my family’s wealth. I said I didn’t care about those things, as long as he truly loved me. After we got married, Frank’s parents began living the good life. They quit their factory jobs and lived very comfortably on the monthly allowance Frank gave them. They also spread the word everywhere that Frank was now a CEO, causing many relatives of the Roberts family to come to Frank for help. Those relatives even asked Frank to arrange their children’s marriages, demanding that he help them choose prominent figures in Houston as spouses for their children. Regarding this situation, I wasn’t anxious. I thought my family had money, so helping them wouldn’t be a problem. Frank didn’t know that on the eve of our engagement, Owen had come to see me privately and given me a share transfer agreement. He wanted me to sign it. He said if one day my marriage wasn’t happy, he hoped I would have enough leverage to leave Frank. He also earnestly told me, “Besides having the support of the Moore family, you also have me. If he ever hurts you, I won’t let him get away with it!” I always believed in my judgment and trusted that Frank wouldn’t betray me. Looking back now, all the advice given to me was reasonable, but I had lost my rationality at the time. After our marriage, even though I complied with Frank in everything, he still had various complaints about me, criticizing me for not knowing how to do housework, having a bad temper, and not being as virtuous as the wives of his other friends. I loved him so much then that I would even change my habits for him. He wanted to see me whenever he came home, so I tried my best to wait for him at home and studied recipes to cook delicious meals for him. My friend Karen Clark said I had completely changed after marriage, saying she couldn’t believe that someone who loved shopping the most would be willing to change for a man. Frank’s parents were very satisfied with me. During our family gatherings, his relatives would praise me for being kind. Perhaps the only one in the family who was dissatisfied with me was Frank. I always thought I wasn’t doing well enough, but now I realize he was merely exploiting me for his own gain, without a shred of genuine love.

No one asked for my opinion before settling Sarah in my home. That evening, Sarah came to call me for dinner. After I refused her three times, she began crying outside my door. Her sobs grew louder, attracting Frank’s attention. She said, “Zoey seems to have a big problem with me. I invited her to dinner, but she yelled at me.” I opened the door irritably and stared at Sarah’s pitiful expression. Frank comforted her tenderly, “Don’t cry. I’ll handle this.” Sarah promptly pulled a hairpin from her pocket and offered it to me. “Zoey, I made this myself. Please accept it. Can we get along from now on?” I immediately cut her off, “Not possible. Stop putting on this act.” Sarah sadly buried her face in Frank’s chest. Frank was so angry he slapped me across the face. He said, “Zoey, I’ve already warned you. Sarah is pregnant and needs emotional stability. You heartless woman, are you trying to upset her to death?” Frank looked at me with such fury, as if I were some unforgivable criminal. His behavior destroyed any remaining affection I had for him. I rushed forward and slapped Frank twice with all my strength. Frank’s cheeks instantly swelled red. He said in disbelief, “Zoey, have you lost your mind? How dare you hit me!” Looking at my own swollen right hand, I laughed coldly, “You hit me first, so why are you angry now? I’m the heir to the Moore family fortune. Don’t think you can bully me.” Alyssa heard the commotion and hurried over to mediate, “Zoey, Frank was just momentarily upset. Please don’t be angry.” Seeing that I remained expressionless and silent, she quickly tugged at Frank’s sleeve and winked at him. This was the only time Frank ever hit me. I could tell he was somewhat nervous about it. But perhaps because Sarah was present, or perhaps due to male pride, Frank refused to apologize to me. “Frank!” Alyssa shouted. She knew that if we continued this standoff, Frank would be the one to lose. He said, “I admit I lost my temper just now, but if you had simply come down with Sarah for dinner, none of this would have happened.” His words weren’t an apology at all—he was blaming me. I was heartbroken and didn’t go down for dinner that night. I avoided them for the rest of the evening. Janet brought dinner up to my room. The next day, I slept until noon. When I saw them preparing for lunch, I walked out without looking back. My assistant informed me that everyone was gossiping about us since Frank had returned with a pregnant woman after a half-month business trip. Just half an hour after I left, I received a message from Frank. He asked me to bring back two boxes of strawberries for Sarah when I returned, and preferably some jewelry as an apology for upsetting her yesterday. I found his request ridiculous. I replied: [Buy them yourself.] Shortly after, Janet informed me that Sarah had eaten all the fruit Anne had just sent me, claiming it was good for her unborn child. I asked, “What did they say about it?” Janet angrily told me, “Frank and the others were delighted, saying she could have whatever she wanted.” Anne arranged for these fruit deliveries every three months specifically for me to ensure I got enough vitamins. But they had taken advantage of Anne’s kindness. Even the usually rational Alyssa tacitly approved of Sarah’s behavior. I refused to tolerate them any longer. Since they treated me this way, I had to strike back. I went directly to the company and called a meeting with the executives. After getting updated on recent developments, I reorganized the work assignments and notified all employees. I announced, “Effective immediately, I am returning to Moore Group. From today onward, Frank is forbidden from setting foot in Moore Group!”

I, Katrina Jennings, upon learning this news, gave her five million dollars and wished her and Kevin a long-lasting relationship. Amanda thought I had lost my mind, but only I knew that once I got rid of Kevin, I could have the entire family fortune to myself. I took in Amanda after her family went bankrupt, never expecting she would seduce my fiancé. Amanda’s family was once wealthy; she spent money like water, loved shopping and frequenting bars. She could have continued living that way, but her family’s bankruptcy left her drowning in debt overnight. My mother, Helena Morris, took pity on her niece, helped pay off her family’s debts, and invited her to live with us. During this time, Amanda seduced Kevin. I’m not a fool—even though they tried to hide their affair, my feminine intuition told me something was wrong. I started paying attention to their interactions and soon discovered the truth. They often got intimate when I wasn’t around. After finding out, I didn’t get angry but pretended not to know. I wanted to see how these two had gotten together in the first place. Amanda was raised in a wealthy family, while Kevin was just squandering my family’s money. I couldn’t understand how they ended up together. My parents were abroad while I stayed in the country. Amanda and I lived together in the mansion, along with Kevin, who had been my betrothed since childhood. Actually, my original fiancé wasn’t him but his brother, Daniel Woodson. However, according to Helena, Daniel left the Woodson family at a young age, so I had to get engaged to Kevin instead. The Woodson family had already fallen from grace when I was little, but my parents weren’t the type to break promises for profit. To honor the older generation’s commitment, they never dissolved the engagement between our families. After college graduation, Kevin came to Seattle where I lived, and moved in with me under the pretext of having nowhere to stay. It was then that I saw him for who he truly was. He was good-looking with decent manners, highly educated with an impressive resume. Anyone seeing him driving a BMW and living in a mansion would think he was successful. In reality, even his college tuition was funded by my family, the BMW was a gift from my father, and the mansion was mine. Yet he loved showing these off. I remember once when he introduced me to his college friends, I discovered he had been portraying himself as a rich heir. Considering our engagement, I spared his pride and didn’t expose him. But I never imagined he would use this fake rich persona, created with my family’s money, to make Amanda believe he was the one with real wealth. Helena and Teddy Morris weren’t close. Teddy had always thought highly of himself and didn’t know the extent of my parents’ overseas businesses, so Amanda was unaware too. From my observation, Amanda seduced Kevin because she mistakenly believed I was wealthy because of him. After discovering their affair, I initially planned to pretend ignorance until I gathered enough evidence to break off the engagement with Kevin. However, they were so careless in hiding their disgraceful behavior that I caught them in the act. When I opened the door, I never expected that in less than ten minutes after I’d left, Amanda and Kevin would already be having sex. When I discovered this scene, they seemed so engrossed that I felt awkward interrupting. Only after I coughed twice did they realize my presence. Amanda and Kevin frantically covered themselves with clothes. I smiled awkwardly, thinking it was pointless for them to hide after I’d already seen everything. Before I could speak, Amanda burst into tears while Kevin panicked. “Katrina, Kevin and I are truly in love. I’m sorry, I…” Amanda said.

I ignored her words and instead watched Kevin’s reaction. I noticed he was staring at me intently, seemingly afraid of me. I smiled slightly and interrupted Amanda mid-sentence. “That’s enough.” I walked over to the two of them. Initially, I had planned to collect evidence to show my parents, to give them an explanation, but now it seemed unnecessary. I took out my phone and snapped a photo of the two of them. They realized I was taking a picture and hurriedly moved apart, but it was too late. I had already gotten what I wanted. Satisfied, I looked at the photo on my phone and sent it directly to my family’s group chat. This would definitely end the engagement. I felt happy, and even looking at those two disgusting people on the bed didn’t make me as angry anymore. I took a bank card from my purse and tossed it onto the bed. “There’s five million dollars in this card…” Before I could finish, Amanda interrupted me, crying. “Katrina, I will never leave Kevin. We love each other, we…” Listening to her, I was shocked. I never thought there were people in this world who truly didn’t care about money. Kevin quickly cut her off. “Katrina, let me explain…” “No need. There’s five million dollars in the card. Consider it a wedding gift. Whatever happens to you two from now on has nothing to do with me,” I said. After I spoke, Amanda looked at me in disbelief. She probably thought I’d lost my mind. Kevin had put on such a good act that anyone would think I was the one who married up. But Kevin’s expression wasn’t good. He knew very well that he was the parasite, but with Amanda present, Kevin wouldn’t try to sweet-talk me now for the sake of his meal ticket. This suited me perfectly. Now I had a solid reason to break off our engagement. “Katrina… you don’t need to do this. Five million dollars must be a lot even for you. Since it’s what Kevin has given you before, you should keep it.” Amanda’s triumphant smirk made my blood boil, but to reassure her further, I pretended to be indifferent and said with a hint of sadness: “All these years, I’ve been wholeheartedly devoted to Kevin. Even though it ends like this, take the five million dollars as my blessing to you both.” I put on a deeply wronged expression. My apparent vulnerability must have given Amanda, who was usually dependent on others, a sense of satisfaction. She actually went up and hugged Kevin. Kevin was displeased, I could tell. He neither wanted to lose Amanda, this gentle, dependent woman, nor me, his actual meal ticket. But since he accepted Amanda’s embrace, I felt there was no point in staying any longer, so I turned to leave. Even as I left, Amanda remained smug. She surely thought she’d struck gold, not knowing that everything Kevin had came from my family. I had been dreading being tied to Kevin for life, but Amanda had unexpectedly solved my problem. After leaving the villa, I felt exceptionally happy. Meanwhile, my family’s group chat was already filled with shocked messages. To make the charade complete, I’d let Kevin and Amanda stay in the villa for a few days. After the engagement was officially broken off, I would take back everything that belonged to me.

My parents are abroad with a time difference, so they probably haven’t seen my message in the family group chat yet. When they find out, they’ll definitely be furious. They thought so highly of Kevin, never imagining he would turn out to be such a scumbag. Sure enough, as soon as my parents saw the message, they immediately called me on video. After I explained the situation to them, Helena looked very displeased. After all, she was the one who suggested Amanda and I live together, and she never expected Amanda would hook up with my fiancé. I comforted Helena, and she seemed to feel a little better. As for my father, he always knew I wanted to break off the engagement with Kevin. In the past, he would have scolded me for the sake of the so-called friendship between our elders, but now that I had evidence, he couldn’t say much. He just told me he would terminate the engagement as soon as possible. I thought everything would go according to plan, but I didn’t expect Amanda would catch on. On the fifth day after I discovered their affair, Amanda showed up at my door. By then, I had already broken off my engagement with Kevin, but I hadn’t gone to reclaim the villa yet, just to let Amanda, the sucker who picked up after me, feel secure. Who knew Kevin would be so stupid that she would figure it out? When Amanda confronted me, she looked like she wanted to kill me, with fire in her eyes. “Katrina, you’re disgusting. To get rid of this gold digger, you pushed him onto me,” Amanda was seething with hatred. It made sense—whenever Kevin showed off his wealth to her while I was present, I never exposed him. It wasn’t to mislead her, but because Kevin was my fiancé, and I didn’t want to emasculate him. Who would have thought that foolish Amanda would go after him? I smiled faintly. I had already achieved my goal and didn’t want to say much to the person in front of me. “Amanda, you slept with my fiancé, and somehow that’s my fault?” Whether my words stung her or not, her face instantly darkened, and her next words were even more venomous. “Katrina! You bitch, dumping this gold digger on me. No way! I want compensation!” Hearing the seemingly innocent Amanda speak so crudely, I frowned in displeasure, particularly disliking her demand for compensation. I took a sip of coffee and replied calmly, “Back then, I already gave you five million dollars. I have nothing more to give.” At the time, Amanda had looked down on the five million I gave her. She must have thought she had landed a wealthy man. How could she have known that her so-called wealthy man was spending my family’s money? Obviously, my words triggered Amanda. She exclaimed heatedly, “Katrina! I’m telling you, if you don’t compensate me, I’ll destroy your reputation completely, do you understand?” She practically shouted these words, while I remained calm, not understanding how someone who seduced another’s fiancé could be so self-righteous. But later I understood why she was so confident at that time. I put down my cup and looked coldly at the agitated Amanda in front of me. “Amanda, I’d like to see how you plan to ruin my reputation. Remember, you’re the one who hooked up with my fiancé, not the other way around.” This time my words cut deep. In a fit of rage, she flipped over my table, grabbed the Chanel bag I had bought her, and stormed out furiously. Before leaving, she didn’t forget to make one last threat: “Katrina, just you wait. I’ll make sure your reputation is utterly destroyed.”

