Too Late

I took my boyfriend’s phone by mistake, only to see a message from his ex, “I didn’t take the pill that night.” It was only a sentence, but enough to make me shiver. The night before yesterday, I had an acute gastroenteritis attack, and he worked overtime at the company. I called him several times, but the call never got through. Enduring the excruciating pain, I took a taxi to the hospital alone at three o’clock in the morning.