  • Leave the jerk

On my thirtieth birthday, my husband Alan Tales’s childhood sweetheart Gina Huston showed up at our door and fell to her knees in front of everyone, begging me to let them be together. Gina, with tears streaming down her face, said, “Please let us be together. I’m willing to be the mistress without any status.” Alan put his arm around her and angrily said, “Vivian, don’t be so difficult. Gina is pregnant with my child.” Everyone around was ready to watch me make a fool of myself, but they had no idea that I had orchestrated the whole thing. I pulled out the pregnant women I had hidden in the closet and said, “If she’s the mistress, then what are they?” Apart from two who were in the hospital giving birth, there were exactly five pregnant women hidden in the closet. At that moment, Gina’s face gradually contorted, while I was about to burst into laughter at the ridiculous scene. Alan now collects garbage at the dump. A month later, Alan’s father Peter Tales returned from vacation and, upon learning that Alan was collecting garbage, raised his hand to slap me. I caught his hand mid-air, a mocking smile playing at the corner of my lips. I said, “Alan cheated on me, and I’ve already divorced him. He chose to collect garbage himself, so why are you trying to hit me? I never forced him to do that.” When Alan and I divorced, he was deeply in debt, and his bar had gone bankrupt. Afterward, he worked as a salesman, waiter, and spaghetti restaurant employee, until he finally realized that garbage collection suited him better. Now he sleeps under a bridge at night, spending all his earnings on his mistresses. Peter, furious, said, “If you weren’t barren, my son wouldn’t have gone looking for other women. If he hadn’t looked elsewhere, you two wouldn’t have divorced. You’re like a hen that doesn’t lay eggs.” I smirked coldly, because Alan had said the same thing when he cheated. He blamed his infidelity on my failure to get pregnant. Like father, like son—both scoundrels. Men like to take the offensive when they make mistakes, seizing control of the narrative. They seize opportunities to brainwash women, steering them toward self-blame. When a man betrays a woman, it’s because she’s not gentle enough, not attentive enough, not pretty enough, not virtuous enough, and hasn’t given him a son. As Peter continued to insult me, I simply closed the door and called security to remove him. Two hours later, my assistant Max Duncan called to inform me that Peter had broken into the lock of another villa and brazenly moved in with Gina. I clicked my tongue. Their occupation of the house wouldn’t last forever. I touched the top-grade emerald bracelet on my wrist and smiled disdainfully. Just wait. The real show was yet to come.

Gina met Alan at his bar, and it was said they fell in love at first sight, sleeping together that very night. There aren’t really that many cases of love at first sight—it’s just spring arriving and animals entering their mating season. On the night Alan decided to go dumpster diving, Gina went into premature labor with a baby boy, just nine months along. Now she and her son have brazenly moved into my other villa. Peter was grinning from ear to ear at the grandson he had longed for. Gina, holding the baby, complained to Peter about me, “Alan went dumpster diving, and Vivian wouldn’t even give me a place to stay. “She forced me and my baby to stay in the hospital. “I was carrying Alan’s child, and she was so heartless.” As she spoke, she made sure to wipe away tears. Peter slammed his fist on the table, his expression furious. “That venomous woman! She can’t have children herself, so she wants to harm you. I’ll go see her tomorrow and make her transfer the house to you.” A triumphant smile flashed across Gina’s face before she quickly resumed her fragile act. “What if Vivian refuses?” Peter, with a dismissive snort like slurping spaghetti, said, “She wouldn’t dare. If she doesn’t give you the house, I’ll make such a scene that she’ll have no choice but to agree.” He placed his hand on Gina’s shoulder, his eyes leering. “Why don’t we go to my room and chat for a bit?” Gina smiled awkwardly but eventually agreed. I watched the screen, fighting back laughter. What a hypocritical family indeed. Gina wanted to use Peter to get the house. Peter lusted after Gina’s beauty, not even mentioning Alan’s dumpster diving anymore. This family was utterly morally bankrupt. Half an hour later, Peter brought Gina to my doorstep. I shook my head. Peter’s sexual stamina was remarkably brief—probably setting some kind of world record for shortness. Peter and Gina stormed in with aggressive demands, practically foaming at the mouth for what they claimed was Alan’s rightful property. “My son worked two holiday shifts, so you need to return his wages. Plus, you need to give Gina a house and me $5 million for retirement,” he said. I was utterly dumbfounded. Alan did work—he ran a bar. I provided the money for his bar, and I covered the initial $500,000 loss. Even when the bar started making profits, Alan never gave me a penny. Instead, he constantly found excuses to ask me for money. All of Alan’s money went to his lovers. I gave him $4 million in total, yet he remained unsatisfied. To get my company, he even conspired with others to drug me with aphrodisiacs. He was truly something else. I handed Peter a bank card. “There’s $200,000 in it. Use this for now. The company has been losing some money lately. When things improve, I’ll give you more.” Peter and Gina were delighted to get money so easily, their eyes practically gleaming with greed. Then Peter took the money and left with Gina, but not before threatening me, “Give me the rest of the money soon, or you’ll regret it.” Peter loved gambling, and Gina loved buying luxury handbags. Without a doubt, they would certainly be back for more money before long.

I started my business at twenty and achieved success by twenty-five. I was tall, well-educated, and quite attractive. At twenty-six, my mother Jessica Blunt began pressuring me relentlessly to get married. By twenty-nine, Jessica arranged a blind date for me with Alan. I agreed without hesitation, simply wanting to escape Jessica’s marriage pressure. Who I married didn’t matter to me at all. Jessica said Alan’s education and appearance matched well with mine, though his financial situation was somewhat lacking. His redeeming quality was his honesty—he supposedly wouldn’t cheat. I couldn’t help but scoff at that. This so-called “honest man” conspired with Peter to poison my food. As for his faithfulness, the truth was that Alan had more than one mistress. After dating Alan for just one month, we rushed into marriage. After the wedding, Peter constantly urged me to have children, but my company was in a growth phase during these past Christmas seasons, and I couldn’t spare time for pregnancy. Alan and I agreed to wait two Christmas seasons before having children. He readily agreed, but Peter stood nearby, shifting between feminine and masculine energies, saying sarcastically: “Women have a harder time conceiving and giving birth when their Christmas age increases. Better to have children sooner.” He would constantly mutter in my presence: “Where’s that grandson of mine, hmm?” “Ah, the neighbor’s grandson started walking today.” “The hen didn’t lay eggs again today. How annoying.” I despised meddlesome people, so I suggested that Peter move to the villa next door. Alan promised to persuade Peter to complain about me less. Afterward, every few days, Alan would take Peter out. When they returned, Peter always walked with his back straight and a spring in his step. From that time on, a thermal food container appeared in our home, and the frequency of corn chowder being prepared increased. At first, there was just one extra thermal container, but over time the number increased until it eventually stabilized at eight. The chicken in the corn chowder served to me also gradually disappeared. Peter must have confirmed that all of Alan’s mistresses were pregnant with boys. Peter, who never cooked before, began preparing meals himself, making food every day and delivering it to my office on time. Just because I wanted to delay having children for two Christmas seasons, they actually poisoned my food, with the intention of killing me. I discovered Alan’s affair two months ago. One day after work, my friend invited me to a three-Michelin-star restaurant. Alan, who had claimed just moments earlier to be working at a bar, suddenly appeared at that restaurant. He was looking longingly at the woman across from him, pulling out a gift box. “Linda, tonight with me…” he stopped mid-sentence, a sleazy smile spreading across his face. Linda Spaghetti had beautiful features and a tall, slender figure. She looked at him haughtily and said, “Beg me.” Without hesitation, Alan immediately started begging. “Please, please.” He kept pleading with Linda to give him a chance to spend the night with her, almost dropping to his knees. Eventually, Alan managed to make the woman burst into laughter. I was shocked to discover that my husband Alan wasn’t just stealing my money—he was also completely subservient to other women. It seemed clear that Alan must have other mistresses as well. After returning home that day, I instructed Max to investigate Alan. The results were alarming. Alan had numerous affairs even before marrying me. When we first started dating, he probably feared I would find out, so he temporarily cut ties with his lovers. After marrying me, he became shamelessly reckless with my money, seeking pleasure everywhere. I had been deceived all along. I gave him everything he wanted, but I never expected such ingratitude. I’m usually tied up with work at the company and travel frequently, so I spend very little time with Alan. I had a prenuptial agreement drawn up to protect my assets, so after divorce, Alan wouldn’t get a penny of my property. I had intended to just let him go, but I couldn’t tolerate him not only spending my money on women but also trying to poison me. I had Max install surveillance cameras in all my houses. I know their every move. I had some free time today, so I was drinking coffee at the company when Alan’s message popped up on my phone. Alan usually talks too much, which is why I normally have Max check his messages and summarize the important points for me. Today, Max wasn’t around, and I had time to spare, so I casually opened the chat. Alan: [Honey, what did you have for dinner tonight?] Vivian: [Wagyu steak] Alan: [So luxurious! How much did that cost?] I didn’t quite understand what he was getting at. Vivian: [Around two thousand dollars.] He replied with a helpless emoji. Alan: [Honey, as long as you’re happy, but you should still save when you can. I’m not saying you should deprive yourself. Eat what you want.] Alan: [After all, my Honey comes first.] He hadn’t spent a penny, yet he was talking as if he’d spent tens of thousands of dollars. I realized he was trying to gaslight me. But he wasn’t successful. What a useless man. A proper attempt at gaslighting should at least make someone feel a little guilty, but his chat just made me want to curse at him. Now I understand how much Max has suffered. No wonder he looks like he’s facing execution every time he checks these messages. I decided to give him a raise. After reading the messages, I had no intention of responding to Alan. Let the fool talk to himself. My phone vibrated, and I received photos from an unknown number. In the photos, a woman was nestled in Alan’s arms, looking coy, accompanied by a long text describing her loving daily life with Alan. Max had shown me her profile before. Her name was Gina, the most favored among my husband’s many lovers. Her looks weren’t exceptional, but she excelled at flattery, acting cute, and having that youthful innocence men seem to love. She had a delicate, fluid charm about her, speaking in a soft, fragile voice. Alan’s greatest skill wasn’t juggling multiple women, but making each of them believe she was the official girlfriend. Gina was the first and only one who knew about my existence. The fact that she sent provocative photos as soon as she learned about me showed how desperately she wanted to replace me. Her ambition to take my place was pathetically obvious. On the screen, Gina was sitting on my husband’s lap, speaking in a sweet voice. “Alan, I want a handbag.” Then she planted several kisses on his face. Alan clearly fell for this act, agreeing without hesitation. Not long after, he sent me another message. Alan: [Honey, I haven’t eaten yet] Accompanied by pitiful and money-begging emojis. He was blatantly asking me for money. He wanted to pamper his lover but expected me to foot the bill. My blood boiled at his audacity. If I hadn’t known about this affair, I would have given him the money without question, but now there was absolutely no way I would. Vivian: [How much money do you have left in your account?] He replied instantly. Alan: [Ten thousand dollars] Vivian: [Transfer it to me] The next second, I received a transfer of ten thousand dollars on my phone. There had been a few times when I urgently needed money and asked him to transfer me several tens of thousands, which I returned within minutes, always paying back three or four times more. So he probably thought this was another such occasion. Alan transferred the money promptly, likely sitting there smugly waiting for me to send him money back. Vivian: [I’ve taken the money as a lesson for you going hungry. Let’s see if you dare skip meals again.] Alan panicked and immediately sent questioning messages. Alan: [What do you mean? You’re not returning it?] Alan: [You’re so rich, why do you need my money?] Alan: [Honey. You’re going too far. I’m broke, I can’t even afford food now.] Alan: [Don’t take my money!] Alan: [I hate you, Honey. If you keep this up, I’ll stop talking to you.] *** I shot him a scathing reply and couldn’t be bothered to respond further. I opened the surveillance feed and saw Alan fuming after not getting his money back and instead losing ten thousand dollars to me. Gina, unaware of the situation, continued to act coy beside him. She leaned softly against Alan’s shoulder, gently swaying his arm while speaking in a sweet, coquettish voice, “Alan, didn’t you just promise to buy me a bag? Let’s go now.” Alan looked embarrassed. “Can we go next time?” Gina was immediately displeased. “Why? Why next time? Why not today?” Her tone completely lost its previous sweetness, replaced by aggressive demanding. I smirked. Alan was broke, obviously unable to buy her a bag. Alan couldn’t take it anymore and snapped at her. Gina instantly burst into tears, crying so pitifully that Alan’s heart softened immediately, and he began coaxing her gently. If she was this upset just because she didn’t get a bag, she would surely make an even bigger scene if he consistently had no money to spend on her. That evening, Alan immediately asked me for the ten thousand dollars back. My heart sank. In our two years of marriage, I had never taken a penny from him, and often gave him money instead. He took that money to find mistresses, buying them watches, bags, and gold bracelets. For me, he bought paper watches, paper bags, and paper bracelets, claiming he made them himself for sentimental value. Later I discovered these items were worth just over ten dollars each. Two weeks after discovering Alan’s affair, I found out that Peter was also seeing women on the side. Peter also liked bringing women to my villa, and several times even ran into Alan there. These father and son could have gotten hotel rooms, but for some reason insisted on using my villa. I provided Peter’s living expenses. After discovering his affairs, I promptly reduced his monthly allowance from one hundred thousand dollars to one thousand dollars, claiming I was short on cash lately. Going from a luxurious lifestyle to poverty would make anyone unhappy. Without money, he certainly couldn’t live it up anymore. Following the cut to Peter’s allowance, he was furious and showed up at my company the next day with a group of relatives to make a scene. They berated me for being heartless and demanded I give Peter his hundred thousand dollar allowance. Peter even gave an Oscar-worthy performance, crying as he clutched the receptionist, describing how unfilial I was. He claimed he was old with no money, forced to live in poverty while I earned money but wouldn’t share it with him. He said I carried a hundred-thousand-dollar bag while he ate meals worth just a few dollars, scrambling for discounted food every night. When the weather turned cold, I supposedly wouldn’t even buy him a blanket, and he was still wearing summer slippers. Peter portrayed himself as utterly pitiful. I could see these people were purely there to cause trouble. I stayed in my office without going out—if I had, they would have likely tried to bleed me dry. I called security: “I don’t know these people. Remove them.” Peter and his group were carried out like pigs. Feeling embarrassed, they slunk away. After work, instead of going home, I went to stay at a house I’d recently purchased. Alan called: “Honey, why aren’t you home yet? I want to go eat steak with you.” In our two years of marriage, this was the first time he’d called in the evening asking when I’d be home. His goal wasn’t to check on me, but to have me foot the bill for his steak dinner. I coldly replied, “I bought another house and won’t be coming back for a while.” Peter, who was nearby, became furious and grabbed Alan’s phone. “Didn’t you say you were short on cash lately? Then how do you have money to buy a house but not enough for my living expenses? You’re just unfilial, a miser, stingy!” I laughed. This father and son spent my money on other women, yet had the audacity to say such things. “Yes, I’m unfilial. Yes, I’m a miser. Yes, I’m stingy,” I said. They couldn’t do anything to me anyway. Peter was fuming, hurling insults into the phone. I grew tired of listening and simply hung up. Alan kept texting, asking why I wouldn’t come home and why I was angry. I ignored him completely. I checked the home security cameras to see how they would insult me. I expected to be cursed for refusing to give them money, but I never imagined they would contemplate killing me. Peter’s face contorted with fury as he shouted at Alan: “You useless piece of trash, you can’t even control your own wife! She neither gives me money nor bears children. You worthless good-for-nothing, what was the point of having and raising you? I’ve wasted so much money on you for nothing!” Alan, upset about not getting money and being criticized by Peter, retorted bitterly: “You’re just as useless as me, relying entirely on Vivian for everything.” “Who the hell are you calling useless?” Peter demanded. Alan shot back: “Whoever responds, that’s who I’m talking about, isn’t it?” They launched into a mutual insult session, and I enjoyed watching them tear each other apart. Half an hour later, they grew tired of arguing and finally stopped. Alan said, “Dad, what if we…” He made a throat-slitting gesture. “That way the company would be ours.” Peter nodded repeatedly, visibly excited. “I’ve wanted to do this for a long time but was afraid you wouldn’t agree. Son, you’ve got guts. After it’s done, I’ll take seventy percent of her assets and give you the rest.” A flash of dissatisfaction crossed Alan’s eyes, but he quickly forced a smile. “Whatever you say, I’ll go along with it.” Just because I refused to give them money this once, they were plotting to eliminate me. They acted as if all the money I’d given them before never existed. I sneered, shrugging indifferently, thinking: “Since you show no kindness, don’t blame me for showing no mercy.”

  • My sister chose to live with our mom.

In my previous life, when my parents divorced, my sister Alisa Carolle went with our million-dollar-salaried father Vincent Carolle, while I followed my mother Fiona Carolle, who was left with nothing. Later, Vincent was fired from his company, went bankrupt overnight, and fell into poverty. Meanwhile, Fiona built her business from scratch, amassing assets worth over a hundred million dollars and becoming part of Seattle’s elite. Alisa grew jealous of me. On the day I was about to take over Fiona’s company, she stabbed me to death. When I opened my eyes again, I had returned to the day of my parents’ divorce. Watching Alisa insist on going with Fiona, I realized she had been reborn too. But this was fine. I never wanted to live that miserable life again anyway. “Mom, I want to go with you.” At our front door, Alisa clutched Fiona’s hand tightly, her eyes full of triumph. Vincent frowned, his eyes reflecting pain and helplessness. “Alisa, you’ll suffer with her. Come with me instead—I can give you a better life.” I stood to the side, feeling like an outsider, with no one caring about my feelings. In this family of four, I had been the odd one out since Alisa was born. Alisa was obedient, sensible, and knew how to win our parents’ affection. I was awkward and couldn’t even charm my parents. Over time, they grew to favor Alisa more and more, while I became practically invisible in this family. Fiona looked down at Alisa, disapproval in her eyes. “Alisa, don’t be stubborn! Your father is right—you’ll suffer if you come with me.” But Alisa seemed determined. She shook her head firmly and said, “No, I want to go with you.” Seeing this, Vincent sighed in resignation and finally gave in. “Fine, have it your way. But if you can’t handle the hardship, remember you can always come find me.” Alisa shot me a smug look and taunted, “Bianca, you go with Vincent. Don’t worry, your good days are ahead.” With that, Alisa took Fiona’s hand and left without looking back. I watched them walk away, thinking about everything that had happened with Fiona in my previous life, my emotions a jumbled mess. Vincent glanced at me impatiently without saying much, just telling me to get in the car. Outside the window, the scenery rushed by until the car stopped in front of a luxurious mansion. Only then did I snap back to reality. “This is Noble Vista, an exclusive neighborhood. Twenty thousand dollars per square foot,” Vincent held up two fingers proudly, his voice tinged with boastfulness. I stared at the magnificent building in surprise, feeling confused. Despite Vincent’s million-dollar salary, he couldn’t afford a mansion of this caliber—unless he had already secured a wealthy new partner. “This will be your home from now on. Be smart and don’t cause any trouble!” Vincent looked at me with disdain. “Otherwise, you’ll face the consequences.” I forced a smile and said, “I understand.” Vincent nodded with satisfaction and led me into the mansion. The interior was luxurious and exquisite, with every detail exuding wealth. In the living room, a slightly plump woman dressed in elegant clothes approached us. Vincent hurried to greet her. “Regina, aren’t you cold wearing so little?” Vincent asked obsequiously. Regina Duncan ignored Vincent’s question and glanced at me, her lips curling into a contemptuous smile. “So this is your daughter? Her face is decent enough, but everything else is utterly ordinary.” Vincent’s expression immediately turned awkward as he glared at me. “She’s always been like this. Don’t pay her any mind.” Vincent said sternly, “What are you standing there for? Greet her properly! This is your…” “Ms. Duncan. From now on, you’ll call me Ms. Duncan,” Regina cut in. I stood silently, neither arguing nor showing anger. “Yes, Ms. Duncan.” In my previous life, I might have felt insecure and upset by such remarks, but now I had learned how to handle such cold mockery. Besides, she was Regina, a self-made businesswoman in Seattle and part of the elite—she had every right to look down on me. Just then, the maids called out in unison, “Hello, Mr. Duncan.” I jumped, quickly turning around. Ethan Duncan stepped out of the car with a stern expression. He wore an impeccable suit, had chiseled features, and piercing eyes. Regina casually introduced him. “This is Ethan, my son. He now handles all company affairs for me.” Vincent immediately put on a fawning smile and approached him. “Mr. Duncan, hello.” Ethan smiled slightly but didn’t respond to Vincent, leaving him embarrassed. “Take a look at our new residents. This is Vincent Carolle, and this is his daughter,” Regina raised an eyebrow, looking at me. “My name is Bianca Carolle,” I said quietly. Ethan nodded slightly, his gaze falling on me, examining my worn school uniform. “You attend No. 1 High School?” he asked.

I nodded, feeling somewhat anxious. Ethan’s gaze was profound, difficult to read. He glanced at me and said coolly, “From now on, have the driver take you to and from school. Don’t embarrass the Duncan family.” I blushed with embarrassment and nodded. This uniform was one of the few intact pieces of clothing I owned. Regina seemed surprised by Ethan’s arrangement. I lowered my head and whispered, “Thank you.” Vincent stood nearby, smiling apologetically and nodding repeatedly. In the days that followed, my life began to change quietly. The Duncan estate became both a sanctuary and a starting point for my new life. Though I was like an insignificant decoration in the house, ignored by everyone, at least I had food and shelter, no longer having to struggle for my daily meals. School days became my only solace. In my previous life, after leaving with Fiona, I had no money for education. Fiona refused to work and expected me to support her, but I was just a young girl who hadn’t reached Christmas (the legal age of adulthood), who couldn’t even find a job washing dishes. I couldn’t provide for both of us. So I had to beg and scavenge through garbage—a life where I trampled my own dignity underfoot. I never wanted to live that way again. In this life, I was determined to study diligently. I knew education was the only way out for someone like me. Whenever my name appeared at the top of the grade reports, I understood I was moving one step further from the broken life of my past existence. However, whenever the school needed parents to attend events, that phone call to the Duncan family always filled me with anxiety. No one in the Duncan family would want to attend my parent-teacher conferences, even though they were meant to praise me. “Hello, is this Mr. Carolle? Your daughter has achieved excellent results again. We’d like to invite you to attend the parent-teacher conference…” On the other end of the line, the teacher’s voice was full of expectation. But Vincent’s response was ice-cold and callous, “What does it matter if a girl gets good grades? I’m busy. Besides, you’d better check if she cheated. There’s no way she could have achieved such high scores on her own.” The moment Vincent hung up, my heart seemed to freeze along with it. I wondered what kind of parent would suspect cheating rather than feel pride when their child scored well. I took a deep breath, trying to suppress the bitterness in my heart. Regina had approached without my noticing. Her voice carried a hint of amusement and disdain, “I think Ethan has been quite idle lately. He might as well go. After all, she is my stepdaughter. If we don’t attend her parent-teacher conferences, people might say the Duncan family is mistreating her.” After saying this, Regina left, leaving Vincent looking bewildered. On the day of the parent-teacher conference, Ethan’s figure appeared in the back row of the classroom. His presence always caused a small commotion. My classmates whispered among themselves, while I just sat with my head down. After that, Ethan began attending my parent-teacher conferences, though not every time—perhaps three or four times out of ten. But for someone of his stature, that was already quite remarkable. Time went by steadily, and I was approaching the turning point of high school graduation. I thought no one would care about my plans for the future, but Ethan suddenly asked, “What are your plans after graduation? Would you like to study abroad?” Before I could respond, my father’s voice cut in from the side, carrying his usual contempt, “She’s just a girl. Finishing high school is good enough. She’s reached Christmas now—she’d be useful for a marriage alliance.” I looked at him in disbelief, feeling an unprecedented wave of despair and anger. This was my so-called father, a man willing to sacrifice his daughter’s happiness for profit! Just as my emotions were about to collapse, Ethan’s voice sounded again. “The Duncan family doesn’t need a young girl to sell her looks. Her future should be decided by herself.”

I stood in the middle of the living room, stunned by Ethan’s words. I couldn’t believe my future was truly mine to decide. Ethan left me with only a brief yet powerful statement: “Come find me when you’ve made up your mind.” Vincent wanted to say something more, but was silenced by Ethan’s undeniable presence. “Dad, I would never…” I had just begun when a frantic knocking at the door interrupted me. The door burst open, and Alisa stumbled in. Her clothes were in tatters, her face covered in wounds, looking utterly wretched. “Dad, please save me…” Alisa’s voice was choked with tears, her eyes filled with desperation and pleading. When her gaze met mine, a flash of resentment and unwillingness crossed her face. Vincent looked at Alisa with heartache. “Alisa, what happened to you? How has your mother been raising you to end up like this?” I clenched my fists tightly, my nails digging deep into my palms. The pain kept me clear-headed. “Mom… Mom made me sleep with old men to support her!” she said. Memories flooded back like a tide. In my previous life, Fiona had done the same to me. I had escaped just like Alisa. I had also sought out Vincent, begging him to take me in. But Vincent had mercilessly pushed me away, not even allowing me through the gates of the Duncan estate. “Dad, please let me stay with the Duncans. I really can’t go back. It will kill me,” Alisa pleaded again, her voice trembling with fear and helplessness. Vincent looked at Alisa, his eyes flashing with anger and disappointment. “That beast! How could she do this to you? She’s worse than an animal!” At that moment, Regina slowly descended from upstairs. She wore an exquisite gown and looked down at Alisa from her elevated position. Alisa seemed intimidated by Regina’s presence. She lowered her head and softly called out, “Mom…” Regina’s eyes flashed with disdain and mockery. “You’re quite clever, aren’t you?” After saying this, Regina ignored her. This silence effectively approved Alisa’s stay, which was exactly what Vincent wanted. However, Alisa didn’t seem to cherish this opportunity. Perhaps she knew that in this lifetime, the Duncan family would certainly go bankrupt. During her stay at the Duncan house, she maintained a respectful fear of Ethan but treated everyone else with arrogance. She demanded servants whenever she went out, insisted that staff half-squat when speaking to her, making everyone resent her. Regina pretended not to notice any of this and never said anything to Alisa, which only encouraged her to push boundaries further. She began eyeing Regina’s clothes and jewelry. These items were worth anywhere from hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars, and she took them one by one to sell. Alisa thought Regina hadn’t noticed the missing items, so she grew increasingly bold. Until that day when she stole several of Regina’s handbags and clothes, attempting to sell them, and was caught red-handed. Regina still looked at her calmly. “So you’re the one with such audacity, daring to steal my clothes. Do you realize these amounts are enough to put you in prison for life?” Alisa’s face instantly turned deathly pale. She stared at Regina in terror, her eyes filled with despair. She tried to deny it, but Regina’s icy gaze and unquestionable tone left her completely panicked. “I… I didn’t…” Alisa’s voice trembled as she tried to grasp at the last thread of hope. Regina didn’t give her that chance. She coldly turned her head toward the servant beside her and said, “Take her away.” Alisa struggled, refusing to leave. I stood there without a shred of sympathy. A faint smile tugged at my lips as I inwardly shook my head. Alisa had known Regina for what felt like forever, yet was still naive enough to think Regina could be easily fooled. A woman who raised a son like Ethan—so reserved, composed, and masterful in his methods—was naturally intelligent herself. “Regina, how… how can you throw Alisa out? She’s my daughter…” Vincent’s voice carried a pleading tone as he tried to intercede for Alisa, only to be cut off by Regina’s piercing gaze. “You know very well she’s your daughter. Allowing her into the Duncan family and letting her stay this long was already more than generous,” Regina’s voice was calm yet resolute, without the slightest hesitation. “Besides, the Duncan family isn’t a charity. We have no room for such greedy individuals.” Vincent’s face turned pale. He clearly hadn’t expected Regina to be so decisive. He wanted to say more, but Regina had already signaled the servants to take Alisa away. “No! Dad! Help me!” Alisa’s cries echoed through the living room as she grasped at her last lifeline. Just then, Ethan appeared in the doorway. Dressed in an impeccable suit, his expression was stern as his gaze swept across everyone before finally settling on Alisa. “What’s going on?” Ethan’s voice was deep and powerful, as if it could penetrate one’s heart. “Someone truly believed this was her own home and dared to steal my belongings!” Regina’s voice was cold, showing for the first time her decisive authority as a person of power. Ethan looked at the items on the floor and immediately understood. “Guards!” Ethan commanded coldly. Seeing this, Vincent hurriedly bowed and said, “Mr. Duncan, please, for the sake of our past relationship, forgive Alisa this once. She’s still young, barely in her teens, and doesn’t know better…” Alisa quickly knelt down too, looking at Ethan with tear-filled eyes full of pleading, “Ethan, I was wrong. I’ll change, I promise. Please don’t send me away…” I had intended to maintain a calm, observer’s stance, but to my surprise, Vincent tried to pull me down to bow and apologize with them. He said, “You ungrateful little wretch, hurry up and kneel down to beg for Alisa!” His hand had barely touched my sleeve when Ethan’s cold gaze stopped him. “Enough!” Ethan’s voice thundered through the living room like lightning. “Your failure to raise your daughter properly is not my concern. But her actions have crossed my line. The Duncan family is not a place she can trample on as she pleases.” Vincent’s expression grew even more distressed as he tried to plead again, but Ethan had lost all patience. He waved for the servants to forcibly remove Alisa and Vincent, saying in an icy, resolute tone, “Throw them out.” Alisa’s greed and ignorance, Vincent’s weakness and indulgence—all left me feeling disgusted and disillusioned. With Vincent and Alisa gone, the Duncan family naturally had no place for me either. I turned and bowed deeply to Regina and Ethan. “Thank you, Mrs. Duncan and Mr. Duncan, for taking care of me all this time. I… I will find a way to repay you someday,” I said. Without them these past days, I would never have been able to complete my education. From now on, I would have to rely on myself. Just as I was about to turn and leave, Ethan and Regina spoke simultaneously. “Wait!”

  • Swap destinies

During Christmas, my husband asked his childhood sweetheart to give me a few hamburgers. After eating the first hamburger, the hospital notified me that my physical examination results were ready, confirming I had cancer. Yet simultaneously, my husband’s childhood sweetheart’s leukemia mysteriously disappeared, and she was suddenly glowing with health. After eating the second hamburger, my restaurant was suddenly exposed for food safety issues, faced massive compensation claims, and ultimately went bankrupt. Meanwhile, my husband’s childhood sweetheart won a gold medal at an international cake competition. After eating the third hamburger, my parents died from carbon monoxide poisoning at home. I was suspected of killing my parents for insurance money and was despised by everyone. Suffering from poverty and illness, I froze to death under a bridge. Meanwhile, my husband’s childhood sweetheart was recognized by her billionaire biological parents, gaining both fame and fortune, receiving endless love, and forming a perfect couple with my husband, living happily ever after. When I opened my eyes again, I had returned to Christmas Day when I was about to eat those hamburgers. 1 “Here, try a bite. Alyssa made this hamburger especially for you, it smells delicious…” In the blink of an eye, Harrison Moore had already picked up a hamburger and held it to my lips. I jumped up from my seat as if sitting on pins, grabbed my bag and headed for the door. “I’m not eating anymore, you two carry on. I suddenly have a business meeting to attend, I need to go out.” This familiar scene made me instantly realize I had been reborn. I remembered how in my previous life, as I lay dying, Harrison and Alyssa Locke came to mock me, saying they had exchanged a few “lucky” hamburgers for my good fortune. It was all because I was too stupid and too kind, trusting them so easily! Now, I was walking away without hesitation. Let’s see whose good luck they could steal this time! Harrison’s eyes reddened with anxiety as he blocked the doorway. “Honey, don’t rush. I’ll pack the hamburger for you to eat on the way. Otherwise, once you get busy, you’ll forget to eat and ruin your stomach. Or I could go with you and make sure you eat?” Harrison was like a shadow I couldn’t shake off, insisting on watching me eat the hamburger. I matched his tone, lying with a straight face: “No need. My business partner said they’ll treat me to a big meal after our meeting. If I eat a hamburger now, I won’t have room for anything else.” Harrison’s brows knotted into a tight frown. “Well… at least eat one hamburger? It’s Alyssa’s gesture of goodwill, and eating hamburgers on Christmas is supposed to bring good luck.” Looking at Harrison’s fake concern for me, I felt nothing but disgust. I snapped: “No time, I’m in a hurry! Harrison!” I pushed him aside and reached for the doorknob, but Harrison kept squeezing in front of me, constantly urging me to eat at least one hamburger, pushing it toward my face. Furious, I angrily swatted the hamburger out of his hand, sending it crashing to the floor! “Great, now the hamburger’s on the floor. What are you going to make me eat now? This is your fault for pressuring me.” “Not only did you waste food, but you also broke the plate. How unlucky on Christmas! It’s all because of you bringing bad luck. Pah! You only bring misfortune wherever you go!” Harrison was stunned by my accusatory attitude. I quickly pushed the door open, but Alyssa grabbed my wrist! “Sister, don’t blame Harrison. It doesn’t matter that the hamburger fell. I made several especially for you. I have plenty more—just take one bite, please.” I felt a suffocating pressure in my chest. Why was Alyssa so persistent? I snapped: “Are you deaf? I’m rushing to make money, I don’t have time! Stop blocking me. Since you’re so free, why don’t you clean up the floor instead!” Alyssa was also stunned by my outburst. Previously, I had been kind to Harrison and polite to Alyssa by extension. But after being reborn, who would be polite to their enemies! However, I had come to Harrison’s hometown for a family dinner, and the table was surrounded by his extended family. Seeing that I had scolded both him and Alyssa, these people were not pleased. His uncle said with a snide, condescending tone: “Well, we understand! She’s a big boss who looks down on us village folk. She thinks it’s beneath her to eat at the same table with us, that’s why she’s in such a hurry to leave.” Harrison’s second aunt joined in stirring up trouble: “Exactly! That’s why we said Harrison should have married Alyssa instead. Then us old folks wouldn’t be looked down upon. What a shame!” “Harrison’s wife, if that’s not what you meant, then you must pick up this hamburger and eat it today! Don’t you know to respect food?” “Life was so hard in the past. We would wash and eat things picked from garbage heaps. And here you are being picky? In my opinion, you and Harrison aren’t meant to be together. You might as well end it…” These self-important elders had always favored Alyssa in my previous life and had given me no end of trouble. For Harrison’s sake, I had endured it again and again. Now, I clapped my hands with gleeful satisfaction and said: “You’re right. I do think your entire family is beneath me, and I don’t want to continue this marriage. Harrison, let’s get divorced. See you at the civil affairs bureau!” Harrison suddenly panicked. If he divorced me, how could he help Alyssa steal my good fortune?

2 Harrison was so frightened that he immediately cursed at his relatives: “Shut up! All of you stop meddling!” His aunts and uncles felt wronged and said, “Harrison, we’re only doing this for your own good…” Then they took turns criticizing him for being disrespectful and unfilial to his elders. Harrison’s headache was getting worse; he felt like his head was about to explode. I took the opportunity to walk toward the door. From behind came Alyssa’s crying, tinged with a deliberately feminine, tearful voice: “Sister, just go. I know you’re disgusted by my leukemia and think I’m dirty, which is why you won’t eat the hamburger I made with my own hands. I don’t have many days left, and all I wanted was to have one last family meal with you all. Won’t you even grant me this wish?… Waaah, my darling fan babies, I’m so heartbroken!” Alyssa was sobbing and complaining directly into the camera. That’s when I realized she had started a livestream! With her persona as a beautiful woman fighting illness, she had already amassed over a million followers. I immediately checked my phone and saw that her livestream already had hundreds of thousands of viewers, with the number constantly increasing. The comment section was flooded with people cursing at me! “Who is this woman? She’s so cold-blooded. That smug face makes me want to punch her! Leukemia isn’t contagious, what’s wrong with eating a hamburger?” “She’s obviously looking down on her. Thinks she’s so high and mighty. Wait, I recognize her—that’s Kennedy Thompson, the CEO of that restaurant chain.” “Let’s expose her, get her trending, and boycott her business. Don’t spend money at her restaurants and support this heartless woman!” Seeing Alyssa’s secretly smirking lips, I felt both angry and anxious. Christmas was the peak season for restaurant bookings. If the public boycotted now, the losses would be enormous and impossible to recover from! Alyssa continued her fake act: “My precious little fans, don’t misunderstand. I think my sister was just in a hurry to discuss some business deal and snapped at me in the heat of the moment.” She picked up another hamburger and said, “If my sister just takes one bite of this hamburger, it will prove she doesn’t discriminate against sick people, and everyone can stop affecting the business she worked so hard to build.” The comments were flooding in, demanding that I eat the hamburger. The way things were going, if I didn’t eat it, I wouldn’t have a peaceful day! But in the next second, I opened the hospital’s official account on my phone and pointed the electronic appointment record at Alyssa’s livestream camera, crying out loudly: “I’m a patient too! Please leave me alone.” I explained how I, this workaholic spaghetti, had ruined my stomach from irregular meals while building my business—all true. Then I made up a story about how my stomach had been burning like fire lately, that I’d even vomited blood, and suspected stomach cancer, which was why I’d scheduled a medical examination. “I might not have much time left either. I was feeling terrible and just wanted to find a place to cry alone. There’s already one sick person here, and I didn’t want to bring everyone down. That’s why I was rushing out. My stomach hurts, and I can’t eat anything, but Alyssa insisted I stay. I got upset and lost my temper. I’m sorry for ruining everyone’s Christmas!” After seeing my previous medical records, the viewers believed me even more. The tide of public opinion immediately shifted, and they started blaming Alyssa instead. “Alyssa, just because you’re sick, you can’t see that she’s suffering too? Did you have to force her to cry in public before you’d be satisfied?” “This poor CEO worked so hard to get where she is, and just when she could finally enjoy life, she got sick. How tragic! And you nearly destroyed her business—that’s so cruel!” Seeing the situation turning against her, Alyssa collapsed on the floor crying, speaking in that fake, theatrical tone: “It’s all my fault! My leukemia is getting worse, and my eyes aren’t working well. I couldn’t tell my sister was suffering. I’m hurting people! I should have died long ago!” Immediately, her die-hard fans came to her defense: “Don’t forget, Alyssa is the real patient here. As for that CEO, she hasn’t even been diagnosed yet. What’s she crying about? If she’s this fragile, I’m surprised she hasn’t died of fright already!” Perfect opportunity! I immediately shouted that I didn’t want to live anymore, covered my face, and ran away, putting on a full suicidal act and playing up my vulnerability to the max. With that, both the people criticizing me and Alyssa’s livestream were immediately flooded with a tidal wave of angry comments. “How could you push a sick person like that? What if something happens to her? And Alyssa, you started all this—you’re at fault too!” Alyssa’s face turned green from all the criticism. Meanwhile, I was already driving, racing toward the hospital. Although I hadn’t received any cancer diagnosis notification this time, I decided to go to the hospital in person to be sure. However, halfway there, a sudden, intense pain shot through my stomach! I managed to drive to the hospital entrance, but as soon as I got out of the car, everything started spinning, and I collapsed to the ground. Why? I hadn’t even touched those hamburgers, so why was this happening?

3 I don’t know how much time had passed when I heard my parents crying, saying, “Our daughter is still Christmas young! If someone had to get sick, it should have been us. Why did she have to be the one with cancer?” Beside them, Harrison was putting on a fake show: “Mom, Dad, it’s all my fault for not taking better care of Kennedy. Don’t worry, I’ll stay with her until the very end…” But in my previous life, wasn’t I killed by Harrison? I jolted upright in my hospital bed, struggling to sit up. Harrison put on a concerned face and said, “Honey, you’re awake. Did… did you hear everything just now? Since you know you have stomach cancer, you really shouldn’t be starving yourself.” He handed me a still-warm hamburger. “Here, have a burger.” I felt a bone-chilling terror! In my previous life, Harrison had tricked me into eating a second hamburger with these exact same words after I was hospitalized with stomach cancer. Then I received the call about the restaurant incident, followed by the business going bankrupt. I couldn’t afford hospital treatment and lived miserably! Thinking of this, I violently slapped the hamburger out of his hand. “Get out! Harrison, I told you I want a divorce!” Harrison knelt on the floor picking up the mess, looking pitiful as he said, “Kennedy, I know you look down on me for coming from a rural background, and you look down on things from my family, but I’m really thinking about your health. Cancer patients shouldn’t go hungry. Even if you just take one bite… I won’t agree to a divorce. I want to take care of you. After you recover, if you still don’t want me, I’ll accept it!” After Harrison’s performance, passing patients began pointing fingers at me. “With such a good husband, what’s this woman complaining about? She must be a terrible person to deserve cancer as karma!” My parents were moved by him too and tried to persuade me: “Kennedy, be reasonable. Harrison’s sincerity is rare. Just eat something.” Mom picked up the remaining hamburger and held it to my lips, tears in her eyes as she said, “If you reach the point where you can’t eat anything, that’s the end! Please eat something, if only to give your parents peace of mind!” The elderly woman’s tone was almost begging. Looking at their graying hair, I nearly gave in on impulse. But just as I opened my mouth, I turned my head away and refused. “I won’t eat a hamburger. I’ll eat something else. Shouldn’t you be considering the patient’s feelings right now? Just seeing Harrison makes me upset. I can’t eat anything!” At this, my parents had no choice but to ask Harrison to leave first. I breathed a sigh of relief as my father wiped his tears and brought me a bowl of soup. “Alright, Kennedy, whatever issues you have with Harrison, you’ll at least eat what your parents made, right? Don’t starve yourself.” I nodded and opened the thermos. A strong meaty smell hit me. Something felt wrong. I asked, “Mom, Dad, don’t you usually make clear mushroom soup?” Dad stammered, “It’s a holiday, so of course we should eat more meat. We made you egg and ground meat soup…” My parents were honest people who blushed whenever they lied. I said sternly, “If you don’t tell me the truth, I won’t eat anything today!” Having been reborn, I needed to be exceptionally vigilant. Mom immediately rushed to my bedside, crying as she confessed: “Kennedy, you can’t go hungry! This soup is from Harrison! He said you had a little argument, and he was afraid you’d be angry and refuse to eat what he brought, which would hurt your stomach. So he asked us to help so he could take care of you…” My teeth clenched in fury! Looking carefully, the ground meat in the soup was actually hamburger filling, with the bun mixed in so thoroughly you couldn’t notice unless you looked closely. Harrison was determined to harm me! Just then, the doctor came in for rounds and frowned, saying, “Didn’t I tell the family it’s just acute gastritis? Why are you crying so sadly? This really affects the patient’s mood.” Mom froze, then said, “But Harrison said it was stomach cancer. He told us to quickly feed Kennedy more food so she could hold on…” I gave a cold laugh. Harrison had manipulated my parents and given me quite a “surprise.” I was actually fine, and now it was his turn! Why not give him a “surprise” of my own? I took the thermos and walked downstairs. Harrison hadn’t left yet; he was still waiting there. “Honey, why did you come down?” I smiled with a hint of mischief and said, “I think I’ll have more appetite if I eat while walking. Want to join me?” Harrison naturally wanted to keep an eye on me. So he watched helplessly as I walked to the hospital entrance, raised my hand, and poured the entire bowl of meat soup out for several stray mangy dogs! I wanted to see what kind of fate Alyssa, Harrison’s secret lover, would exchange with these stray dogs this time. Seeing this, Harrison let out a terrible cry and lunged forward, fighting with the dogs for the food!

  • My fiancée is pregnant with my brother’s child.

A week before our wedding, my fiancée successfully got pregnant using my brother’s frozen embryo. She posted the pregnancy test results on social media with the caption: “Fortunate to let our love continue in another way.” My brother commented below: “Meeting you is my greatest luck.” My mother quickly added: “Thank you for your hard work, Jocelyn White. Oscar Jones should put that apartment solely in your name!” I quietly commented: “Congratulations.” My fiancée immediately called to berate me: “Your brother can’t have children anymore. It’s just one child, and the baby still carries your Jones family bloodline! How can you be so petty as his older brother?” I chuckled softly and casually dialed a number: “Want to get married?” The person on the other end went silent for a moment, then erupted in jubilation. “Really? You finally came around! I’ll book my flight back right now! No backing out now—I’ll see you at the registry office next week! Honey~” That last coquettish “honey” caught me off guard, making even the tips of my ears inexplicably warm. The slight regret I felt about being too impulsive instantly vanished. Perhaps this was for the best. Meanwhile, my fiancée Jocelyn updated her Facebook again. I clicked to find photos of her massaging Hugo Jones’ legs. In the pictures, she was all smiles, without a trace of disgust. The comment section was filled with teasing remarks from Jocelyn’s friends. Sharp-eyed, I spotted a comment from my brother Hugo: “If only we had met before you were promised to another.” The implication was crystal clear. Jocelyn showed no restraint in her reply: “It’s never too late to follow your heart.” Below, Jocelyn’s girlfriends chimed in with more teasing and congratulations. Apparently, everyone around her knew about her affair with Hugo behind my back, yet whenever they saw me, they still criticized my every move. I used to think I wasn’t good enough, but now I realize it was simply because they all knew Jocelyn’s heart belonged to Hugo. My heart throbbed with pain. I felt like a complete fool. Just then, I received test results from the hospital. They showed a tumor in my stomach with risk of malignancy, requiring immediate surgery. The procedure needed a family member’s signature. I couldn’t count on my mother or Hugo. After much hesitation, I called Jocelyn. “Could you come to the hospital tomorrow? I need surgery—” Before I could finish, Jocelyn impatiently cut me off. “Oscar, aren’t you being a total pain? Just because I’m pregnant with your brother’s child, you’re making up stories about needing surgery to get attention? How pathetic for a grown man to use such tactics! Do you know that because of your comment, Hugo feels so guilty he’s depressed? He’s your own brother—can’t you be more generous and treat his child as your own? I’m busy comforting Hugo. You’re not dying, so stop bothering me, or the wedding is off!” She hung up furiously, giving me no chance to explain. I let out a bitter laugh, having lost count of how many times she’d threatened to call off our wedding. Whenever I showed the slightest disapproval of her relationship with Hugo, she would use our marriage as leverage. Especially after Hugo’s car accident that left his legs disabled. “If it weren’t for you, how would Hugo have injured his legs? How can you be so selfish?” “Hugo is your brother, and I’m his sister-in-law. What’s wrong with taking care of him? Why are you, a grown man, so petty?!” “If Hugo hadn’t kept persuading me, I wouldn’t want to marry you at all. You’re not even half as considerate as Hugo!” I’d heard such words too many times to count. But the truth was, Hugo had the accident while pretending to deliver medicine to me, when he was actually sneaking off to meet her. While I was working myself to exhaustion to buy her dream house and give her a better life—drinking until I suffered severe stomach bleeding and collapsed—she was secretly dating my own brother under the pretense of taking care of me. Before, I feared losing her, so I subconsciously avoided thinking about these things. I never defended myself, just apologized. But now, I decided to let her go. “Fine. The wedding is off.” With that, for the first time this Christmas, I hung up on Jocelyn first.

The next day, I went to the hospital alone. I signed the surgery consent form myself. When the doctor asked, I calmly replied, “I’m practically an orphan.” The surgery went relatively well. I stayed in the hospital for three days before the doctor said I could go home to recover. During this time, neither my mother nor Jocelyn sent me a single call or text message. Yet somehow, I felt a long-forgotten sense of peace. After being discharged, I boarded the bus home. As we passed through the university district, memories of Jocelyn and me flooded back. It might sound hard to believe, but initially, Jocelyn was the one who pursued me. Back then, she was full of youthful energy and boldness, even confessing her feelings for me in front of the entire school. Despite my repeated rejections, she never lost heart, showing me affection I’d never experienced before. Inevitably, I fell for her. During our senior year at Christmas, her father was defrauded of his business funds and fell seriously ill. Their once-privileged family was suddenly drowning in debt. During that period, I worked internships by day and part-time jobs by night, not only comforting her exhausted mind and body but also supporting both of us financially. That’s when my stomach problems began. Fortunately, her father later received help from a kind benefactor, and they recovered part of the stolen funds. Things gradually improved, and we set a date for our wedding. Until Hugo returned from abroad, and her heart changed… I got off the bus and arrived home. As soon as I pushed open the door, the scene before me left me utterly shocked and horrified. Our carefully decorated wedding home was in complete disarray. The house that had been clean and tidy when I left was now littered with takeout boxes, with cockroaches crawling over them. On the balcony, my carefully nurtured succulents had been maliciously uprooted. Through the open bedroom door, I saw Hugo sitting on my bed while Jocelyn crouched beside him, coaxing him to take medicine. My mother lounged carelessly on my new sofa. The cushion I’d specially selected—printed with a photo of Jocelyn and me—had been torn to shreds by Hugo’s dog, with stuffing spilling out everywhere. “What are you doing here?” Seeing me return, my mother merely glanced at me, snorted, and said, “Jocelyn is carrying a Jones family child. I thought this apartment of yours was quite nice—it was meant to be your marital home anyway—so I let Jocelyn and Hugo move in together.” “This is my wedding home. What right does he have to live here?!” I looked at Hugo, who was hiding behind Jocelyn with smug eyes, and took a deep breath before saying, “Besides, I no longer plan to marry Jocel—” Before I could finish, my mother rushed over, grabbed my arm, and started hitting me. “I’ll kill you, you ungrateful wretch! Hugo is your own brother. He broke his leg because of you! What’s wrong with letting him stay in your apartment? If you ask me, you should just transfer the deed to him! Besides, Jocelyn is now carrying Hugo’s child—of course the baby’s father and mother should live together. As for you, contributing nothing all day—how do you expect to support Jocelyn and Hugo’s child?!” I almost laughed bitterly at the absurdity. Since childhood, my mother never liked me. When she was pregnant with me, my father had an affair. After I was born, she directed all her resentment toward me, though none of it was my fault. As a child, I still craved maternal love, striving for top grades, handling all household chores, saving money to buy her gifts, carefully trying to please her. But none of that compared to Hugo doing nothing at all. Later, when I told her about my plans to get married, her first reaction was to make it clear I shouldn’t expect her to provide any dowry or wedding gifts, let alone help with buying a house. She even handed me an account book, telling me to repay everything once I had money. The book recorded every expense spent on me since childhood, down to erasers costing mere pennies. Most ironically, the total she’d spent on me from birth until now amounted to only fifty thousand yuan—a pittance. From that moment on, I stopped hoping for any maternal love. I felt warmth on my forehead. When I touched it, there was blood. Taking a deep breath, I looked at the three people in the room: my birth mother, my brother, and the woman I had planned to spend my life with. My mind had never been clearer. “Hugo, you know perfectly well how your leg was broken!” Hugo’s eyes darted away for a moment. I smiled sarcastically and said, “This apartment is mine. If you want it, fine—pay for it. And…” I turned to Jocelyn, “If you didn’t hear me clearly on the phone, let me say it again: I’m letting you and Hugo be together. This wedding is off, for good!”

The room suddenly fell silent, and the expressions on the three faces weren’t pleasant. Jocelyn’s face showed a rare hint of panic as she walked toward me, seemingly wanting to explain something. Just then, my phone rang. I pulled it out and saw a reminder text from the Civil Affairs Bureau about our appointment tomorrow morning at eight to get our marriage certificate. I was stunned for a moment before remembering it was Susan Hall. We hadn’t contacted each other since that phone call. I assumed she was just kidding back then—marriage isn’t a small matter, after all. But unexpectedly, she had made an appointment at the Civil Affairs Bureau, and it was scheduled for tomorrow morning at eight. Why was she in such a hurry? I couldn’t help recalling how she had sweetly called me “husband” on the phone that day, and my ears began to heat up again. Jocelyn glimpsed the message content and sighed with relief. “Oscar, I know you’re just saying these things because I’ve been neglecting you lately. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely be on time for our appointment tomorrow.” Then, noticing the medicine bag in my hand, she took my hand and softened her tone. “Were you really sick? I thought you were lying. But seeing you standing here just fine, it can’t be anything serious. I promise I’ll make time for you from now on.” I didn’t explain. She took my silence as agreement and pulled me into the study. “Where’s that amulet I gave you before? Give it to me—Hugo wants it.” Her words struck me like lightning. “What did you say?” Though the amulet wasn’t valuable, it was something Jocelyn had gotten for me when she was pursuing me, kneeling at every third step on her way to the temple, a traditional act of devotion. She had even fallen ill because of it. It was precisely because of this that I vowed never to let her down, and I’d kept the amulet with me at all times. Jocelyn became irritated. “If you want one, I’ll buy you another one later. Right now, Hugo’s in a bad mood because of his broken leg. As his brother, you should be more accommodating!” Accommodating? Haven’t I been accommodating enough all these years? When has Hugo ever not gotten what he wanted? I’m even expected to give up my wife for him! I took off the amulet I had carefully worn around my neck, but didn’t immediately hand it over. “Jocelyn, did you ever really like me?” Jocelyn snatched the amulet from me. “Don’t be ridiculous! I’ve already agreed to marry you tomorrow, what more do you want? If you can’t even part with an amulet, how can I expect you to treat me well in the future?!” With that, she yanked open the study door and left. I stood there, watching drops of blood from my forehead fall onto the light oak floor, and whatever feelings I had left for Jocelyn completely vanished. After leaving, I immediately put the house up for sale. There was something I hadn’t told them—I’d been promoted, but needed to be transferred to another province. I had been hesitant before because I didn’t want to leave Jocelyn, but now I only felt relieved. I checked into a nearby hotel and soon received a video. In the video, the lights were flashing and the music was deafening, clearly at a bar. Jocelyn, dressed scantily, was sitting on Hugo’s lap. They were feeding each other mouth-to-mouth while people around them cheered. Someone nearby asked her, “Didn’t you say you’re getting your marriage certificate with Oscar tomorrow? Won’t he be angry if he finds out about you and his brother?” Jocelyn pressed her entire body against Hugo and replied confidently, “Even if he knows I’m carrying Hugo’s child, he’ll just throw a little tantrum, then rush to make an appointment at the Civil Affairs Bureau for tomorrow morning. Besides, Hugo is his own brother—what’s there to fuss about between family? The child will still be a Jones either way. If he were a real man, he’d be more generous about it!” Everyone around them roared with laughter. “Jocelyn is so impressive, keeping men wrapped around her finger!” “Men should be trained like dogs!” After the video ended, another message came through: [Oscar, you were born to be trampled under my feet!] Of course, I didn’t need to guess who sent the video. But my mood was surprisingly calm, and I even began looking forward to meeting Susan at the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow morning. I wonder if after all these years, she’s still the same as before…That night, I enjoyed the best sleep I’d had in a long time. When I woke up in the morning, the thought of seeing the little girl who used to follow me around years ago—and that we were going to get our marriage license—made me inexplicably nervous. I almost arrived late as a result. However, as soon as I reached the civil affairs bureau, I saw Jocelyn, dolled up excessively, pushing Hugo in his wheelchair. She looked me up and down, eyeing my suit with contempt before letting out a scornful laugh. “Seems like you’re taking this marriage license thing quite seriously, cleaning yourself up nicely!” She then pulled out a document from her bag. “But before we get the license, sign this agreement first.” I frowned, about to tell her that she wasn’t the one I was getting married to, but she had already forced the agreement into my arms, adding, “I’m only thinking about our future happiness. This way, you can’t say I took advantage of you later!” Hugo chimed in from the side: “That’s right, bro. Jocelyn stayed up all night working on this agreement. She even consulted Mom to make sure you wouldn’t feel it was unfair!” Not wanting to argue with them in public, I bit back my anger and glanced at the agreement. That one glance was enough to make me laugh sarcastically. [Agreement 1: After marriage, Oscar must treat the child in Jocelyn’s womb as his own, assume parental responsibilities, and pay no less than 10,000 yuan monthly for child support.] [Agreement 2: After marriage, Oscar must allow his brother Hugo to live with them and promise not to interfere with Hugo’s interactions with the child in Jocelyn’s womb.] [Agreement 3: After marriage, Jocelyn has the right to decide whether to have more children, and Oscar cannot interfere.] [Agreement 4: After marriage, Oscar must promise to leave his assets to the child in Jocelyn’s womb…] I couldn’t be bothered to read the rest. Calling this a one-sided agreement would be an understatement—they weren’t even treating me like a human being! Seeing me laugh, Jocelyn frowned and urged, “Oscar, what are you waiting for? Do you still want to get the license or not? Sign it now!” I looked up defiantly and, right in front of them, deliberately tore the agreement to shreds, throwing the pieces in their faces. “What do you take me for? Did you really think I’d sign something like this?” Jocelyn’s expression changed dramatically. She tried to threaten me again, starting to say, “You—” But I cut her off coldly, giving her a sidelong glance. “And who told you I was getting a marriage license with you?” Jocelyn’s face froze. Hugo quickly tried to smooth things over. “Bro, don’t be difficult. Everyone knows you won’t marry anyone but Jocelyn. We’ve finally made it to this day—don’t joke about something as serious as marriage. Besides, your appointment is at eight, right? If not with Jocelyn, who are you getting married to?” Jocelyn recovered her composure, crossing her arms and looking at me arrogantly. “Oscar, you’re just putting on this act to get my attention, aren’t you? I already told you, as soon as you sign this agreement, we can get our license!” I checked the time—it was already 8:10. Yet Susan still hadn’t shown up. Did she have an emergency, or had she changed her mind? Regardless, Jocelyn and I would absolutely never have any relationship again! Just as I was about to speak, a car horn sounded nearby, followed by a clear, sweet female voice: “Honey, I’m sorry I’m late.”

  • Father’s $10 million compensation

After my parents divorced, I chose to live with my hardworking and honest community police officer father, while my sister chose to live with our higher-earning influencer mother. After turning eighteen, I became an adult, but my father unfortunately sacrificed his life while saving an elderly man from drowning. Unexpectedly, the rescued elderly man turned out to be the wealthiest man in the country. To express gratitude for my father’s life-saving deed, the billionaire offered ten million dollars as a gift to the family. My sister, who had long since left with our mother, suddenly appeared to claim the ten million. When I tried to argue, my mother berated me, saying I wasn’t their biological child and had no blood relation to my father. Because of my mother’s words, none of our relatives dared to acknowledge me. I ended up homeless and eventually died miserably… When I opened my eyes again, I had returned to the day of my father’s death, when the billionaire was offering the ten million dollars. 1 “Lucy Clark, if you know what’s good for you, get out now!” “You have the audacity to still think about that ten million! Look at yourself—you don’t even qualify for a single penny!” Hearing the sharp scolding, I looked up and met my mother Mia Taylor’s eyes, filled with utter contempt and disgust. But I didn’t care at all, just quietly staring at my father’s memorial portrait. Seeing that I neither left nor responded, my “dear sister” Zora Clark couldn’t help but speak up. Her tone was dripping with mockery: “Lucy, this money is mine. Have some dignity, will you?” Since entering this room, Zora hadn’t spared a single glance at Dad’s photo. All she cared about was the money. Anger surged through my chest. I turned and gave Mia and Zora an ice-cold look, firing back: “You two are the shameless ones! When Dad was alive, you couldn’t care less about him. Now that he’s gone, you come running back to exploit his memory for every last penny. You’re truly despicable!” I straightened my back, not afraid at all, because I had been reborn! In my previous life, my parents had a bad relationship and divorced. I chose to live with my hardworking, honest community police officer father, while my sister Zora followed our higher-earning influencer mother. Dad treated me exceptionally well, and I thought I would continue to be happy, but tragedy struck. On Christmas of my eighteenth year, Dad sacrificed his life saving a drowning elderly man. Surprisingly, the rescued man turned out to be the wealthiest person in the country. To thank my father for saving his life, the billionaire offered ten million dollars as a token of gratitude to the family. My sister Zora, who had long since left with our mother, suddenly stepped forward to claim the ten million. Remembering how Zora used to look down on Dad, only to return now for the money, I was absolutely livid with rage. I argued desperately, not wanting Zora to get the money. But my mother Mia cursed me openly, saying I wasn’t their biological child and had no blood relation to my father. “Lucy was adopted by Noah Clark and me. She has absolutely no right to this ten million!” “Zora is our biological daughter. This money should go to her!” Because of my mother’s words, Zora smoothly took away my father’s death compensation. I ended up homeless, with relatives too afraid to take me in, and eventually died miserably. After my death, my mother and sister squandered the money and, using their status as the family of a national hero, shamelessly profited from his name. Fortunately, I’ve been reborn, returning to the day of my father’s death when the billionaire offered the ten million dollars!

2 My ruthless words left Mia and Zora stunned for several seconds. When they finally came to their senses, their faces instantly turned bright red. Mia secretly glanced at the billionaire sitting on the sofa, noticed his displeased expression, and saw the contemptuous looks from the relatives crowding the doorway to watch the drama. She hurriedly tried to defend herself: “Don’t talk nonsense! Zora was Noah’s most beloved daughter. His compensation should go to Zora, otherwise he wouldn’t rest in peace!” Hearing such shameless words, I almost laughed from anger. I took a deep breath, barely suppressing the urge to slap her twice across the face. Instead of wasting my breath on Mia, I turned to the billionaire sitting on the sofa and said, “Sir, my father and Ms. Zhang divorced years ago, and my sister’s custody went to Ms. Taylor. For years now, they’ve been like strangers to our family. My father’s compensation has nothing to do with either of them.” The billionaire seemed surprised that the situation would escalate so badly over money during a family gathering. He frowned, thought for a moment, then said, “This money is meant for Mr. Clark’s family. In that case, I’ll give it to Mr. Clark’s daughter, Lucy.” As he spoke, he pulled a check from his suit pocket, ready to hand it to me. Before I could reach for it, Mia immediately rushed forward, trying to snatch the check. Fortunately, the billionaire’s bodyguard was quick, blocking Mia with one arm. Afraid I might actually get the money, Mia’s eyes darted around before she shouted at the top of her lungs: “You can’t give the money to Lucy! She’s not Noah’s biological daughter!” The moment Mia’s words left her mouth, gasps and murmurs erupted from the crowd, and the billionaire froze. The onlooking relatives began buzzing with gossip. “What? Lucy isn’t Mr. Clark’s real daughter?!” “That can’t be true. Mr. Clark adored Lucy since she was little. How could she not be his daughter?” “Well, Mr. Clark’s ex-wife herself just said it, so it must be true.” … As the gossip spread, Mia noticed everyone starting to doubt, and shot me a smug glance. Zora chimed in to help: “Lucy doesn’t look anything like me, and my mom never liked her. She can’t possibly be his real daughter!” The billionaire looked up at me, then glanced at Zora and Mia, seemingly comparing our appearances. After a long moment, the billionaire finally spoke: “You two sisters indeed look nothing alike!” As soon as the billionaire finished speaking, I heard Mia and Zora chuckle softly. These two thought they had won, but I wasn’t afraid in the slightest. My composure angered Zora. She glared at me fiercely, desperate to get rid of me: “Lucy, you have no business here anymore. Stop blocking me from collecting my father’s money!” I shot her a cold glare and said, “Huh, just because you say I’m not Dad’s daughter, that makes it true? Maybe you’re the one who isn’t his real daughter!” Zora was left speechless by my retort. She was so angry she wanted to lunge at me, but Mia held her back. Mia didn’t take me seriously at all, thinking I could only talk big. So she snorted dismissively: “Lucy, you really aren’t our biological child. You were an abandoned baby Noah took in!”

3 As she spoke, Mia turned to Aunt Eleanor, hoping to get her support. “Aunt Eleanor, you’re a doctor. You know Noah had type B blood and I have type AB. These two blood types can’t produce a child with type O blood, yet Lucy is type O!” Aunt Eleanor looked at me, then at Mia, and nodded. “Well… if Lucy is type O, then she certainly couldn’t be my brother’s biological daughter.” With Aunt Eleanor’s confirmation, the relatives began chattering among themselves. “What a shame. Noah raised this girl all these years, and she’s not even his own.” “Not being his biological daughter is one thing, but trying to take Noah’s compensation money is just too much!” “Exactly! Noah’s compensation should go to Zora, his real daughter!” Despite what everyone was saying, I stood motionless, showing none of the shame they expected to see on my face. Seeing that I wasn’t “thick-skinned” enough to leave, Mia grew anxious. Her eyes suddenly reddened as she began to sob quietly. “Lucy, Noah was kind enough to take you in. We gave you the gift of a home and family. Now that he’s gone, you can’t just claim what rightfully belongs to his biological daughter! How can you be so heartless?” As she spoke, she looked at my father’s memorial photo and threw herself toward it, crying dramatically. Between sobs, she lamented, “Noah, you should never have brought this ungrateful girl home. Now she’s bullying us—your wife and daughter!” Mia’s performance successfully garnered sympathy from everyone present. After all, in everyone’s eyes, Zora, the biological daughter, was clearly more important than me, the adopted one. Everyone believed Zora was the only true Clark bloodline. Aunt Eleanor and the others immediately urged the billionaire to give the money to Zora. Seeing everyone taking her side, Zora became as proud as a peacock displaying its feathers. She quickly changed her previously arrogant demeanor and approached me with fake sincerity. “Sis, Dad is gone now. Please show some mercy and stop causing trouble at his memorial. If you’re really concerned about the money, I can share a little with you. Just let Dad rest in peace!” With mother and daughter playing their parts perfectly, even the billionaire began to waver, ready to give the money to Zora. Just as he was about to speak, I broke my silence. I scanned everyone in the room and challenged Mia: “What good are your words without proof? Do you have any evidence?” She seemed surprised by my composure, disbelief flashing in her eyes, but she quickly recovered. “Lucy, you’re really stubborn! You want evidence? Of course I have it!” Mia walked into my father’s bedroom and retrieved a small metal box from the cabinet, taking out a piece of paper. In front of everyone, she unfolded the paper and announced loudly, “This is Lucy’s adoption certificate. Here’s your proof!” Mia passed the paper around for everyone to see before it finally reached my hands. The yellowed document was indeed the certificate of my adoption by the Clarks, and it confirmed my blood type as O, just as Mia had claimed. Mia stared at me intently, barely containing her excitement. “Lucy, are you satisfied now? I didn’t want things to get this ugly, but you forced my hand! Stop making a scene in front of Noah!” Just when everyone thought I had nothing more to say, I let out a soft laugh and tore the adoption certificate in half.

  • After being reborn, I got married to my ex-boyfriend’s uncle.

My childhood friend Avery Johnson’s uncle, Oscar Hunter, killed himself. Before he died, someone found hundreds of love letters in his drawer—all written to me, none ever sent. So when I got a second chance at life and my mom asked if I wanted to marry Avery, I straight up told her no. I was choosing his uncle Oscar instead. This was my secret—I was living my second life. In my previous life, I married Avery, my childhood sweetheart. But after we tied the knot, he barely came home. Later, when I started bleeding bad during my pregnancy, he ditched me right there because his first love, Stella Locke, called. That snake said, “Avery, power’s out at my place and I’m really scared!” Just like that, my husband left without thinking twice. Eventually, the bleeding killed both my baby and me. After I died, Avery didn’t shed one tear. Just bitched about how my death messed up his vacation plans with his precious Stella… ***** When I opened my eyes again, I was back to the day my mom asked me that question. “Amanda, are you sure about this? You and Avery grew up together. You really want to marry his uncle Oscar instead?” Every time my mom asked, I would just give her the same answer. “Yes, I’m sure.” “Well, if you want him, that’s what matters! Your dad and I will get the ball rolling!” Actually, my mom was more hyped than me. She ran straight to ask Oscar that same day, and after he said yes, she booked an outdoor venue right away. And as expected, Avery called, sounding quite pissed. “Amanda, you’re doing way too much. First you manipulate our parents into this arranged marriage, now you’re sneaking around booking venues? “Girl, have some self-respect! Are you really this thirsty to get hitched? This desperate act is exactly why I can’t be with you!” I bit my lip, took a breath, and explained, “Avery, I’m not marrying you this time. I chose your…” He just cut me off with a nasty laugh. “Playing hard to get now? Should’ve seen through your BS earlier. Just plan all the weddings you want. I love Stella, and she’s the only one I’m marrying. My heart’s hers! You’re just making me sick!” With that, he ended the call, cutting off anything I was about to say. Whatever. He’d figure it out soon enough. Our families had been tight for generations—a real old-school connection that meant everything in our circle. Avery and I literally grew up next door to each other, sharing every moment like those perfect childhood sweethearts you read about. After Christmas that year, our parents set up the marriage—keeping with tradition and all that family arrangement stuff. But in my last life, Avery dropped a bomb, wanting to break off our engagement to marry someone else. I wouldn’t back down, and things got ugly fast. I got my way and married him anyway, but that was just the start of the nightmare. He rarely came home after we tied the knot. And when I finally got pregnant, he straight up moved in with Stella. I could only see his face at some family events. It wasn’t until I was about to pop that his family finally pulled rank and made him come back home. But that first night he was back? We got into a crazy fight that had me bleeding bad. I was scared out of my mind, begging him to get me to a hospital. Then Stella called. And that was all it took—Avery was gone. Me and my unborn baby died right there in that hospital bed. My little one never even got to see daylight. After I died, Avery didn’t even show up to my funeral—just took Stella on vacation like it was nothing. My parents couldn’t handle the pain. They got sick from being so heartbroken and died not long after. Everything my family owned ended up in Avery’s hands, while he and Stella lived their best life with all their kids and grandkids. Last time around, marrying Avery straight up destroyed everything—my family, my life, all of it gone. This time? No way I’m letting that happen again. I gotta protect the people who actually care about me.

After we locked in the venue, my mom kept pushing me to pick out a wedding dress. Oscar Hunter already copped our wedding rings overseas, got some big-name designer on it. And since he was handling business out there and couldn’t come back yet, he sent me a black card to make up for it. Just a few days ago, I ordered the latest wedding dress from Christmas, a high-end designer brand. This morning, the shop called saying it just came in and invited me to try it on. But the second I walked into the bridal shop, I spotted Avery sitting in the waiting area. When he caught me, his face got all tight. “What are you doing here?” I kept it cool. “Trying on my wedding dress.” Maybe I was looking too unbothered. He seemed shocked for a moment before hitting me with that smirk. “Amanda, what’s good? Like the world ran out of men or something? You’re really that desperate to marry me?” I looked at that face I used to know so well, feeling a bitter smile creep up. This wasn’t the same Avery who would carry me through the rain when my stomach was killing me. Ever since Stella showed up, that protective, caring Avery was gone. Thank God I didn’t have to deal with this jerk in this lifetime anymore. I shot him an ice-cold look, then said all calm, “Avery, I already told you—I’m not marrying you. But you’re right about one thing—there’s plenty of other guys out there, and I’m done chasing after you.” Then, I walked straight to those wedding dresses without even looking back at him. But before I could get far, Avery grabbed my wrist hard, coming at me like crazy. “Amanda! What are you trying to pull this time?” I struggled to break free, but his grip was just too strong. I sighed helplessly, “Avery, what’s with all this? I said I won’t marry you and I’m over you now. Isn’t that what you want?” He glared at me with a cold smile. “You picked today to try on dresses and still saying you won’t marry me?” He then looked at the fitting room all lovey-dovey, claiming, “Stella’s my one and only. Give up already! I told my family last night that I’m canceling our engagement. I don’t care if my whole family’s against it, I’m marrying Stella no matter what it takes!” That “what it takes” he was talking about was just dropping everything the Johnsons gave him. He built his own company from scratch, and it was doing okay. But compared to the Johnson family’s empire? That little business was small potatoes. I forced a fake smile and said it smooth, “Well, hope you two are happy together. Don’t stress about it—I’m about to get hitched to someone else anyway, so this engagement thing’s already dead.” I tried to get him to let go, but he just kept staring, holding my wrist. “Amanda, what game are you playing now? Who else could you possibly marry besides me?” My wrist was hurting so bad that I started tearing up. Just then, Stella walked out. She exclaimed in surprise, “Avery, what are you doing?” Avery dropped my hand quickly and ran to Stella, trying to grab hers. When she pulled back, he caught on fast and went all soft. “Alright, let me hit the restroom and clean up first. Just wait for me, babe!” Then Avery rushed out, leaving the two of us there. Stella caught my eye and straight up looked at me like she won something. Well. She didn’t even try to hide how she felt. That’s when I noticed—she was wearing the exact wedding dress I’d put a deposit on. The sales associate rushed out after her, panic in her voice. “Ms. Locke, that dress is already reserved! We got more gorgeous new pieces that just landed this morning, why not check those out?” Stella went off on the girl, all attitude. “My fiancé is the heir of the Johnson family, and he’s tight with your boss! He said I can rock whatever I want—money ain’t a thing! Plus, it’s just reserved, not bought. Why can’t I try it on?” Then she smirked at me. “Right, Amanda? Even a marriage can be called off, let alone a little dress reservation.” The sales associate finally spotted me and almost started crying. “Ms. Brown, I’m so sorry! This dress just dropped this morning, and before I could lock it up, Ms. Locke was already trying it on!” I wasn’t trying to make the girl sweat, plus that dress had already touched somebody else’s body, so I was over it. I shot her a chill smile. “It’s fine. If Ms. Locke wants it so bad, she can have it. Didn’t y’all get that super exclusive piece in this morning? Let me check that out instead.” I tapped that black card in my bag. Since my future husband was so eager for me to spend his money, I might as well do him this one favor. Avery walked out right when I said that. He rolled his eyes hard. “Amanda, can you stop embarrassing yourself? I told you I’m marrying Stella, not you. Why are you still doing this? And you even know how much that piece costs? Ten million! How could you possibly afford it?” I smiled, pulled out that black card and passed it to the associate. “No need to try it on. I’ll just take it!” Then, I bounced out, leaving Avery looking shook and Stella mad salty.

That evening, I had a video call with Oscar. It was my first time “talking” face-to-face with him since my rebirth, and I felt somewhat nervous. Finally, we agreed to get our marriage papers the morning he came back. Though we were about to be husband and wife, it was kinda funny since we barely knew each other. Not even five minutes after the video call, Avery hit me up all accusatory. “Amanda, where’d you get the money for that crazy expensive dress? You better not be doing something shady behind my back. “You were trying to get at Stella at that shop today, weren’t you? Didn’t I tell you to leave my fiancée alone? You’ve been doing all this wedding stuff just to make me marry you, huh? Let me make this clear—I will never do it!” I was feeling quite good after talking to Oscar, but Avery just messed it up. I was so done with him so I snapped, “Avery, I’m only gonna say this one more time—you are not the one I’m marrying!” He was straight up driving me crazy, but no matter what I said, he wouldn’t get it through his head. That night, Avery posted on Facebook: “Getting my marriage certificate with my first and forever love on the 18th! All friends are welcome to come see us make it official!” Good for them, I guessed. As fate would have it, Oscar and I were planning to get our papers done that same day. The following days, Avery was so busy taking wedding photos with Stella that he finally stopped bugging me. On the 18th, I pulled up to the city hall rocking that million-dollar wedding dress, waiting for Oscar outside. Just thinking about how his jaw was gonna drop when he saw me had me smiling to myself. I waited in the car till I saw Avery and Stella go inside first. No way I was letting anyone mess up my big day. But drama found me anyway. “Amanda? That you?” Some guy who came in after me called out, making Avery’s crew in line look back. “God, Avery’s getting married and you’re showing up looking like this? You really out here being the most loyal simp, pulling up to the city hall in a whole wedding dress!” Avery burst in to check out the commotion. The second he spotted me, his face twisted up and he went off. “Amanda? What the hell are you doing here? Dressed like that? How thirsty can you be? Think this little stunt’s gonna make me put a ring on it? “Save yourself the trouble! I won’t marry you. Stella’s the one!” He pulled Stella tight against him, giving me a smug look. I was dead silent but kinda laughing inside. I got real serious. “I told you, I’m not marrying you! I’m dressed up but not for you! My man is gonna be here any minute, so please stay away from me!” His crew started dying laughing, clowning me for doing the most to marry Avery, saying I took being thirsty to another level. “Amanda, we’re tired of you playing hard to get! Stop dreaming—Avery’s about to get his papers with Stella! “If you’re that desperate to get married, just pick one of us. For real, I wouldn’t mind taking Avery’s crazy fans for once!” Avery sneered, “Come on, you guys are really interested in such a boring, annoying woman? Forget it, whoever can get her, she’s yours. I wouldn’t take her even if she were begging!” His trash talk pushed me over the edge. I swung to slap him, but he caught my wrist mid-air. I shot daggers at him and growled, “Get it through your thick skull, Avery! I told you, I’m not here to marry you! And I never wanted to marry your sorry ass in the first place!” Instead of getting mad, he let out a nasty laugh. “Yeah, right, Amanda. Who are you trying to fool? You’ve been stalking me since we were in kindergarten. “Been all up on me for years, even tried to force me to wife you. Now you’re acting like you’re over me? Impressive. So, where’s this guy you’re all dressed up for? Funny how he’s keeping you waiting.” I yanked my hand away, my face hot with anger. His words cut deep, and my eyes started to water. Then, a deep voice boomed from behind me. “Back the hell off, Avery!”

  • After my boyfriend regained his memory

Maxwell Brown’s company went bankrupt, and unfortunately, he lost his memory in a car accident. For five whole years, I was the only one who took care of him wholeheartedly. The first thing he did after regaining his memory was to ask me to prepare a venue—he wanted to propose to his fiancée, Natalie Locke. I thought this was just an act he was putting on to comfort his depressed fiancée. Until I arrived at the venue early and overheard his conversation with his brother. “Actually, Natalie doesn’t have depression; she lied to you. And when she found out about your accident, she ran far away. Only Hazel Foster was willing to take care of you. So, do you really want to propose to Natalie?” Maxwell’s words had a hidden meaning: “Of course I know. Precisely because Natalie lied to me, she’ll have to face me cautiously from now on.” “That’s much more comfortable than not being able to hold my head up in front of Hazel out of gratitude.” “Hazel has already helped me secure funding; she has no other use now. Once my company goes public, I’ll tell her the truth.” I neither cried nor made a scene. I quietly called the arranged marriage candidate who had pursued me for five years and even helped me prepare the proposal venue. “The venue is ready, but the person isn’t coming. Who am I supposed to accept a proposal from?” 1 Maxwell’s engagement ceremony was about to begin. He had invited all his family, friends, and brothers, but my name wasn’t on the guest list. The banquet was lively, with his brothers congratulating him one after another. Just then, I walked into the hall. In an instant, the atmosphere turned ice-cold, and everyone’s face showed embarrassment. Maxwell walked up to me, frowning, and said, “Didn’t I tell you not to come?” At that moment, his little fiancée Natalie was nestled in his arms, shrinking back in fear. Natalie’s fingers trembled as she looked at me with terror, then said in her fragile voice, “Hazel, are you here to give us your blessing?” Blessing? I couldn’t help but laugh coldly and asked, “Blessing? Do you think I would bless you two?” Hearing this, Natalie’s face turned deathly pale. Seeing my hostile tone, Maxwell immediately stood protectively in front of Natalie and said, “Hazel, let’s talk properly, don’t be so masculine energy feminine energy with that attitude!” Then, he lowered his voice to a volume only the two of us could hear: “I never realized how petty you were before. Did you have to come and ruin things today? I already told you, Natalie has depression, and this is just a fake proposal!” Maxwell now looked like a righteous knight protecting his damsel, and those uninformed guests thought I was the third party trying to destroy their relationship. Some guests couldn’t help but shout at me: “Miss, are you new to Manchester? Everyone in Manchester knows that the young Mr. Brown and Miss Locke are childhood sweethearts with an engagement since they were young. How dare you, a homewrecker, come so brazenly to crash their engagement?” “Exactly, homewreckers are so bold these days.” “The absolute shamelessness of this woman! Why hasn’t anyone thrown her out yet!” Everyone started attacking me fiercely, one after another. Natalie seized her moment to put on a dramatic performance. Her eyes reddened with tears welling up, looking pitiful as she said, “Hazel, I know you’ve done Maxwell a great favor, but Maxwell and I have been engaged for so many years—surely there’s something to be said for who came first? All these years, I couldn’t be by Maxwell’s side during his most difficult times, and I’ve felt so guilty that I developed depression. Look.” She lifted her dress to reveal dense scars on her wrist. “These are the punishments I gave myself. So Hazel, please don’t take him away from me, okay? He’s all I have in my life. Without him, I really can’t go on living.” What a masterful play of emotional blackmail! When I was still in the dark, I had felt sympathy too. One evening a week ago, Maxwell came to me and asked me to prepare a proposal venue. He said, “Hazel, Natalie has developed severe depression because of me. Her parents even got on their knees and begged me to fulfill Natalie’s wish to marry me. I’m just putting on a show, so don’t come that day.” I nodded, showing understanding. After all, Natalie was Maxwell’s legitimate fiancée. If Maxwell hadn’t had his accident years ago, they might have been married already. Now Maxwell was doing this to save someone’s life; he had no other choice. So I helped him contact Aman Hotel and booked the most luxurious banquet hall for a grand proposal ceremony for Natalie. I thought I was just helping to make up for Natalie’s regrets, and afterward, they could part ways amicably. Unexpectedly, on the day of the proposal, the venue manager said the person who booked the venue needed to sign some documents in person. Afraid of delaying Maxwell’s plans, I rushed to the hotel early in the morning. After signing the documents, I wanted to open the door to the banquet hall to see the proposal venue I had planned myself. After all, the man I loved was about to propose to another woman, even if it was fake, and I couldn’t help feeling a bit uncomfortable. As I gently pushed open the door, I discovered Maxwell inside. What I heard next shattered my illusions completely. I overheard his conversation with his brother, and that’s when I learned the whole truth. All these years, I had just been deluding myself. Thinking of this, I sneered at Natalie and Maxwell, saying, “Excuse me, who told you that today is Maxwell and Natalie’s proposal ceremony?”

“Hazel, are you not going to stop until you drive Natalie to her death?” “She’s already harming herself. Can’t you just grant her this wish? Do you have to push her to the edge?” Maxwell’s brothers couldn’t stand by any longer and stood up one by one to shield Natalie. “Yeah, Hazel, isn’t today Maxwell and Natalie’s engagement ceremony, not yours?” “Hazel, you may be wealthy, but Maxwell doesn’t love you. Just give it up already. Even if you make a scene here, Maxwell won’t propose to you.” As I listened to their back-and-forth remarks and watched their righteous indignation, a wave of bitterness welled up inside me. After all, the man I had so deeply loved for all these years hadn’t uttered a single word in my defense. Five years ago, when the Brown family was at its peak, they fell victim to a carefully planned car accident orchestrated by their enemies. Maxwell’s parents died in that accident, and Maxwell himself was severely injured, remaining comatose after the head trauma. Almost overnight, various influential families scrambled to divide up the Brown family’s assets. I pulled every string I could to save just one small company under the Brown family name for him. During his recovery, I stayed by his side constantly, paid all his medical bills, and settled many of his debts until he finally regained consciousness. He had forgotten everyone, including the fact that he had a fiancée—one who had abandoned him as soon as disaster struck. Only I remained loyal, staying by his side without asking for anything in return. Maxwell cried and told me that even though he had lost everything, he would treat me well for the rest of his life. I held his hand tightly and comforted him: “I’ll do everything in my power to help you rise again.” I kept my promise. I handed over the small company to him, helped him secure a round of financing, and accompanied him step by step as he reestablished his position in Manchester’s high society. But he callously broke his vow. He betrayed me without even offering an explanation. As I looked at this man before me, his silence became the final straw that broke me. “Natalie, I rented this venue, so how did it become your engagement ceremony? This is obviously my engagement ceremony.” Natalie clearly hadn’t expected me to publicly embarrass her, and her expression turned extremely unpleasant. “Hazel, no matter how much you pressure Maxwell, he’ll only follow his heart! Just let him go!” “Hazel, don’t think that having some money means you can force Maxwell to propose to you!” I let out a cold laugh and retorted, “Who are you to say such things? When he needed money, which one of you helped him? Was it you, or you?” I pointed at those present, who all awkwardly averted their gaze. They stubbornly continued, “You’ve been waiting for this day, haven’t you? You deliberately gave him money just to emotionally blackmail Maxwell into marrying you!” “Enough! Hazel, stop making a scene,” Maxwell interrupted with fury written all over his face. “I’m grateful for your help these past years, and I’ll pay back every penny you lent me. But today is my engagement party with Natalie. Can’t you show some compassion? She’s suffering from severe depression, and you choose today to cause trouble? I would never marry someone as heartless as you!” Everyone applauded. “Well said, Maxwell has backbone!” “Exactly! She came here to force Maxwell to marry her, and now she’s been put in her place!” Looking at Maxwell’s expression, I felt too disgusted to speak. Natalie’s lips curled into a subtle smile. She pretended to be considerate and said, “Oh, everyone, please stop arguing. Since Hazel is already here, let’s arrange a seat for her so she can witness the love between Maxwell and me.” She reached out to take my hand, but I immediately shook her off. She put on a theatrical display of fragility, crying out “Ah!” as she fell to the ground, looking utterly pitiful. I looked down at her, my eyes burning with contempt. “You’re right, someone is going to propose to me today, but it’s not this ungrateful Maxwell. Please clean this place up quickly and get out. My fiancé is already on his way, and I don’t want him to see trash like you.”

“Who the hell are you calling garbage?!” Maxwell’s brother jumped to his feet, glaring at me viciously. “Hazel, you’re going too far!” “Hazel, I only respected you because you seemed to treat Maxwell well. Do you think you’re so important that all of Manchester has to listen to you?! Don’t forget the Stone family ranks above your Foster family. You know Vincent, right? He’s my distant cousin. Want me to call him to put you in your place?” I laughed scornfully. “Really? I couldn’t care less about Vincent Stone. He probably wouldn’t even want to acknowledge a little punk like you.” “You—!” Maxwell cut him off. Then, looking somewhat exhausted, he unbuttoned his collar and rubbed his forehead. “Hazel, stop making trouble. What’s the point of making up this fiancé nonsense?” “Exactly, Ms. Foster. Everyone knows you’re head over heels for Maxwell. Who are you trying to fool with this angry talk?” Just then, my phone rang. I answered, and a man’s soft chuckle came through. “Honestly, I was quite flattered when you suddenly agreed. Though I know you don’t love me, I’m quite happy to be used as your weapon. How are things going over there? Need any help?” I said with complete indifference, “I’m not done here yet. I’ll have security kick them out in a minute. You just focus on driving safely.” After hanging up, Maxwell demanded, “Who were you talking to?” His expression was impatient, yet somehow anxious. I raised an eyebrow and mocked, “My fiancé, of course. Today is the day he proposed to me, and he rented this venue. You’re all trespassing, and security will be here soon to escort you out.” Natalie tried to reason with me. “Hazel, there’s no need for such spiteful words. I won’t force you to congratulate us. But today is Maxwell’s and my special day. Look what you’ve done.” The guests turned toward us, giving me disapproving looks. “The nerve of this homewrecker. It’s outrageous.” “Using her power to force others to stop a proposal ceremony. Why should we listen to you and just leave?” “Exactly! We only listen to today’s couple! Let’s ignore this crazy woman and help throw her out!” Soon, several burly men stood up and approached me. I knew self-defense and wasn’t easy to intimidate. I quickly took down two of them. But more and more people surrounded me, and I couldn’t handle them all alone. Then I caught Maxwell looking at me with pity. “Stop resisting, Hazel. Leave quietly, and I’ll make sure they don’t hurt you.” Furious, I shouted, “Maxwell, you bastard! Go to hell!” Maxwell’s friends yelled, “If you won’t take the easy way out, we’ll beat some sense into you!” Just as fists were about to land on me and I closed my eyes in desperation, the door suddenly burst open. Immediately, security guards flooded in. “Nobody move!” A commanding shout stopped everyone in their tracks. “I’m the manager of this hotel. Who dares cause trouble here?!”
